Evoking a truly timeless vibe, Mij Mack comes in hot with Blasted. Boasting intricate percussion, evocative vocals and a deep, involving warmth, Blasted is a wonderful house cut from the very top drawer.

Hailing from Cheltenham, the music of electronic producer Mij Mack crosses a variety of genres. Previously releasing on labels such as Eton Messy, Black Butter, Kenja Records and Punks, his music incorporates elements of bass, house, techno, and broken beat, and has been supported by a huge range of A-list artists including Fatboy Slim, Roger Sanchez, Claptone, and Todd Terry.

Growing up around the sounds of classic rockers such as Frank Zappa and Deep Purple, his first exposure to electronic music came via acts like Groove Armada, Rokysopp and Faithless, all of whom remain strong influences to this day. As a teenager, he played various instruments that were lying around the house, before fully embracing electronic production after winning a competition to produce music for a short film at age 16.

Abbud has been leaving his signatures on major labels in the Brazilian and International scene, his biggest references that are from the European scene made him create strong characteristics in his musical style, today Abbud has been signing his authorship on major labels like: CUFF, G-SPOT, NERVOUS, LA PERA, COCOA among others. 

His tracks have been getting more and more attention, and not surprisingly, he has called the attention of big names like The Martinez Brothers, Michael Bibi, Jamie Jones, Joseph Capriati, Solardo, Cloonee, Will Taylor, Amine Edge and Dance, Manda Mor, Latmun, Eddy M, Guille Placencia, George Privatti, Classmatic, Gabe, and Brisotti, among other big names in the scene, who have been supporting his tracks. 

He says about the release “We made PPTAO a long time ago, it was one of our first collabs, and it worked out very well. It was right after our release on CUFF, the dancefloors nowadays ask for this mix between funk and tech house and we made an experiment that was exactly adding our aesthetics to the original song, many people ask us for this song, and we are very happy to be able to sign it in a label as historical as Nervous, surely this vinyl record will live in my studio.”

Queensyze is a Canadian DJ, producer, composer, and filmmaker. Having produced in various genres throughout her career, she released her debut techno EP The Pretty Lights in 2019. Supported by tastemaker media like Resident Advisor and Mixmag, The Pretty Lights broke into the coveted top ten Techno Chart on Beatport landing the #5 spot within the first week of release. 

Her long-awaited follow up to The Pretty Lights on Nervous Records, Smells Like Aciid, will finally be released this July. Originally slated for the winter of 2020, Queensyze suffered a traumatic brain injury that stopped her career in its tracks. Recovery has been slow, but finally, Queensyze is back to doing what she loves, making this follow-up EP even more important. 

The title track is a punishing techno cut, dominated by a furious, dynamic acid line that winds its way through sparse percussion and a powerful kick drum. Give Up Your Love is similarly impressive, with ethereal vocals from Sara Sukkha juxtaposed with a sawing synth line and dark drums, creating an atmosphere that’s haunting and invigorating in equal measure. 

A staple of the Vancouver underground scene, Queensyze is known for her innate ability to connect with her audience through her storytelling lens. Experimenting with records to create new sounds, and new rhythms, and learning how to build energy and soundscapes within the limitations of vinyl, these techniques have now become her signature as her DJ sets move fluidly between the hard and subversive much like her original productions.

Co-owners of the widely successful SOUP NYC record label and event brand, Love & Logic are staples in the underground house & techno community. Well known for their upfront mixing style, their history in dance music allows them to seamlessly navigate through different styles of House & Techno, dropping everything from unreleased tunes by today’s most cutting edge producers, to rare classics, to their own self-produced cuts.

They released their debut single “Righteous Way” on the world famous King Street Sounds record label and haven’t looked back since. 2015 saw massive records from Love & Logic including hit singles “Big Booty Bitches” on Riva Starr’s Snatch! Recordings, and “Bicycle Seat” on the storied Guesthouse Music label. In 2016 they released their popular single “Hot Business” feat. Derrick Carter, on their own SOUP label, in addition to dropping a massive EP on Junior Sanchez’s Brobot Records, and in 2017 they released their heavily supported “After Hours” single along with Zenbi with a massive Supernova remix in addition to remixing records from top selling artists Harry Romero and Eskuche. In 2019 they released their top selling single “Dreamz,” and remixed Gene Farris & GAWP on their own SOUP imprint, and after a hiatus for much of 2020, they return with a heavy schedule of releases slated or 2021, kicked off by their recent “Baba Yaga” dingle on the legendary Nervous Records.

Love & Logic held an official monthly SOUP DJ residency at NYC’s world-renowned Cielo nightclub for 6 years, make regular appearances at several highly regarded venues in NYC including Output/Panther room and are heavy hitters in the Brooklyn warehouse scene. Listed in DJ Mag’s ‘Up and Comin’ segment, their steady release schedule and regular DJ appearances at top venues have quickly earned them recognition as some of House and Techno’s fastest rising DJ talents.

The label was famous almost immediately when it started back in 1991 because of its eye-catching, very distinctive cartoon character logo. Nervous’ first major dance release came in 1992, with “Feel Like Singing” by Sandy B. Nervous decided at that point to focus its energy on expanding the label’s musical field. 

I sat down with label founder Michael Weiss and General Manager Andrew Salsano. We chatted about the label, the stories from the start, how they built the label. Also, we chatted about how the label has evolved over the last 28 years.

Bursting with groove and a timeless old school sound, ‘Fake Records’ is undoubtedly going to have dance floors jumping through to the early hours. The track serves up a hefty bass-line and rolling drum beats throughout, every sound fusing perfectly with the Hip-Hop influenced vocal sample and classic break down that resonates with the world of 80’s Chicago style house.

Ian explained “After the release of my first track ‘Wiggity Wack’ I was searching for my next inspiration. I was listening to some old school Hip Hop and  Dead Prez’s track – Hip Hop, came on, as soon as I heard the vocal,  I immediately knew that this was the sample that I had to workaround. I love producing tracks that include old school break-beats, Hip-Hop vocals, groovy bass lines and tight hi-hats,  you’ll find all of these elements in ‘Fake Records’. The track was so much fun to make and I feel it fits my personality and style perfectly.’”

Sound holds a residency at STUK, Slovenia where he has played alongside names such as UMEK and Mike Vale. The residency at the Maribor club has lead to numerous appearances at venues and festivals across the nation, joining the same stage as artists such as Joris Voorn & Klingande, including a landmark performance this summer at Slovenia’s biggest festival Stellarbeat.
