Brooklyn native and Love On Cropsey label head Mink has become a mainstay of both Brooklyn and Ibiza’s nightlife scenes delivering a level of consistency and sophistication in his sets seldom seen these days.
Rare cuts featuring seductive melodies, cheeky vocals, and thick hypnotic rhythms are woven together seamlessly in his sets providing a truly unique and warm experience. Aligning with some of the world’s biggest house/techno brands, Mink shows no signs of slowing down.
Mink has unveiled his own label, Love On Cropsey, encapsulating the sonic heartbeat of decades past and present. Mink has today released the label’s inaugural EP ‘NY/LDN,’ a four-track collection of dancefloor-ready grooves in collaboration with rising London star Azaad. The imprint channels the rich musical identity of New York’s house scene, with the label’s name paying homage to the street Mink’s grandparents used to live on.
Speaking on the label’s first release, Mink said: “I see this release having something for everyone across the world’s dancefloors, starting with NY & LDN. Happy to have this label’s first release with Azaad & myself. He’s one of my favorite producers on the come up. From our first conversation we shared a mutual respect for the scene and its amazing history. What better way to start Love On Cropsey”
We sat down with Mink to get to know him…
Hey Mink, welcome to DT. How’s your year going?
Hello, Hello! This year is going great. Excited for 2024
Can you introduce yourself to anyone who doesn’t know you?
The name is Mink, DJ/Producer from New York
Where are you based currently?
Currently in Brooklyn, New York
What inspired you to get into music?
I have been in clubs since the age of 13. From attending and being involved with teen parties. I started playing shortly after and never looked back.
Your First EP ‘NY/LDN’ With Azaad’ is coming out on your own label can you tell us about the plans for the label and how the EP come about?
The label will be a musical expression of moods. You’ll get a little of everything. Dancefloor cuts, groovers, deep etc. This EP came together when I was in Ibiza. Azaad and I spoke for months about how we wanted to approach this EP after I signed the highly supported “Be My Love”.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
UUFF that’s tough. I would say my biggest influence would be the true New York sound of the 90s. Which to me is the most important decade in house music. My favourite producers of that era and still doing it – Masters At Work (Louie Vega, Kenny Dope), Danny Tenaglia, and David Morales. So many to name but I would say these dudes are important to me as a DJ and producer.
How would you best describe your sound?
House music with hypnotic flavor, seductive melodies & infectious grooves.
What does a typical day in the life of Mink look like?
Typically, don’t have a set routine per day. Per week, I would say I hit my studio 3 to 4 days & dig for music the rest of the days. Each day is TBD.
What is your best advice to anyone starting out in the industry as a producer?
Create your own lane but still make it work for today’s sound. Stay away from Top 100. Create what you feel, not a version of something you heard.
What are your hobbies outside of music and production?
I Love stand-up comedy & listening to informative podcasts. Also worth a mention I love following basketball & combat sports.
Are you working on any new material?
Yes finishing up a bunch of solo projects and collabs for 2024
What can we expect from you in the next year?
Love On Cropsey releases & playing in more countries!
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
I think all of it is a highlight. I get to play music and make people dance. I have become friends with so many of my inspirations. At the core that is what is most important to me!
