Dance Spirit – Future Romance EP

Some of the most spirit-friendly sonic excursions and insidiously lethal grooves around right now are to be found on Mr C’s Superfreq imprint, following the Indigo Kids with this superlative outing from the mysterious Dance Spirits.

Having previously released material on Supernature and Maison D’Etre, Dance Spirit’s experiments with sampling and melodic layers echo deep house outings of the early 90s, but tracks such as the heady title cut, old school-voiced ‘Shake It’ and mesmerisingly strange ‘Time Seclusion’ mate whispery old school Chicago vocals and dangerous bass tactics to produce a bottomless hypno-resonance all their own. The closing  ‘Voices In My Head’ goes furthest out with shadowy undergrowth, eerie melodic shards and subterranean rodent stiffies over its pulsing depth charge bass groove.

The set trailers an album to come on Superfreq in the new year. On this evidence, it’s going to be a beauty

A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
