IMS Ibiza, renowned as a leading platform bridging culture, education, industry, and wellness within electronic music, reveals initial details for its 15th summit. This edition marks a unique shift to the recently opened Mondrian Ibiza and Hyde Ibiza hotels in the serene Cala Llonga, hosting activities across both venues.

Privatizing these hotels exclusively for attendees fosters an intimate environment amid stunning surroundings. Just a short distance from Ibiza Town, this new venue offers a picturesque setting overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, inviting the global electronic music community for networking and discussions amidst breathtaking natural beauty.

Across three days, IMS Ibiza will bring together pioneers, creators, and disruptors from the electronic music realm. The summit will delve into music innovation, technology, diversity, education, and health. Hosted by Pete Tong MBE and Jaguar, it promises to dissect pivotal issues in the industry.

“IMS continues with our third and most important edition since the pandemic, but also our 15th event in Ibiza. Now that the industry has (mostly) enjoyed its bounce-back, this is the real test of stability as consumer habits settle down. It is also a moment where global events have impacted the unity of our scene, presenting many with challenging decisions to make. IMS also moves to a new property in Cala Llonga, a stunning part of our magical island that is now home to the new Mondrian Ibiza and Hyde Ibiza hotels, and now IMS. We can’t wait to host everybody again and continue to help set and drive the conversation.”

Ben Turner (IMS co-founder and lead curator)

Sessions will spotlight Ninja Tune‘s journey and Coldcut‘s inspiration for an equitable label, explore Tomorrowland‘s evolution and its philanthropic endeavours, address industry values in turbulent times, and celebrate Amapiano’s global impact. Additionally, discussions will reflect on Defected Records‘ 25-year trajectory post-acquisition and highlight Germany’s thriving music scene.

The summit integrates well-being experiences daily, emphasizing mental and physical health, co-curated by experts in meditation and sound therapy. It will also feature a Brave Space by He.She.They, fostering open dialogues on inclusivity and respect.

Partnering with EarthPercent, IMS Ibiza pledges a portion of delegate badge purchases and event sponsor levies towards climate action. This aligns with their commitment to support impactful climate and biodiversity organizations, vetted by a renowned Expert Advisory Panel.

“We’re delighted that IMS have made the pledge of 1% contributions to EarthPercent. The funds will go towards some of the most impactful climate and environmental solutions around the world. We’re in the middle of the most challenging crisis we will ever face and the music industry has an amazing opportunity to champion action. It’s hard to know what to do but we know that uniting voices, values, and funds can make a huge difference so we’d love others to join IMS in the movement too.”

Brian Eno (Artist and co-founder of EarthPercent)

Delving further into the theme of IMS Ibiza 2024 and the current state of electronic music worldwide, Rebuilding Our Community: How To Bring Back Peace, Love, Unity & Respect will explore ways to honour and reinstate industry values during times of community division, as seen amid the aftermath of recent global events.

Beyond these sessions, delegates can immerse themselves in exclusive island events, including the iconic IMS Dalt Vila closing celebration. Delegate badges, hotel accommodations, and discounted rates for eligible attendees are available through the IMS website, encouraging sustainable travel practices for a vibrant and engaging summit experience.

On Saturday 19th December, master of the dance Pete Tong and Jules Buckley & The Heritage Orchestra unloaded into London’s empty O2 Arena to record the 5th edition of their annual sell-out show ‘Ibiza Classics’.

‘O Come All Ye Ravers’ was the first-ever global live stream event filmed from the floor of the iconic 20,000 capacity venue. It was also the first music to have been played in the space since it closed its doors in March.

2020, our whole year has been lost. No tours. No shows. No exceptions. We can’t be together in clubs or concert arenas BUT we can still put on a show for you. We’re going to perform from the floor of The O2 arena and broadcast it right into your homes. The rave will be back one day but for now, we are going to make the most of what we have. ” – Pete Tong

The global live stream aired on New Year’s Eve via LIVENow and was expertly crafted by two of London’s most exciting creative houses – Up The Game and Cassius Creative. They worked in unison to create a jaw-dropping visual and audio show. The spectacular visuals created reawakened Ibiza Classics for 2020 bringing the rave directly into our homes.

From the dreamy opener of De’Lacy ‘Hideaway’, to the show-stopping rendition of ‘Running’ sung by Jessie Ware herself, from the upbeat such as Basement Jaxx ‘Red Alert’, to the more downbeat Massive Attack ‘Unfinished Sympathy’, a full range of classics were given a fresh revamp. Myself and my partner were certainly having a good ol’ time stomping around our flat as I’m sure everyone else was from around the globe.

Let’s be frank, you can’t replace a night out by staying indoors, and an online audience is not the same as a live audience, but this was as close as anyone was going to get over the Christmas period, and they did an absolutely bang-up job. Hats off and let’s hope things start getting back to normal in 2021 so we can all dance together soon!

Frank Wiedemann – Granville (Chorus) https://datatransmission.co/single-reviews/frank-wiedemann-granville-chorus/ Sun, 14 Jun 2020 10:39:02 +0000 https://datatransmission.co/?p=57268 A skanking techno groove that builds like a steam train powering through the night, unstoppable, heavy and dangerous.

I do love it when you tune into the sound of a piece of music that stands out from a mix, a club night or a radio show and just have to know what it is. This is exactly what happened to me with Frank Wiedemann’sGranville EP’ on brand new label Chorus.

Dig that degree deeper and you’ll find the story of Marcus Worgull, German producer and Innervisions artist who categorically stated he’d never run a label. When his friend Frank Wiedemann stepped up with a solo EP that was so good, having trusted Marcus’ ear to treat his music right he knew an outlet was needed and Chorus was born.

If you didn’t know, Frank Wiedemann is one half of the uber talented Âme and co-owner of the stalwart label Innervisions with Dixon. Put together all those touch-points and the scene is set for that special story to play out all the way to a happy ending. We all know that happy endings are not guaranteed, but from the opening bars of ‘Granville’ you get the sense that the production quality is deeply ingrained into the fabric of the production. It’s complex, deep and I would imagine for some a little challenging. To those with the ear for rich and powerful sounds this is immediate. Not in a commercial way, in a way that you know takes experience and pedigree to commit to a composition like this.

Granville’ is twisted yet soulful techno. It could be deep house, perhaps with a touch of the progressive too. You decide, because the box it comes in doesn’t matter. What does matter is the quirky organs, the repetitive bleeps, the nagging bassline, squelchy analogue and the clever affected percussion. The ever changing soundscape is like watching the scenery slip by from the back seat of a car or the moon sliding out from a cloud on a starry night, magical and surreal, emotive and life-affirming.

In the right club you’ll set fire to the curtains. In the wrong club you’ll clear the floor. I know which club I’d rather be in.

Lurking behind and nudging gently for the top spot is ‘Themroc’, a skanking techno groove that builds like a steam train powering through the night, unstoppable, heavy and dangerous.

It’s another quirky groove, percussive, bass driven and attention seeking from the off. The unusual vocal lulls you into a false sense of security, but the bass and skanking synths are the fire to the ice that propels this monster groove. There’s melody too, it’s an ear worm in the most thuggish way, but when the break comes in a powerful arpeggio slopes in and settles the argument, the synths go crazy and the whole thing lifts the roof.

For those that love the groove there’s a dub that is exactly that, grooved out dub techno. I can imagine this whole EP being played by François Kevorkian or Danny Tenaglia, it’s Germany, New York, London, Ibiza……

Support from corners as diverse as John Digweed and Pete Tong too.

This EP is touched with a little genius, and it’s not for the faint-hearted. Make no mistake this is one underground, heavyweight jam, the likes of which we rarely see. Get on it, but don’t tell anyone else. This is our secret, right?

Score: 9/10

The post Reviewed: 25 Years of The Essential Mix at WHP appeared first on Data Transmission.

For the last 25 years, there’s been a showcase of the world’s seminal moments in nightlife. From the farthest regions, this planet has to offer have come mixes of all varieties featuring artists Lindstrøm, DJ Snake and David Holmes. In recent years we’ve seen the likes of Helena Hauff really showing the world what club culture has to offer; but the one thing that all of these artists have truly in common is the man himself, Pete Tong; and the excellence he’s nurtured along the way, none other than BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix.

For the big celebration, The Warehouse Project plays host to yet another stellar lineup of artists. None other than the man himself Pete Tong would be gracing the decks, being joined by the fantastic duo that are The Martinez Brothers. Eats Everything would be turning back time with his ‘93 set, with both Artwork and B.Traits entering the mix across the evening. With HAAi, Theo Kottis, Krysko and Greg Lord all supporting, this was a lineup not to be missed.

With eager visitors up from London, we loaded up on hotel made cocktails and Buckfast and made our way back towards Manchester’s musical depths. This time, unlike the week prior, was extremely busy. Queuing all the way back up to the station was something I’d not seen in the 10 years I’ve been coming here, but this is a positive for Warehouse Project; despite the large queue, we got into the venue in less than 30 minutes, with both ticketing and security staff being seriously efficient.

Arriving into room two and to the sounds of HAAi we grabbed a couple of beers and shoved our way a little closer. HAAi provided an exceptional display of selection; with tunes such as ‘Angel Dust’ by Akalino keeping the crowd moving as the place filled with the remaining stragglers.

Stepping into the main room we were greeted by Pete Tong who whisked us on a journey through the past with classic around every corner. Grabbing another beer (or seven) we went back to see an artist who recently really amazed me. At Gottwood I was lucky enough to see him play as Grain b2b Jackmaster. But this time, under his original name; Artwork. There’s no surprise that he was given residency at fabric earlier this year; and with him continuing the old school vibes of the night, once again; I was not disappointed in the slightest.

Grabbing some more beer we bounced between the rooms for a bit to check out BBC favourite B.Traits as well as Edinburgh party favourite Theo Kottis; who both continued the style of the night.

The entire evening provided such an incredible experience; with tunes such as Cajmere’s ‘Percolator’ sounding through the arches, and up-tempo bangers like Smooth Touch’s ‘House of Love’ the music was nothing short of amazing.

But the best set of the evening has to go to Eats Everything. The man who is famous for not only producing some seriously successful tunes, but also being the only person to two BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes within the space of a year!! I’ve seen him play before and whilst his normal style isn’t my general cup of tea, tonight he really took my breath away. His ‘93 set summoned up some serious rave nostalgia. Piano riff’s galore and non-stop 808 breaks, this was a powerful set which left sweat dripping from the ceiling and nothing but smiles all around.

The Warehouse Project delivered nothing short of its usual spectacle, leaving punters well and truly in awe, but because it’s Manchester, once again, it’s raining and we’ve got to walk home…
