2021 saw another dance floor moment for Bristol-based UK producer and DJ extraordinaire Adam Gorsky aka GotSome, when he came together with vocalist and writer Alex Mills on the stomper that is “Shout it Back” on D4Dance.

Annie Mac made it her Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1, Arielle Free her “Big Whopper”, and Charlie Hedges (Radio 1) and MistaJam (Capital Dance), all rinsed the track throughout spring into summer. Kiss DJs also fell in love with the track with heavy rotation from Majestic, Sand Divine, TCTS, DJ Pioneer, Jess Bays and DJ SKT. To date on Spotify, it has done nearly 3 million streams too and continues to motor!

This builds on some already amazing career highlights for the Westcountry producer. In the early days, Adam’s skills spawned a slew of bass-heavy, dance floor destroyers such as ‘Bassline’, championed by Radio 1’s Annie Mac and signed to Defected Record. His edit of Kanye West’s ‘Fade’ was Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World, was played by Annie no less than 10 times on BBC Radio 1 and spent 5 weeks at the top of the BBC Radio 1 Dance Chart.

Fast forward to the start 2022, GotSome will continue to bring his undeniable talent to dance floors across the globe as well as unleash an onslaught of exciting new music via some of the key labels of the moment. Just out on Armada, “None Of Mine” with Sharlene Hector (Weiss) has been at the top of Danny Howard’s Friday night playlist on BBC Radio 1 and championed by MistaJam on Capital Dance.

More bullets are set to be fired with collabs with artists of the moment Chaney, Camden Cox, Eden Prince, Poppy Baskcomb, Lily Ahlberg and Damian Trueitt on some of the biggest labels including D4Dance, Toolroom, & Armada.

Adam has always received support for his productions from his peers, with the likes of Seth Troxler, Eats Everything, Skream, Gorgon City, Groove Armada, Disclosure, Rudimental, Calvin Harris, Diplo, Mark Ronson and many others consistently playing his tracks.

The Bristolian has toured throughout the UK and Europe, having held down a Together residency at Amnesia in Ibiza and played prestigious clubs and festivals including Glastonbury, Warehouse Project, SW4, fabric, Arcadia, IN:Motion, Hideout festival, Snowbombing, AMP Lost and Found, Wildlife, Bestival, Boomtown, Love Saves the Day and Secret Garden Party to name but a few. Outside of Europe, Adam has toured further afield with shows in Hong Kong, Singapore, KL, Bali, Bangkok and Dubai and is often out on the road internationally.

Today, he returns on the podcast again. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words

This mix will start your night off & finish at the afterparty.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Maybe my Paul Johnson edit. The guys at Defected asked me to remix Get Get Down before PJ get sick (RIP) Unfortunately the remix/edit never came out. I’ve been playing out in my sets since 2022 & it’s been working a treat.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I’m playing everything from singalong tunes to dirty techy club bangers.

Tell us about your next Single?
I’ve just put out my new single ‘Gold & Brown’ with South London vocalist Yulanda. It’s the first song on my DT mix & is out now on Toolroom’s new sister label ‘Love & Other’.

What have you got coming up?
I’m working on loads of cool new GotSome tracks atm
but they’re all super secret & undercover atm. So watch this space

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Go Ravin. Turn Your Phone off & Dance all night

IMS Ibiza, renowned as a leading platform bridging culture, education, industry, and wellness within electronic music, reveals initial details for its 15th summit. This edition marks a unique shift to the recently opened Mondrian Ibiza and Hyde Ibiza hotels in the serene Cala Llonga, hosting activities across both venues.

Privatizing these hotels exclusively for attendees fosters an intimate environment amid stunning surroundings. Just a short distance from Ibiza Town, this new venue offers a picturesque setting overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, inviting the global electronic music community for networking and discussions amidst breathtaking natural beauty.

Across three days, IMS Ibiza will bring together pioneers, creators, and disruptors from the electronic music realm. The summit will delve into music innovation, technology, diversity, education, and health. Hosted by Pete Tong MBE and Jaguar, it promises to dissect pivotal issues in the industry.

“IMS continues with our third and most important edition since the pandemic, but also our 15th event in Ibiza. Now that the industry has (mostly) enjoyed its bounce-back, this is the real test of stability as consumer habits settle down. It is also a moment where global events have impacted the unity of our scene, presenting many with challenging decisions to make. IMS also moves to a new property in Cala Llonga, a stunning part of our magical island that is now home to the new Mondrian Ibiza and Hyde Ibiza hotels, and now IMS. We can’t wait to host everybody again and continue to help set and drive the conversation.”

Ben Turner (IMS co-founder and lead curator)

Sessions will spotlight Ninja Tune‘s journey and Coldcut‘s inspiration for an equitable label, explore Tomorrowland‘s evolution and its philanthropic endeavours, address industry values in turbulent times, and celebrate Amapiano’s global impact. Additionally, discussions will reflect on Defected Records‘ 25-year trajectory post-acquisition and highlight Germany’s thriving music scene.

The summit integrates well-being experiences daily, emphasizing mental and physical health, co-curated by experts in meditation and sound therapy. It will also feature a Brave Space by He.She.They, fostering open dialogues on inclusivity and respect.

Partnering with EarthPercent, IMS Ibiza pledges a portion of delegate badge purchases and event sponsor levies towards climate action. This aligns with their commitment to support impactful climate and biodiversity organizations, vetted by a renowned Expert Advisory Panel.

“We’re delighted that IMS have made the pledge of 1% contributions to EarthPercent. The funds will go towards some of the most impactful climate and environmental solutions around the world. We’re in the middle of the most challenging crisis we will ever face and the music industry has an amazing opportunity to champion action. It’s hard to know what to do but we know that uniting voices, values, and funds can make a huge difference so we’d love others to join IMS in the movement too.”

Brian Eno (Artist and co-founder of EarthPercent)

Delving further into the theme of IMS Ibiza 2024 and the current state of electronic music worldwide, Rebuilding Our Community: How To Bring Back Peace, Love, Unity & Respect will explore ways to honour and reinstate industry values during times of community division, as seen amid the aftermath of recent global events.

Beyond these sessions, delegates can immerse themselves in exclusive island events, including the iconic IMS Dalt Vila closing celebration. Delegate badges, hotel accommodations, and discounted rates for eligible attendees are available through the IMS website, encouraging sustainable travel practices for a vibrant and engaging summit experience.

Shermanology consists of the talented brother and sister duo, Andy and Dorothy Sherman. Hailing from Amsterdam but raised in Curaçao, they have expertly blended their Caribbean and Dutch backgrounds to create their distinctive ‘Soultek’ sound. This unique musical style has garnered significant attention in the club scene, as well as on A-list radio stations, and has propelled them to new heights on the global festival circuit.

In the past year, Shermanology achieved tremendous success with their collaboration ‘It’s A Killa‘, alongside Australian producer and DJ FISHER, amassing over 35 million streams. Additionally, their track ‘Tell You What It Is’, featuring Eats Everything, caught fire and their self-released single ‘Boyz N Da Club’ surpassed 21 million streams. Notably, ‘Boyz N Da Club’ was named Annie Mac‘s Hottest Record in the World. With a remarkable Spotify following of over 100 million streams, Shermanology has proven their ability to captivate audiences.

Now, Shermanology has made their highly anticipated debut on Defected with the infectious house track ‘Sometimes‘, further solidifying their status as an unstoppable duo to watch. This feel-good anthem showcases their immense talent and sets the stage for even more extraordinary achievements in their musical journey.

We caught up with the duo for a quick round of 5 Facts / 5 Tracks…

5 Facts:

1. Andy is always on the move and just does not know what to do with days off – Dorothy on the other hand lives for holidays!

2. Dorothy didn’t start her career with the natural confidence she now displays on stage – when she was 12 years old she gave Andy singing lessons as she was too shy to sing alone in a local talent competition!

3. Shermanology have recently started their brand Remix Couture. Over a decade ago, they embarked on a journey to create their own show outfits. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Janet and Michael Jackson, as well as Prince and many others, they ventured into the realm of fashion. Now, in 2023, they have decided to continue this remarkable journey under the name Remix Couture with the aim being to revolutionise the way they approach outfits.

4. Both Andy and Dorothy are fully adept at a range of Martial Arts.

5 . Andy used to be a singer! But unfortunately, nobody could translate what he had in mind for the Shermanology sound. So Andy dove into becoming a producer and when he found out that his passion for producing was bigger – bringing Dorothy on board with her incredible singing talent creating the inimitable Shermanology Sound!

5 Tracks:

Soul 2 Soul – Back To Life

This inspired us to do what we do now. It has the perfect balance between electronic and soul.

Missy Elliot – Get Your Freak On

The way that they combined a different culture with R&B was something that was never done before. This blew our minds.

Disclosure – Latch

This vocal was insane! The triplet beat was something that we’d never heard in electronic music.

CeCe Peniston – We Got A Love Thang

This is Dorothy’s all-time favourite classic! Such big vocals on electronic music – it was a real eye-opener for us!

Lost Boyz – Renee

Everything about this song was perfect – Storytelling and the beat…flawless.

…And I have to tell you our number six. Not because you asked for it. but you need to know! Bonus! Lol…

Mobb Deep – Shook Ones

This was sooo fresh! And when Mariah Carey made her version we lost it!  So mesmerizing!

Shermanology’s latest track ‘Sometimes’ is out on Defected Records now…grab it here!

Dubbed an ‘Up & Coming Talent’ and ‘rising star’ by global phenomenon elrow, FLORENTIA is one of a wave of fresh female artists emerging into the dance music scene from London/ Essex by storm. National and global recognition blossoms for the British born, Greek Cypriot producer, as her name on the dance floors begin to spread far and wide.

With a plethora of armed productions, festivals and bookings set around the world for 2022, the rising artist’s groovy, unique cuts and DJ skills is what made elrow take FLORENTIA under their wings, naming her an ‘Up and Coming Talent’ as she won their worldwide Up & Coming Talent Programme out of 4,000 artists globally, turning heads of many promoters and house heads overseas.

Currently, part of the team behind the UK’s most influential house music label of all time, Defected Records, and now part of the elrow family alongside De La Swing, Eddy M and George Privatti, it is inevitable that 2022 will be a breakthrough for the young talent, with debuts set around all of Europe and the house hedonistic white isle, Ibiza and their super-clubs, Amnesia and Ushuaïa.

Her daring, warm and infectious style is translated into her mixes, showcasing her skills as a DJ and selector and the music she likes listening to as a party goer and producer. Within the past year, FLORENTIA has played alongside and supported artists like Franky Rizardo, Monki, Tini Gessler, Endor, Basement Jaxx, Ellie Cocks, and even warmed up the Bacardi Sponsored D-Rum Sessions for the legendary Defected Records to a brand new basement club.

For the past 4 years with hard graft in the studios honing her skills and learning at London’s renowned Point Blank Music School from 2017 – 2020, FLORENTIA graduated with a ‘Music Production and Sound Engineering’ First-class degree and has now been labelled a ‘Student Success’ by none other than Point Blank themselves. FLORENTIA grew up with parents who listened to Soul, Motown, Jazz, 90’s and late 80’s House, which then led her on to discover the sound of the Underground House music scene in London early at school. Before being old enough to experience the scene, she already wanted to pursue a career in music due to her passion for the industry and of course, the music. Her undeniable drive, ambition and resilience stems from being an athlete at a very young age and always thinking that “the sky’s the limit”. There is no doubt that the 23-year-old has an inspiring future ahead of her and is ready to make a stance for herself in club culture & the dance music industry.

She joins the Spotlight mix today, check it out here and download it here.

Eden Prince is a music producer from Stoke-On-Trent, UK. His unique brand of energy-infused house music features giddy rhythms buttered with soulful chord progressions that glide across a wide emotional spectrum. Classic house feelings filtered through a contemporary lens.

Growing up in London, Eden’s passion for music production began as a child when he stumbled across beat-making software while looking for games on his cousin’s computer. After constantly being caught sneaking into his school studios after-hours to work on hip-hop beats, Eden’s music teacher persuaded him to go to Leeds College of Music, where he honed in on his skills and developed a taste for house music.

‘Memories’, Eden’s standout debut EP is an electrifying hint of exciting things to come from the producer. “Lift Your Energy” was named MistaJam‘s Today’s Anthem and was put on rotation by BBC Radio 1 tastemakers such as Annie Mac, Diplo, Scott Mills and Katie Thistleton.

With a locker full of remixes, over 200 million+ streams on Spotify and plenty of originals on the way, on labels including Atlantic, Defected, and Solotoko, it seems he’s only just getting started. When asked about his music philosophy, Eden said “Making music for me is therapeutic and I hope that the good energy I get from it translates and reaches the listeners. It’s about the feeling and it’s about bringing people together”.

Today, he lands on the Spotlight Mix series today, check it out below and download it here

Together’ message accompanying this week’s event is clear, encouraging people to stay home and connect virtually through the power of music.

The rest of the line-up includes Black Motion, Claptone, David Penn, Mambo Brothers, Mike Dunn, Roger Sanchez and of course, Defected’s leading lady Sam Divine.
