Something massively new sounding is accumulating in the electronic atmosphere. The first of many experimental Bass releases is taking the form of a Raincloud over the techno/bass landscape. It’s the first release from the legendary Caski and Near who have combined forces and birthed what will be a pillar of forward thinking Bass music called Raincloud Records.
Data Transmission was able to get their hands on an early copy of the debut release from Alan Johnson ‘Operator/The Poet’, and boy does it not disappoint. This debut release pushes the boundaries of what the traditional definition of Bass music in today’s scene, while at the same time keeping in mind that music is made to be danced too.
We, at Data Transmission, got a chance to sit down with the one and only Caski and Near to discuss their thoughts and motivations behind starting Raincloud Records. Playing their cards close to the vest, they hesitantly answered a few of our questions. It was clear that the duo are going to let the music that the label releases speak for itself. That being said, we were still able to drag a few answers from their musically brilliant minds.
Tell us more about Raincloud Records?
We just want to release music that’s a bit different. Maybe a bit risky, we’re not following what’s “in”. Something a little outside the box, it doesn’t have to be anything specific to a certain sound or style, just has to give off a certain feeling or “vibe”. We made Raincloud as it’s non specific, it’s not just one thing, not just dark or happy music, it’s both. Rain can be considered calming as well as a representation of energy (like a storm), in the near future we look forward to showing you some more of the intricate, non conventional music that we’re signing. Much like a (rain) cloud, we want the label to change and morph and not stay in one place. We feel that this debut release from Alan Johnson (which you can hear above) perfectly sets the tone for Raincloud Records.
How will the public get to hear what you have in store for the future other than the upcoming releases?
We’ve started a podcast series. There’s no specific formula to what we’re doing with them for the moment, we just want the artists that we invite to record them to feel completely boundary free and provide a mix of any style or tempo that they feel best represents them, check out the latest one below.
