DESIGN_ Records is excited to announce the release of ‘Heavy Hits’, the latest from Ricart Maria, set for release on October 4th, 2024.
This disco-infused, minimal tech groove is one of Maria’s most personal and powerful works to date, complete with remixes from the talented Ryan Taft and MedMan (UK), each offering their unique spin on the track.
The ‘Heavy Hits (Original Mix)’ showcases Maria’s knack for blending modern tech house grooves with a retro touch, revisiting the iconic sounds of 80s disco. With a rich bassline, full-packed drum groove, and immersive vocals, this track is built for the dancefloor, delivering moments that are bound to be cherished by listeners.
Ryan Taft adds his own twist, injecting a funky analogue groove into the bassline while stripping the track back to basics. He chops up individual drum loops and vocals, giving the track a fresh feel with his distinctive use of samples and hardware.
Meanwhile, MedMan (UK) integrates the original’s disco elements into his deeper, bass-driven sound. His remix nods to the track’s 80s roots while delivering an old-school house vibe with slick sampling techniques and pitch automation that elevate the track to new heights.
Whether it’s the original or the remixes, ‘Heavy Hits’ will surely make a big impact on the dancefloor. Mark your calendars for October 4th—this is a release you won’t want to miss!
We chatted to Ricart Maria about the release:
What were your inspirations and motivation for writing each track?
My inspirations and motivations for writing each track often stem from improvisation. I start by experimenting with different sounds on my Strat until I discover a groove that resonates with me.
While I do draw some inspiration from tracks by other artists, I ultimately end up with a different outcome that reflects my own style and preferences. Interestingly, the initial idea rarely pans out as expected; instead, it evolves into a completely different result than what I had initially planned.
What do you hope the track(s) feel like on the dance floor/ for the listener?
My main goal as both a DJ and a producer is to create tracks that will light up the dance floor and ensure that the crowd has an unforgettable experience. I aim for music that exudes energy and groove, something that will keep people dancing and having a great time throughout the night.
Ultimately, I want to transport listeners to a state where they lose track of time, fully immersed in the music and the moment. My hope is that when the party finally comes to an end, people will walk away with memories of a fantastic and enjoyable night that they’ll cherish.
Describe your process a little bit. Were there any specific/ new production techniques, unique instruments, happy accidents etc. during the production process?
In my production process, I enjoy experimenting with drums and percussion. I use a triple grid for hats to create variation and include fill claps, toms, and snares for rhythm. I emphasize a strong side chain effect in the bass.
When using sample loops, I cut different sections and consolidate them into a new loop to create a Ricart Maria version, often reducing transients by around 30 to 70 percent. These techniques help me craft unique tracks with a strong groove and movement to maintain the listeners entertained.
How do you feel about being the debut release for Design_ Records?
I’m really honoured and thrilled about the idea. I knew Design_ Records for a while now and it is definitely a dream come true.
