DT897 – Tommy Bones

Share

Born and raised in Connecticut, one hour outside of Manhattan, Tommy Bones fixation on House Music and dancing would pull him to the heady lights of New York in the early ‘90s.

This week, the house music veteran is back on the Data Transmission Podcast, bringing his signature blend of deep and driving house. We’re also spotlighting his latest release, ‘Shouldna / Dub Style’, on Louie Vega’s Vega Records, a stellar double AA showcasing his timeless sound.

The New York native delivers with ‘Shouldna’, a stripped-back warehouse groove packed with eerie vocal snippets and twitchy synth details, creating an all-encompassing, hypnotic vibe. On the flip side, ‘Dub Style’ leans into Detroit-style chords and dubbed-out drums for a soulful yet driving track that’s pure class.

With over three decades in the game, Tommy continues to push boundaries, whether on his House of Bones imprint or with fresh releases like this. ‘Shouldna / Dub Style’ is out now digitally and on vinyl via Vega Records.

Listen to Tommy Bones’s exclusive mix on the Data Transmission Podcast, available now on Mixcloud or iTunes here.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Solid dance floor tracks with some curve balls.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
All the tracks in there. Really enjoyed all the styles in the mix.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
It’s rooted and understandable. Just solid dance music.

Tell us about your next EP?
Two tracks in this mix (Shouldna, Dubstyle) are from the new Vega Records various artist 5 Vinyl pack which is in stores now. Also played is one from my new alias TB-203 feat. Danny P called Movin’ on Seth Troxler’s new label Slacker 85.

What have you got coming up?
There are so many, I have more House of Bones EP’s on the way and some new music in other labels hands waiting for release dates. I’m really loving the music I’m making right now, so I can’t wait for you to hear it.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Just play and create from the heart. Don’t follow trends and be patient. Good art takes time to perfect. True music is the real influence and… It’s ALL about the music!

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
