This time the beats come from Queer On Acid out of Latvia, who has previously released on the likes of Ovum, Kneaded Pains, Takeout, and their own eponymous imprint. Hailing from the Latvian capital city of Riga, electronic brothers in arms Queer On Acid have been fervent dance music devotees since the 1990s. Born out of the LGBTQ community of which they belong to, the duo has had an impressive ascendency over the last couple of years that has included releases for Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings, Shadow Child’s Takeout imprint, collaborating with original house vocalist & artist Robert Owens, and maintaining their burgeoning Queer On Acid record label.

The ‘Short Cut’ EP is the latest fruits of their labour, released on Dense & Pika’s ever consistent Kneaded Pains label. Lead track ‘Bob’ cuts up some gnarly lead lines with an ardent rhythm and drifting atmospherics, whilst ‘C Ex’ jacks out some crunchy funk over an industrious 909 beat as waves of elated pads wash in an old school flavour. A hypnotising percussive house rhythm, not too dissimilar to the classic ‘House Of God’ by DHS, build the foundations of ‘Not The Time’, as a raw Chi-town groove is shaped and pulverized with a seductive vocal loop.

We premiere ‘Not the time’ on our NUDE Techno channels, check it out here and grab it here.

Queer on Acid are two old friends and partners from Riga who discovered house music back in the 1990s. After many years in the music they decided to form a project and record label with a hooligan title – ‘Queer on Acid’, which is about the queer culture and the electronic music to which they belong.

As electronic music fans, DJs and party animals, guys met, obviously, in an underground club in Riga almost 20 years ago. One day they were fooling around and made two tracks that reminded them of the big warehouse parties they used to rave at – “Bed Drama” and “Rusty Nails”. So, Queer on Acid was born.

Their debut “Bed Drama” EP in the summer of 2019 has got attention from big guns of the scene such as Shadow Child, Ramon Tapia, Mat.Joe, Huxley, Billy Kenny, Will Clarke to mention a few. The next single “Lilly’s Boobs” came a month later, and then guys also remixed Walker & Royce’s smash “Fetish” for Amber Muse which was heavily supported by Shadow Child in his Rinse FM radio show.

Now, Queer On Acid builds a connection with Shadow Child and Kry Wolf’s new imprint Takeout (Food Music sister label) with two releases signed for release. The first, which came out on vinyl in November of 2020, was the double A-Side EP recorded with the legendary house music vocalist, songwriter and DJ Robert Owens. It also has got remixed by Polymod, MASC and Fear-E. The next “Give Ya Luv” EP with new original tracks dropped on Takeout in September 2021.

In the summer 2021 the duo made a four-tracker EP for the legendary Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings under their names Queer On Acid and Taran & Lomov. Guys also signed another “Short Cut” EP to Kneaded Pains which will close their release schedule in 2021.

Today, they join us on the podcast for the first time. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Club ready, energy fuelled, acid-tinged portion of dance tracks.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
We put all our love into all the mixes we do, so there are all favourites, both new and older ones. But if we choose a particular track, this could be M.Luc’s “I Vogue” released on Purveyor Underground. A ballroom vogue extravaganza mover!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
It’s all about the groove.

Tell us about your next EP?
We love to rave and dance, so all three tracks on the “Short Cut” EP that’s coming out on Kneaded Pains on Dec 3 – and we’re excited about this – are designed to make everyone move their booty’s everywhere! Tracks have a different vibe, for any part of the night. We deliver percussive rhythms, elated pads, raw Chi-town styled grooves and vocal loops.

What have you got coming up?
We constantly work on new productions and have just finished two new EP’s – one more on house type, another more towards techno. These don’t have a home yet.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Be yourself and spread love!

Queer On Acid build on a big release on Ovum with a thrilling new EP for the Takeout Records label.

Queer on Acid is a production, party and DJ outfit from Riga, Latvia. They are focussed on raves, queer culture and acid while making peak time tunes for dark and sweaty club spaces. They have their own label and have had high-profile support from Laurent Garnier, DJ Bone & Chris Liebing. After outings on Ovum and Amber Muse they are now back on Takeout with more essential sounds.

There is a heavyweight dub feeling to the lo-fi, gritty house of ‘Giv Ya Luv.’ It’s detailed with frosty synth stabs, soulful female vocals and darker words from a male voice that is lost in the mix. After that is the powerful ‘Motto’ with big, swinging drums and shadowy bass. Rave sirens rise up and down the scale, prickly acid twitches pepper the groove and coarse claps add further texture to this classy banger. Completing the EP is ‘Layer 1,’ a bubbly warehouse cut with big sound design, infectious, syncopated claps and tripped out chords that bring the futuristic soul.

This excellent EP is further proof that Queer on Acid has a uniquely characterful sound. We premiere ‘Giv Ya Luv’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it here.

“As electronic music fans, DJs and party animals, we met, obviously, in an underground club in Riga almost 20 years ago. One day we were fooling around and made those two tracks that reminded us of big warehouse parties we used to rave. Then we’ve suggested why not to make another project and label out of this with a funny name? So, Queer on Acid was born!” fellas say. “We run another record label Amber Muse, but as soon as the new stuff is quite different from what we put out there, we wanted not to stir everything together and not to influence the natural course of events.”

“We don’t take it all too serious as you can see from the name of the project. Dance music was born in LGBT communities, and it’s always been about unity and a lot of fun, so you can take it as a manifesto to LGBTQ freedom too, with a nod to dance music roots. We also thought that we want to travel more and to meet new people. The music is the best way to make new connections and friends, isn’t it?” they continue.

The first Queer on Acid “Drama” EP contains two warehouse ready cuts: “Bed Drama” and “Rusty Nails”. We premiere ‘Bed Drama’ for you today, and you can grab the EP from Here.
