Portsmouth-born duo Acid Cats make their debut on Superfreq with their electrifying ‘Descending Into Chaos’ EP, a long-awaited 3-track offering that pushes the boundaries of Acid and Deep Tech.

Leading the charge is the title track, ‘Descending Into Chaos’, an explosive number that kicks off with flanged hats before diving into pounding beats, intense 303 acid lines, and a rolling bassline that will have dancefloors in a frenzy. This is a track that lives up to its name—raw, chaotic energy expertly crafted for peak-time sets.

Next up is the cleverly titled ‘Secret Virus Spreader’, which doesn’t hold back. With unrelenting beats, a hypnotic bassline, warped 303s, and eerie chord stabs, it’s a Deep Tech Acid gem packed with trippy synths that will leave listeners craving more.

Rounding off the EP is ‘Is This Detroit’, a haunting homage to techno’s spiritual home. Deep, trippy 303 lines weave seamlessly with eerie pads to create an atmospheric journey through the darker side of Acid.

The ‘Descending Into Chaos’ EP showcases why Superfreq continues to stand at the forefront of modern Acid House and Deep Tech. With its cutting-edge sound and relentless energy, this release firmly cements Acid Cats as an act to watch.

We premiere ‘ Descending Into Chaos’ on Data Transmission, check it out here!

Label boss David Scuba & Label manager Lubelski join forces for their first Superfreq release together for the perfect way to kick off their 2021 release schedule.

Having his early clubbing experiences start at the legendary confines of New York’s Twilo during the 1990s, a key experience which laid the template for David Scuba artistically. Having garnered a serious reputation as one of California’s key players of things dark and underground David brings decades of experience to every contribution he has made in the scene. As co-owner of the Superfreq brand with the legendary Mr.C, they have brought their ethos for the underground with doing label showcases, events and of course releasing many chart-topping, stand out tracks. Since its inception, the label has continually released cutting edge modern dance music designed for the dancefloor and David is key as the A+R, discovering new talent.

Part electrical engineer, part multi-instrumentalist psychonaut, Jake Lubell aka Lubelski has synthesized a knack for wild, eclectic beats into a flagship for the next-generation of analogue obsessed producers. Through a decade of dedication to self-taught musical exploration and a keen understanding of late nights on the dancefloor, this talent on the verge has emerged as one of North America’s most promising forces.

First up is title track & our premiere ‘Broke’. Solid shuffling beats hold a strong bassline, laser beam synths, electronic percussive noises & vocal samples for this absolute Dance Floor banger.

Horatio then comes in for remix duties taking Broke into a completely different direction. Last up comes ‘Mumbles’. A cheeky vocal sits atop a solid funky tech groove, throbbing bass tones & tripped out synths.

Check out ‘Broke’ on Data Transmission and grab the whole EP on Beatport.

Superfreq boss, UK legend Mr.C is a veteran of the tech-house scene, (real name Richard West) has repped some of the scene’s biggest labels, with Wagon Repair, Get Physical, Poker Flat among those he’s repped over the years.

Now based in LA, The one-time Shamen frontman has embarked on a rich vein of form of late with new podcast platform, Superfreq releases, live streams and more. He’s been outspoken around BIG topics such as rape within the scene.

He started MCing in London clubs aged 16 & soon earned a reputation as a fast-talking vivacious rapper working with LWR radio’s Ron Tom, Jasper the Vinyl Junkie & Jazzy M. Mr.C then hooked up with Colin Faver & Evil Eddie Richards to became resident rapper at the legendary Camden Palace in London, going on to MC for Colin Faver on the then illegal pirate radio station Kiss FM. Mr.C went into the studio to record his 1st house track with Eddie Richards as Myster-E which was released in August 1987.

I was very lucky to chat to Mr.C about music, labels, streaming, demos and promoting. He also gave me his 5 things producers need to know and we also chatted about the death of Erick Morillo, rape prevention and the scene as a whole.

EPIZODE5: EPILOGUE celebrates it’s 5th Anniversary and have revealed the second round of lineup, including Jamie Jones, [A:RPIA:R], Apollonia, Nastia, Sonja Moonear, Archie Hamilton and MR.C + many more. More info about the Festival here.

Eugene Black is none other than legendary UK house pioneer Paul Rip who, along with Mr C, Eddie Richards and Colin Faver, ran the infamous RIP parties at Clink Street which ignited acid house in this country in 1988. He also co-founded the renowned Plink Plonk label with Mr C, recording as Krypto, Underground Science and Somnambulist before taking off to travel the world.

That he’s back on his old friend’s current label is truly most exciting news, compounded by his new project influenced by FW Murnau’s 1922 horror milestone Nosferatu while fitting in effortlessly to the Superfreq manifesto of flying the acid house flag loud and proud.

Lead track ‘Transylvanian Slap’ whips up a Detroit-tinged robo-riff pebble-dashed with acid squelch action,  female exhalations, ghostly Trax strings and subtle sonic trickery, delivered as only a connoisseur of the genre could.

Paul supplies four versions of ‘Incubus’, putting the original’s spooked acid kek-detonation through the Slippery Tung version’s electro and Blubber Rub treatment’s slo-mo vamp before the avant dubscape of his Snake In The Grass Mix closes the EP with spectral jungle creepers and weightless space-funk floatation.

East LA Tek is a new project launched by Superfreq boss Mr C and Detroit-born DJ-producer Noel Jackson of Hypertone renown. As with other recent darkly glistening outings on the label, the mission is a beautiful celebration of old school acid house sensibility and analogue technology.

The four tracks lead off with the lowdown, sinister rectal blowtorch of ‘Back Alley’, awash in croaking bass resonance, eerie string riffs and snarling acid over an undergrowth of pure malevolence, accentuated by demented cackles.        ‘Addictive Box’ rides percolating, string slashed percussion bolstered with robo-pants twongs before ‘She’s An Eleven’ careers along on bareback techno. The track’s subtle deployment of old school 808 percussion is another example of how deep and sparking this pair’s telepathic spontaneous combustion delves as muted metallic riffs rise like malevolent pond gas. ‘Come Again’ winds down proceedings with some stark, metallic ghetto funk and synthesised early 80s locomotive breath lashed with acid.

Fierce, uncompromising and capable of major damage, it bodes well for further adventures from this magnificent pair of sonic degenerates.

Mr C super label/club show Superfreq returns to Fabric on Saturday 18th January, they will venture back to the Farringdon hub once again to take on the task of curating Room One. Joining Mr C are house veteran Josh Wink and the sounds of David Scuba and label partner Luke vB.

Room Two will boast performances from three pivotal figures in the scene. Stacey Pullen’s pioneering take on Detroit-rooted techno will bring a special dynamic to the second space alongside the tech-house trimmings of Tsuba cohort Jordan Peak and resident Terry Francis will once again drive the party to searing degrees.

It wouldn’t be a usual Saturday night revelry without our main man Craig Richards and the man himself will migrate to our formidable third space to captain the selections all night long.

Mr C’s, Superfreq will be coming together with Olmeto / Shake it to do a very special party as “The End” in a wicked warehouse space in Hackney on Saturday 7th December 2013.  The party will be The End presents Superfreq featuring The End Sound System

For those not aware, The End Sound System is Layo, Bushwacka & Mr C all playing together as a tag team, which they made famous touring in the late 90’s, resulting in the End Sound System XL records double CD release.

This will be the first time all 3 of them have come together to throw a party & play together since they all closed The End in January 2009 and this party will also be the final Layo & Bushwacka appearance ever, due to Layo going into retirement as a DJ to explore other fantastic ventures.  This also falls on The End’s 18th anniversary, so what better date to throw this extremely special event.

Ticket information will appear shortly so keep them peeled!

Having previously released material on Supernature and Maison D’Etre, Dance Spirit’s experiments with sampling and melodic layers echo deep house outings of the early 90s, but tracks such as the heady title cut, old school-voiced ‘Shake It’ and mesmerisingly strange ‘Time Seclusion’ mate whispery old school Chicago vocals and dangerous bass tactics to produce a bottomless hypno-resonance all their own. The closing ‘Voices In My Head’ goes furthest out with shadowy undergrowth, eerie melodic shards and subterranean rodent stiffies over its pulsing depth charge bass groove.
