Reputation vs Regulation

[M]ost regulation is useless. It's the need to maintain one's reputation that does most to keep us safe — especially today, with instant feedback from the Internet. No clumsy government regulation is needed.

In his weekly syndicated column, John Stossel discusses Eatwith.com, a site that takes the concept of dinner parties to a new level, and the desire of government to involve itself in every aspect of our lives, frequently under the guise of keeping us safe. As is mostly the case, the threat of a tarnished reputation and lost business will almost always do far more to keep us safe than any set of rules the government says we must operate under.
