DT704 – Quenum

Share

A lover of music in all its forms, QUENUM has an established 30-year career and has gained the respect of techno pioneers as well as the following of the younger generation.

When Quenum settled in London in the 90s he started working with Paulo Nascimento, a studio musician and sound engineer. In 1997 they released their first EP on Pacific Records – that is how Access 58 was born. They performed live and played DJ gigs at all the legendary London clubs, such as The End and the Velvet Rooms, for Carl Cox’s Ultimate Base nights. Access 58 collaborated with major artists of the 90s, such as The Advent and Umek and released over 30 EPs on various labels including their own (also called Access 58).

Quenum is known as one of the friendliest faces in techno, which explains why he loves collaborating with his brothers-and-sisters-in-arms. 13 years after releasing “Orange Mistake”, he was back on Cadenza with his EP “Solitaire”, which got rave reviews on Resident Advisor. They said: “It has one of those muted beats that marked the best early Cadenza releases.” For QUENUM, each collaboration is an opportunity to learn and share his passion with friends.

Today, he joins on the podcast for the first time. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here

Positive, groovy, melodic, going to make your booty move

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
My favorite track is Rebellion, my latest release on the Rebellion label. I love it because of its vibe and I had a great time working on it in the studio.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Love and positive energy.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Early July I played in Geneva, at the Audio club. It was like heaven after 4 months with no gigs.

What have you got coming up?
Lots of releases, an EP on AdMaiora with remixes by Cristi Cons and DeWalta. Another EP on Diversions, a project with Rich NxT on Infuse and a collaboration with Mathew Jonson. And more stuff later on.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
