469 – Jess Bays

Share

2015 was a big year for Jess Bays. Having blown away an expectant crowd at We are FSTVL and forged a fierce reputation on the White Isle that saw her pick up nomination for Best Newcomer at the Ibiza DJ award, she quickly added us to her growing legion of fans having moved both our soul and our soles with her trademark blend of uplifting vocals and tough tech beats on the number of occasions we caught her here on home turf in London.

Having now set her sights further afield (world domination being the end goal) Jess also heads up A&R for Sam Divine’s burgeoning D-Vine Sounds imprint and has supported some of the biggest names in the industry, raiding her illustrious archives to sets the floor alight with a mix of sounds from 70’s disco, 80’s groove, 90’s garage and the pioneering beats of today.

So with a featured slot at our ‘Class of 2016’ party on the Saturday 16th January at the Big Chill House in Kings Cross alongside Archie B and DJ Blaise, we thought the time was right to welcome her to the DT podcast so we could start our year as we meant to go on.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Journey through different house genres with a vocal twist!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
It has to be ‘Walk Out – DiMO BG’ without a doubt! We’ve just signed this track to our label D-Vine Sounds! It’s an absolute monster of a track and does some serious damage on club dancefloors! The vocal compliments the hard baseline perfectly.. We predict it to chart very well too!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The special ingredient is this mix is probably the opening track! I always like to start with something really vocally that has meaning too it. It really captivates you with its disco twist!

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Wow – what a question! I played on a Sunday at 93 Feet East for Dazed! I closed the night and the vibe was absolutely ELECTRIC in there! Never have I ever seen that venue popping like it was, full of proper party people! Then just before Christmas I flew over to Dublin and played at SIN Nightclub! I also just recently warmed up for in incredible Saytek Live which gave me the chance to really throw myself into a rolling tech house set that I thoroughly enjoyed – and so did Saytek!

What have you got coming up?
I’ve just confirmed a London Festival for later this summer which I can’t say too much about yet! We’re also running a D-Vine Sounds UK Tour with some really wicked venues booked in so keep an eye out for that! Keep up to date with my gigs via my Facebook page! Really excited to see what 2016 has in store for me!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
