Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Tracks I have made and enjoy playing right now.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Probably my release with Ridney on Fool’s Paradise. Love the combination of samples & original song writing. Ridney & Husky Feat Xira – You Ain’t Breakin’ My Heart’ (Husky’s VIP Club Mix) – Fool’s Paradise

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The Groove!

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
I have really enjoyed playing vinyl again at a new venue in Sydney called, Jam Record Bar.

Tell us about your next EP?
Really excited to have this new EP coming with Sebb Junior. We connected at ADE in 2023 again, even though we never actually met up in person! We chatted on whatsapp about jumping on a collab, Sebb sent me some stems for tracks he had already started and it was all done in a matter of weeks. Came together really nicely.

What have you got coming up?
A Baby! haha I new baby arriving in July. But work wise it’s just business as usual. Local gigs in Sydney, plenty of production in the pipeline with more collaborations with Manyfew & Romy Black, plus new singles with vocalists Sydney Jo Jackson & Rona Ray. I also have a new album from my alias project with Yogi, Random Soul. Really excited about this one as it’s been in the works for about 4 years now. 12 new tracks coming very soon!

Random Soul Recording is delighted to welcome back, Dante Tom. He has brought them a fresh follow-up to his smashing 2020 EP, ‘Down Together’.

This new single ‘Running Deep’ is a fruitful collaboration with Australian artist, Spectoral. ‘Running Deep’ is bound by classic house stabs which work incredibly well with Spectoral’s cleverly layered vocals. Driven by a throbbing bass line and Dante’s jackin drums, it’s a track ripe for a late night dance floor, or a poolside playlist.

After hearing the first few bars on the original, Random Soul really wanted to dive down into another version for ‘Running Deep’. In doing so, it seems to have brought out the best in the lads, as they explore slightly different tastes within their broad palate. Of course, all the usual Random Soul trademarks are there, the bouncing bass line, warm pads and uplifting melodies.

We premiere ‘Down Together’ on Data Transmission, check it out below here and grab it here.

Off Da Clock is back with another one of those block-rocking beats. ‘Keep Movin’ On’ is another slice of uplifting house music on Husky‘s Bobbin’ Head Music. Captivating vocal melodies and summer infused piano make this a memorable journey from the first few bars to the last.

Born and raised in Austin, TX, Chris Cortinas aka Off Da Clock is known for his signature sound of funky house grooves. With influences from Pink Floyd, The Police, Depeche Mode, CHIC, and Sister Sledge to the more recent sounds of Duck Sauce, J Paul Getto, Dr Packer, Dj Dan, and Angelo Ferreri, it’s undeniable what type of party you can expect.

As a padawan under producer and sound maestro Francis Preve, his crafty production has led him to release with such prominent labels such as Bobbin Head Music, Dj Dans Instereo Recordings, and EDX and Nora En Pure’s home label Enormous Tunes.

His last release (Where’s The Love) was supported by Sebb Junior, Jarred Gallo, Random Soul, and Samo just to name a few. The release climbed the Traxsource top 100 house chart hitting the top 10 and staying there for several weeks.  There’s no doubt the clock means business with every one of his releases.

We premiere ‘Keep Movin’ On’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it on Traxsource.

Berlin-based artist Dante Tom released his brand new EP ‘Down Together‘ on Husky’s Random Soul Recordings with both tracks flying on Beatport and Traxsource!  Dante revealed his, 5 essential production tools that he used for making this a deep classic house feel EP with a fresh modern touch.

When I went through both projects I realized that I used very few plugins. I actually used a lot of samples for both tracks. I made sure that every chosen sound is top quality and it fits the vibe. You know what they said. You can’t polish a turd. And it applies to music production more than to anything else. The right sound choice is the key!

Prophet 5 – Arturia – (“Dub Bass” preset)

My go-to bassline. I really like Arturia plugins and Prophet 5 is especially one of my favourites. To be totally honest, I have never been too good at creating my own sounds from scratch. Luckily enough Prophet 5 has some good bass presets and “Dub Bass” is just simply working very well for me. I used it on both tracks on the EP. I would usually tweak only the parameters in AMPLIFIER and FILTER sections to make sure that the bass is fitting nicely to my drums.

Prophet 5 is a part of the Arturia V Collection which also includes some other amazing classic synths. I recommend to check it out.

bx_subfilter – Brainworx (Free plugin)

Simple, effective and for FREE! This little bad boy has changed my entire game when it comes to treating the low end. With just a few quick adjustments, you can bring your bass to life. Apart from fatting up your bass, it also brings a necessary clarity and definition to your low end. You can really feel the difference when you A/B (bypass the plugin). Try it yourself!

Kickstart by Nicky Romero

I am sure that many producers are aware of this famous plugin created by a Dutch EDM star Nicky Romero and Cableguys. But if not, I would definitely recommend to try this one out. It’s possibly the quickest way to sidechain a house track. It’s my obvious choice mainly for sidechaining my bass to the kick. But quite frankly, I also use it on other instruments and especially on the effects or foley running in the background of the track to fill up space for a more organic feel. There are good presets to start with and with just a few tweaks, you will get the result you are looking for!

https://www.kickstart-plugin.com/

Ozone Imager (Free plugin)

Another freebie! Everyone knows that Izotope make some brilliant mixing and mastering plugins and some of them can be also a bit pricy. But luckily enough Izotope have released this “Free instant audio imaging” plugin to easily widen or narrow your sounds. It’s incredibly simple and effective. They are just two parameters inside, “Width” and “Amount”, plus everything is nicely visualised right next to it with three different vectorscope meters to help to check your stereo width and see how wide you are making your sound. Don’t grab it!

https://www.izotope.com/en/products/downloads/ozone_imager2.html

Btw during writing this article I found out that there is an upgrade to the version 2! And it’s still free, so no need to worry:).

HornetSongKEy MK3

A key detection utility that finds the key and tempo of a song or sample in realtime. Personally, I only use it for finding the key of a sample or a track I am working on. I usually try to be mindful in what key I am producing but it’s never bad to do a little check. Especially if you are not a classically trained musician like me. Also, not all samples are properly named and if that’s the case, HornetSongKey can come in handy. It saved me a lot of time on numerous occasions.

https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-songkey-mk3/

Conclusion:

After making music for almost a decade, I realized that you don’t have to own the most expensive and the fanciest plugins on the market to get the result you really want. Of course, they are top-notch VSTs and plugins which are worth to pay for but before you get stuck in buying everything (I used to do it haha), consider trying some of the FREE available options. Sometimes you will be able to find a magic. And remember, it all starts with the right sound choice.

I would like to know if you found any of the above useful in your production. Don’t hesitate to hit me up on Instagram and ‘Down Together’ is now available on all the platforms – https://rsr.lnk.to/downtogether/

Random Soul Records is delighted to shine a light on emerging talent, Dante Tom. This EP that he has put together has some straight-up magic! He has deep house flowing through his veins, and ever since relocating to Berlin, has started to find his stride.

Hailing from the Czech Republic, Tomas Tran aka Dante Tom (pictured) has spent a lifetime surrounded by music. As a young R’n’B and Hip Hop obsessed youth, he started his career singing, MCing and dancing, which lead him into the finals of the Czech X-Factor. His subsequent singles received regular airplay on Czech national radio and a new career was born.

“Down Together” combines warm pads, driving drums, throbbing bass and horn samples. All elements work together to create an energetic deep house record that’s loaded with nostalgia, but is as fresh as this mornings eggs! “Power Jam” keeps things a bit more on the deeper tip, however it’s certainly not lacking in dance floor energy. A hip shaking bass line is helped along with a twisted lead line, and moody chords. 2 unique tracks that are heavy on the vibe from this exciting new talent.

Listen to ‘Down Together’ below and Buy it NOW on Traxsource.

The follow up to 2015’s ‘Break Free’, ‘Go Don’t Stop’ is the new album from longtime soulful house champion Husky.

Let’s be honest: 99 times out of 100, it’s the songs that stay with us. 20 years ago house music was full of songs, but over time they’ve become less and less prevalent, to the point that you might go out raving without hearing a single fully-formed vocal at all. House music was born from collaboration, experimentation and from providing a hedonistic release from the monotony of the 9 to 5.

Husky Go Don't Stop is out 2nd October.
Husky Go Don’t Stop is out 2nd October.

Step forward Husky with his first album for half a decade, and a healthy dose of vocally-charged, glorious house music we could all use about now.

Husky is an artist who lives and breathes house music, and has over the last 15 years or so become one of the world’s most celebrated proponents of quality soulful and vocal house. Releasing on leading labels such as Defected, Salted, Dvine Sounds and Vicious Recordings, Husky had forged a unique path with his warm, intricate and affectionately produced records on the aforementioned labels and via his own Bobbin Head Music and Random Soul Recordings imprints.

“I absolutely love collaborating with artists around the world as it always forces you to adjust the way you work to coincide with new artistic ideas, sounds and methods. I started this journey about 3 years ago when I had some tracks I was working on that just sounded a little more ‘special’ than the others and it steadily grew to be the full 11 tracks it is now. I am so pleased with these tracks and working with some incredible artists has really bought this project to life. I couldn’t have done any of it without their artistic input, direction, and of course their skills. So this isn’t just my record, it’s ours… and now yours!”

Husky

Ultimately though this is an album that should be listened to as a complete experience rather than a collection of individual tracks. Though there’s real variation here, Husky’s deft touch ensures the journey from the depths of the rave to the glimmer of the pool party and back again is never less than effortlessly smooth.

Starting off the year in style, Husky & Yogi aka Random Soul deliver their latest slice of luscious, feel-good house music.

‘Take My Heart’ is piano-driven house cut, packed full of positive piano licks and a cleverly treated vocal hook from Yogi, and some driving bass and chord stabs to boot. Boasting all the usual production aesthetics you’d expect from a Random Soul production, Take My Heart also tips its cap to the funkier, soulful roots of both Husky and Yogi. Do not underestimate this: there’s plenty of grunt under the hood that will sound suitably epic on a hefty soundsystem.

Remixing the record are UK artists Rich Pinder & DJOKO. With a steady output on labels like Simma Black, D-Vine Sounds, Street King and Amplified records, the lads know their way around the techier side of a groove, and this stomping remix is designed to get the 4am speakers rolling, complete with throbbing bass, twisted vocals, synth stabs and acid melodies and its that that features in our premiere series today.
