Twitch is revolutionizing DJ live streaming with the introduction of its new DJ Program, which allows DJs to stream popular music under a new DJ Category. This initiative is the result of a groundbreaking partnership with major labels like Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music, alongside numerous independent labels represented by Merlin.
This program offers a safe and sustainable platform for DJs, who have seen significant growth on Twitch since early 2020. It addresses historical challenges by ensuring musicians are compensated when DJs use their pre-recorded music. Revenue generated from DJ streams will be shared with musicians, with Twitch covering a significant portion of these costs initially.
DJs will need to opt-in to the program and may consider creating a separate channel for DJ content. To ease the transition, Twitch will provide a one-year subsidy to cover the revenue share adjustment. The DJ Category will launch later this summer, and Twitch encourages DJs to review the program details to understand its impact.
