Detlef’s smash hit ‘Swagon’ receives a fresh remix treatment on Repopulate Mars, the amped-up remixes come courtesy of Ralf and Detlef himself to close on 31st May.

Detlef is a bona fide house mainstay with credits on many of the scene’s most revered labels, from Knee Deep In Sound to Defected. With previous key residencies at Jamie Jones’ Paradise nights at DC-10, millions of Spotify streams and countless digital chart toppers to his name, he has long been a name at the vanguard of the house adjacent scenes.

His 2017 ‘Swagon’ single ft. Ossey James represented an early career highlight for the Greek producer, becoming an instant classic when it was first released, topping charts and making its way into influential DJ bags all over the world. Now, it gets updated by Sacramento-based producer and Repopulate Mars favourite Ralf, backed by a fresh ‘24 version from Detlef himself.

Ralf’s remix of ‘Swagon’ pumps the rubbery drums and layers in busy toms and hits that duck and dive beneath the anthemic vocal line before the mind-melting breakdown, which will undoubtedly have dancefloors in raptures all over again.

Detlef ft. Ossey James ‘Swagon (Remixes)’ drops via Repopulate Mars on May 31st 2024, We premiere Detlef’s 24 edit on Data Transmission, check it out below and grab it on Beatport.

Detlef joins us on the Data Transmission stage at Hidden Festival (check out the full line-up here) on Saturday 29th June alongside Low Steppa, George Smeddles, Josh Butler, Late Replies, Loz Seka, Samuel Morgan, MiddleGround, Cizzla, Crib & Kez and our Data Transmission Remix Competition Winner CHANNE for all the information check out the Hidden Festival announcement and Get Tickets From Skiddle!

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
I would say its a groovy, funky and fun podcast with lots of unreleased music from my labels Issues and Reissues.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
There are so many which I like in this mix but I would say its from joshE – Let’s Go.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I would definitely say the funky flavor as I really love funk grooves.

Tell us about your next EP?
My next release is Calle MoFo and it’s coming out at the end of April to Darius Syrossian Moxy Music. Pretty excited for this one as it’s a proper party track.

What have you got coming up?
I also have a remix for Brisotti coming out on Moan, a release on COCO, a colab with my friend JhoJho on Elrow, new Swagon remixes on Repopulate Mars and 2 colabs coming up later this year, one with Lee Foss and one with Green Velvet.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Thank you guys for reading this and listening to my mix. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did while making it.

Moon Harbour regular Detlef is back on the label with two more of his firing club weapons.

By any measure, Detlef is one of house music’s main men. He has released on all of the scene’s most contemporary labels from this one to Relief to Repopulate Mars. He has over 18 million streams on Spotify and has topped the Beatport charts several times, all while laying down serious sets at the world’s best clubs. These two latest cuts for Moon Harbour offer different vibes for two different moments in the party.

Up first is the smartly executed ‘Backflash’, a turbocharged tech house cut with chunky drums beneath explosive vocal samples and funky riffs. It’s a track that combines physical drive and emotional release and is a playful party starter that cannot fail to make its mark. Then comes ‘OffGrid’ which is a more heads-down dancer with razor-sharp drum programming. It’s kinetic and punchy, with whirring synths up top and trippy little melodic details that take you late into the night next to the freaky vocals.

Detlef has served up more of his floor-filling house gold here.

We premiere ‘Backflash’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it on Bandcamp & Beatport.

In the words of LL Cool J: “Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years”… Exactly seven, to be precise.

Last weekend London’s beloved Solid Grooves made a triumphant return to Printworks, finishing what they had started in an almighty fashion. Bibi and the gang had a point to prove, having their last party cut short due to the unfortunate silliness of a single individual. With that book left open on the table for quite some time, it was firmly slammed shut with a lineup many may deem to be just what the doctor ordered.

As we made our ascent up into the aesthetically overwhelming press halls, we were greeted by the nearing of heavy kicks and rolling rhythms. Just what you would come to expect from a party so distinctively recognisable by its audio trademark. Upon breaking into the seemingly endless corridor of the press halls, we immediately sunk into the flow of rising London talent Rossi, falling instant prisoners to his quirky, dub-tinged flavours laced with lucidly sultry vocals and injections of glitchiness.

A peak time crowd, eagerly filling the venue to the hilt from the early hours of the afternoon can only mean one thing: a highly-charged mass of people, crying out for great track selections and a good time.

As we moved blissfully through the gears with Grooves resident and longtime friend of ours, Ramin Rezaie then onto the delightfully wacky Reelow with his chunky, bouncing vibes, we were well and truly into the swing of the party. Seemingly so were thousands of other appreciators, as the pressure in the room continued to rise and rise in the most positive sense.

Drop the clutch and kick it up another level, it was time for an eagerly anticipated b2b with Latmun and Detlef. Providing a level of electricity that they have been championed for on many legs of their world tour together, they certainly didn’t disappoint. The playfully eccentric sounds of Latmun seem to just blend seamlessly with the grit and fatness of Detlef’s choice cuts, just like peas and carrots alongside the finest cut of lamb rib on a Sunday afternoon.

You have to ask yourself, is it socially acceptable to take a breather after such an emotionally demanding b2b? But when you’re faced with Michael Bibi into Steve Lawler then into the pair of them b2b, you pretty much find yourself delaying the inevitability of FOMO if you even consider anything other than getting lost in it. And that is exactly what we did. Over two and a half hours of two of the industry’s finest talents, going solo and then toe to toe. What a delight!

We then swung briefly into the Dark Room to catch our buddy Marco Strous laying down some badly behaved beats, having the situation (ie. the crowd) completely under control whilst noticeably really getting into that magic bubble that comes with being stood in front of a mixer and a room full of people.

Back out into the main room and the sounds of Darius Syrossian were breaking things up nicely. Some may say a bold move to introduce an artist on a different tip, but we think it’s good to keep things moving and it definitely stopped any possibility of things becoming too samey. A blend of thumping house, disco, techno and everything in between; just Darius being Darius really and doing a damn good job of it.

Lastly on to the tall, elusive figure of Pawsa. Unfathomably cool and laid back in his personality, with a ridiculous level of suaveness to his productions and performances. Rounding off the day with what was, for me, the most enjoyable set as I am a huge appreciator of the closing set. With great responsibility comes great pressure, and people often forget just how difficult it can be to play last especially when every single artist before you have been on their A-game.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable day out at one of London’s very best event spaces. It’s probably bested that you can’t get any signal in that main room, for fear of Shazam’s servers crashing indefinitely. We can’t wait to catch up with SG again when they take to Studio 338 on their ‘Road to Ibiza’ tour!

Following an emphatic debut season, Amnesia’s new Monday night party concept Pyramid Ibiza lands in London this weekend. Taking over Studio 338’s terrace in Greenwich for one exclusive date now seems like the ideal opportunity to reflect on that blockbuster inauguration.

With partnerships with the likes of GAME OVER and Keep On Dancing, it was clear that Pyramid meant business. Filling Cocoon’s big boots was never going to be an easy task – and going head-to-head with the island’s most popular underground party in Circoloco was gutsy.

Despite the task at hand, Pyramid can consider itself one of the success stories from Ibiza 2018. Not only was the party boundary-pushing musically, but it featured bespoke production, beautiful dancers and produced the already iconic triangle hand gesture, that would come to be adopted by attendees and artists alike.

Here are our Top 10 highlights from the seventeen-week residency.

1. Charlotte de Witte at Pyramid Ibiza opening party

Monday 4th June

Kudos must be given to Pyramid for having the foresight to give Belgium’s latest techno prodigy three dates. Having only made her Ibiza debut a year earlier, Charlotte de Witte wasted little time in showing why she is so highly touted as techno’s next great hope.

Slammin’ it down at the opening with exhilarating, white-knuckle velocity, de Witte left no doubt that she is the real deal.

She ended her set on ATB’s 9PM ‘Til I Come, much to the delight of the crowd. Though, her usual tougher, no-frills palate is what she will be remembered for.

2. FUSE come back to Amnesia

Monday 16th July

With Hyte out-going in the winter merry-go-round, it looked for some time as if Ibiza 2018 wouldn’t get any FUSE action in 2018. But Enzo Siragusa and Co. would eventually be confirmed to return to Amnesia’s club room for a one-off takeover in mid-July.

No surprise that this brought the masses. East London’s finest proved why they’re still one of the hottest collectives in underground dance music.

3. HOSH takes the dancefloor on a journey

Diynamic label takeover

Monday 23rd July

Few could dispute that the marquee draw on Diynamic’s 23rd July takeover was anybody other than Solomun. But how often is it the case, that highlight of the night falls to an unexpected protagonist. Enter stage centre: H.O.S.H.

Italian duo Undercatt did a phenomenal job of opening-up the club room as the crowd built. They alone were a tough act to follow. But the fryhide boss and long term Diynamic affiliate blew us away with an emotionally-charged and expertly layered set that drifted from ambient to indietronica to melodic techno. Spellbinding stuff.

The strings on Tone Depth’s Beirut were sublimely divine.

4. Darius Syrossian switches

Monday 6th August

Darius Syrossian made the club room his own in season 2018, as the (almost) weekly resident for Do Not Sleep – culminating with his show-stealing set at Amnesia’s closing party on Saturday 13 December. Certainly, his exploits on Thursdays fuelled the speculation that the nomadic party could finally be ready to settle roots moving forward.

However, it was his other Amnesia appearance that stood out as one of his best – a single date on the terrace for Pyramid in early August. We got to experience a different edge of Syrossian’s identity. This one became a firm favourite during his campaign, peaking our nostalgic senses.

We’re buzzin’ to see the ace return to Studio 338’s terrace next Saturday as Pyramid’s special guest.

5. Mind Against’s earthy tones

Monday 20th August

2018 felt like the year that brothers Alessandro and Federico stepped out of the shadow of mentors Tale Of Us, and started getting taken seriously as artists in their own right. Comparisons are perhaps understandable, given they share a lot of common ground. But make no mistake about it, Mind Against have a sound entirely of their own.

Teeing things up for Maceo Plex to take over the controls with heart-tugging intensity, Mind Against furthered their claim to be given higher billing in seasons to come.

6. Maceo Plex all night long

Monday 3rd September

Without the unnecessary pressure of his own weekly residency, 2018 marked a watershed in Maceo Plex’s Ibiza love-affair. Vanquishing the demons of the failed Mosaic project, it was summer in which he flourished yet again – in both the studio and in the DJ booth.

Down the years we’ve been treated to some special moments on Amnesia’s terrace courtesy of Eric Estornel – and this was another of those occasions. With the all-night-long format, we were treated to his full repertoire – including some classic Maceo.

Is anybody out there?” 2018 was the year mutants invaded the dancefloor and Plex came back!

7. Stephan Bodzin: live magician

Monday 17th September

The German composer and marvelled live act got about in 2018, with no less than eight tantalising Ibiza dates, predominantly for Pyramid and Afterlife. It was the final of his three commitments on Mondays that underlined his star-power.

In the absence of a “bigger” headliner on the line-up, Stephan Bodzin stood up as the main crowd-puller. Justifying his DJ Award victory as Best Live Performer the previous week, he delivered a virtuoso performance bursting with enthusiasm.

Bodzin? GOD-ZIN!

8. Sam Paganini’s only Ibiza date

Monday 17th September

Less is more – that is the mantra that Sam Paganini subscribed to when it came to Ibiza dates this summer. His sole outing came for Pyramid on 17th September. Alongside Len Faki and Hybrasil in the club room, it was one for the true tech heads.

The JAM boss joins Darius Syrossian at Pyramid’s first dalliance in London on Saturday 17th November. Anyone who missed out this summer can get a feel for what the party is all about.

Paganini brings the power. His latest acid-dripped production, Pulse is out later this month.

9. Ricardo Villalobos + [a:rpia:r] = genius

Pyramid Ibiza closing party

Monday 24th September

We struggle to recall exactly the last time Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu and Raresh all appeared together at an advertised event at one of the island’s superclubs – but needless to say, it was some years ago. Throw wildcard Ricardo Villalobos into the mix, and you had all the hallmarks of a classic for the Pyramid closing party.

The consistently inconsistent Villalobos actually had his best season ever. Securing him for six Monday terrace dates was a massive coup for Pyramid Ibiza. The mere thought of him alongside the Romanian soundsystem was a salivating prospect that more than lived up to the expectation.

We’d be lying if we told you we could identify any of the music. And if truth be told, we were so lost in it, we didn’t even bother reaching for our phone. But we imagine something like the above got played. Probably.

10. Pyramid Afterparty

Tuesday 25th September

Closing parties mean after parties. That’s an official Ibiza law… we imagine. In the days preceding the event, rumours were rife as to where it would take place. Predictions ranged from Cova Santa to Pikes. In the end though, we all piled back into Amnesia for some afternoon action.

The authorities’ tightened restrictions on finishing times meant – save for a few weeks in July – dancing on the terrace with sunshine beaming through the skylight was a thing of the past. So this almost made up for that.

Villalobos and the Romanians were in tow, as were all Amnesia’s residents including Mar-T, Luca Donzelli, Les Schmitz and Caal for a carry-on for the history books.

From one terrace to another. In association with Lock N Load Events, the Pyramid lands in London this weekend.

On Saturday 17th November, headliner Sam Paganini and Very Special Guest Darius Syrossian are joined by Amnesia resident Luca Donzelli, Mason Collective, Darksiight and Piqué at Studio 338.

In addition, Moon Harbour boss Matthias Tanzmann will play B2B with Detlef. Over the summer, Pyramid Ibiza had a habit of throwing together some exciting B2B pairings, including Ricardo Villalobos & Luciano, Mar-T & Cuatero and Luigi Madonna & Markantonio. While Detlef might have grown accustomed to sharing the booth with Latmun this summer, playing alongside Tanzmann will no doubt test his resolve.

Meanwhile, T. Bunts and Bowler look after the loft room. Having been inducted at Amnesia for Together this summer, the pair knows precisely what the Ibiza institution is all about. They are supported by Too Damn Glam’s Diason.

Final tickets are on sale now!

Ibiza is a small island that has its tourist areas well divided. San Antonio, it’s well known for its English public while Ibiza town has a bit more variety and in August you can quickly learn Italian just by visiting its port. In the last 3 years, Solid Grooves has been an underground tech house event only heard by the expert years and the genuine fans. With residencies in Sankeys, Benimusa Park and Privilege’s Vista Club their echo was heard with more frequency around San Antonio. 2018 has been really different. As a worker in the port of Ibiza not only I’ve started hearing about their line-ups among the Spaniards but all my Shazams in clubs all over the island were reviling more and more artists from their posters.

Solid Grooves returned this year with a strong mindset, exciting line-ups and extraordinary vibes. For sixteen weeks, every Sunday at Vista Club in Privilege you could dance at the rhythm of fresh unreleased tracks and intriguing remixes that came with the sets of talented producers and DJs that are setting the standards of today’s Tech House.

Last Sunday the 23rd September was their closing party, and we couldn’t miss out on sharing this one with you. Eddy M, Latmun, Reelow, Detlef, Michael Bibi and PAWSA were their announced DJ not to mention a secret guest that turned out to be two secret guests: Hector Couto and Dennis Cruz.

Mik Santoro, music producer, label manager and DJ decided to join me once more and give his experienced insight on this exciting event.

Despite no queue, at the door, the club was full at 1 am. Fans from all over the place in their majority English were expressing their excitement through powerful dance moves and accurate sing-alongs. The night was opened by Reelow’s B2B with Eddy M and tracks like Mark Knight & Prok & Fitch’s ‘Into My Life’, and Rino(IO)DJ’s ‘Cantaloop’ rang through the exquisite Funktion One sound system.

The first surprise guest entered the booth, and the crowd loved it, Hector Couto is a beloved artist in the Tech House scene, and you could tell by everyone’s reaction. Mik’s words on the surprise guest: “While the night was already started and warmed up by the b2b I was wondering who would be the special guest following; the huge LED wall showed the name of Hector Couto. I have to say that I had to attend to a lot of his shows here in Ibiza and I think that he is one of the best in playing tech house. He doesn’t limit the music to the groove and heavy beats, but he goes over putting classic tracks in a club vision, making all the people singing and raving with all their passion.”

Besides a few tracks that we could identify like Vincenzo D’amico’s ‘Paradise’ or Sante Sansone’s ‘Vice City’, his set was rich in complex mixes and freshly squeezed tracks until 3 am when he gave the control of the decks to Detlef. He selected among other fun tracks that kept everyone’s hands in the air his own production feat. Dajae ‘Deep Dip’ a summer exit that it’s been running around Ibiza’s clubs this season and a remix of Technotronic’ s ‘Pump Up The Jam’, a track that is experiencing a ferocious comeback this year. “Never heard of him but jeez he took the set of Couto, and he brought it on over the top putting that aggressiveness that Couto was keeping low” In Mik’s words.

Detlef’s set finished at 4:30 am when the second secret guest was introduced; PAWSA was going to B2B with Michael Bibi and Dennis Cruz. This dynamic trio performed the perfect ending of a season in Ibiza. Tracks like PAWSA’s ‘Party’, ‘No Critic’ by Dennis Cruz, ‘Ze Dance’ by Alex Vigo or Luigi Madonna’s ‘Unconditional Beauty’ kept the crowd cheering and dancing until the end of the night. All the staff and Solid Groove family members were very cool and professional in everything. We were not only entertained by DJs we had in front us talented producers that marked our dance steps and vibe.

If you are a tech House fan, these are the people you should check out and follow as they represent with great skill this genre.
