The Final MELT Festival: Bidding Farewell to an Era

Share

MELT Festival will open its gates for the last time from July 11 to 13, 2024.

After more than two decades of music, culture, and unforgettable moments, this year marks the final chapter of an extraordinary festival story.

The organizers of the MELT Festival cite insurmountable changes in the festival landscape as the reason for ending this longstanding event, stating that these changes no longer align with the core values of the festival.

“Despite our commitment and efforts in recent years, we recognize that the original MELT is no longer current and cannot withstand the developments of recent years without radically altering the festival concept. It is a difficult decision, but we believe it is time to explore new paths and create space for fresh ideas,”

Explains Florian Czok, Director of MELT Festival.

MELT Festival was first held in 1997 and found its home in Ferropolis, Gräfenhainichen, in 1999. Since then, the festival has been a staple of the German music scene, evolving into a cultural beacon known far beyond Germany’s borders, drawing an international audience annually. The festival has also won numerous international awards, including “Best Festival,” “Artist’s Favourite European Festival,” and “Green ‘N’ Clean Festival Of The Year.”

Several surprises are planned for the farewell of MELT Festival, designed to reflect on its history and captivate fans one last time. These will be announced in the coming days and weeks. The final edition of the festival will feature over 120 artists, including Sampha, James Blake, Sugababes, DJ Koze, Romy, Marlon Hoffstadt, Overmono, and many more.

“We sincerely thank all the visitors, artists, partners, media, and everyone in front of, on, and behind the stages for the many incredible and unique moments we have shared with them. We hope they continue to be open to new experiences,”

The organizers express in their message to longtime fans and participants.

Although MELT Festival is coming to an end, the team is already working on new concepts, which will not bear the same name nor take place in Ferropolis.
