One of London’s best venues fabric has announced the long-awaited upgrade to its legendary Room 1 BodyKinetic dancefloor, marking the final step in the Room 1 sound system overhaul. This project kicked off in 2024 as part of the massive ‘fabric25’ celebrations and continues the club’s 25-year partnership with Martin Audio. Now, Room 1 is taking things to the next level, pushing boundaries in immersive sound.

For the first time since 1999, the world’s first BodyKinetic dancefloor has had a major upgrade, completely reimagining how crowds experience sound and vibration. Working with Powersoft, fabric has introduced cutting-edge Movers—high-tech linear transducers—designed to make the music feel even more intense. The new system delivers way more power and precision, creating an ultra-immersive, haptic experience that lets dancers connect with the music on a whole new level.

The original sound design for Room 1 featured a groundbreaking and advanced dance floor, incorporating Bodysonic transducers. These transducers resonated the floor with silent subharmonics that travelled through the body. Combined with a quadraphonic speaker setup and impeccable audio processing from the DJ booth, the system was ahead of its time. Keith Reilly and Dave Parry established themselves with the forward-thinking club design they introduced 25 years ago. Staying true to our heritage, we chose to retrofit and refine the original system rather than replace it entirely.

We knew the newly refurbished Room 1 sound system wouldn’t be complete without upgrading the floor as well. We’ve been working tirelessly to make this happen. Installation began immediately after the New Year’s Day show, with the full technical team involved and years of planning and design behind it.

Arguably unnecessary? Perhaps. But we believe it’s worth it.”  Matt Smith – fabric Technical Manager

The Tech Behind It

Powersoft’s system is a game-changer, needing just 36 units instead of the 450+ transducers used in the old setup. Unlike traditional systems where copper coils move inside a magnetic field, these Movers flip the process—moving the magnet within the coils. The result? More power, better reliability, and a stronger physical connection to the music. They also use way less energy, making them a huge leap forward in tactile sound technology.

Accessibility Through Vibration

One of the most exciting parts of this upgrade is how it makes music more accessible for the Deaf community. By turning sound into vibrations, the dancefloor allows people to feel the music in a whole new way. fabric is working with Deaf Rave to fine-tune the system, making sure it delivers the best experience possible for those with hearing impairments.

Sound Meditations at fabric

The new dancefloor also sets the stage for something completely different—Mastery Quantum Sound, a series of events blending meditation and electronic music. Quantum Sound first landed at fabric in March 2024, with Daniel Avery performing an ambient live set to a crowd lying down, eyes closed, alongside an immersive sound journey from Cherub Sanson and Tim Wheater. Now, Quantum Sound is officially teaming up with fabric for a residency running from 25th February to June 2025.

Across five events, artists like Hannah Holland, Flora Yin Wong, Wata Igarashi, and Jennifer Loveless will explore the deeper side of sound, with a special guest closing the series. The final event will take things even further, mixing live music with Cherub and Tim’s sound healing expertise for a unique fusion of club culture and wellness.

Tickets are limited, so sign up now for early access. fabric and Quantum Sound will also be reserving free tickets for members of the Deaf community. CLICK HERE

The new dancefloor is now open to the public and is fully functioning in Room 1, so get yourself down to an event and check it out asap!! Check out their What’s On page here

A new initiative, #RespectTheCreators, which is backed by AFEM (Association For Electronic Music) and supported by key figures in the electronic music world, is launching with one clear goal: to set a fresh industry standard for giving proper credit to music featured in social media videos and content uploaded by DJs, artists, labels, and brands.

Social media—especially live event footage—plays a huge role in discovering and promoting new talent, but only when the artists behind the music are properly credited.

The campaign’s organisers believe that now is the right time for the industry to embrace a new standard of transparency and respect when crediting others’ work. They’ve outlined best practices that are already backed by major names in the industry, including DJ/Producer Mason, BAM! Popauteurs, fabric, Mobilee, Glasgow Underground, Good Company, Buma/Stemra, Data Transmission, Neighbourhood, LabelWorx, Your Army, and Aslice.

In a passionate keynote speech at IMS Ibiza, Dutch DJ and producer Frank Nitzinsky highlighted some key stats: on average, only 3% of a DJ’s set is music they’ve personally produced, and a whopping 90% of DJ content shared on Instagram doesn’t credit the music being played. These emotional, high-energy video clips are the backbone of marketing campaigns for artists, labels, promoters, and more, often reaching millions of potential fans. Yet without proper credit, it’s only the DJ or the account posting the video that benefits—not the original creator of the track.

Mason

That’s where the #RespectTheCreators campaign comes in. Its goal is to educate artists, fans, and industry pros about the importance of giving credit where it’s due across social media.

So why isn’t music being credited? The reasons range from simple apathy or ignorance to the old-school DJ mindset of keeping the best tracks a secret. But the campaign’s organisers argue that respect for other creators has always been part of electronic music culture—and it’s time that this respect extends to social media, too.

The campaign stresses that a healthy music ecosystem relies on supporting talent from the ground up and that artists have a fundamental right to be recognized for their work. DJ culture can’t be the exception—whether you’re a creator or a curator, there’s a shared responsibility here.

Whether it’s using tools on platforms like Instagram and Facebook to tag the music via stickers or simply including the artist and song title in your post’s caption, the campaign urges everyone in the industry to think about how they can respect the creators of the music they love every time they post online.

So, how can you #RespectTheCreators?

It’s easy:

DJs: When you share a video from a gig or mix, and the music isn’t yours, tag the artists and list the track names prominently.

Online Platforms: Ensure track lists are clearly visible below videos or audio content.

Promoters: Make sure the music featured in your event promotions gets credited.

London music venue and brand fabric are exploring new realms with EXODUS, a two-day outdoor electronic music festival set to arrive for an inaugural edition in summer 2023.

For 23 years fabric has been at the heart of London’s dance music scene. In 2023 the enduring institution will migrate to a new location, taking its underground ethos outside of its central London home for the first time. Curated by the team behind club nights and live music events at fabric, EXODUS promises two back-to-back days of curated line-ups reflecting the diversity, quality, and forward-thinking programming policy of the London club. The festival will celebrate the best of the music that has come out of fabric over its two-decade history, as artists from the past, present and future of dance music culture come together in one collective experience.

EXODUS will take place at a yet undisclosed location just outside of London on 8th and 9th July 2023.

“After nearly a quarter of a century celebrating and enjoying nightlife in our London home, we’re taking fabric outside of the EC1 basement with a new outdoor summer gathering which mirrors our ethos and the music we love. The festival is curated by the team behind the club and brings together artists from the past, present and future of dance music culture into one collective experience. The amazing journey we’ve been on with our venue continues, but now feels like a good time to do something different. We appreciate there are so many wonderful festivals out there – we have huge respect for our friends, colleagues and those who work hard to allow people to have amazing experiences and such a good time; but as a team we feel we can add something that complements such an amazing scene and with our own twist. We really hope everyone can enjoy what we are planning.”

London club fabric has revealed the first wave of acts for their upcoming 23rd birthday party. The party will include a FABRICLIVE edition on Friday 14th October and a non-stop 30-hour session between 11pm on Saturday 15th and finishing at 5am Monday 17th October.

The fabric Birthday is always a highlight in the London clubbing calendar. Since opening its doors in 1999, fabric has seen countless changes, welcomed various legends through its doors, and kept the electronic scene in the capital moving. This year’s birthday party continues the tradition of Never Not Making Noise with a continuous 30-hour rave starting from Saturday night through to the early hours of Monday morning.

The line-ups scope both UK sounds – particularly bass and garage, as well as the growingly influential sound of amapiano on the Friday night – while Saturday–Monday will showcase some of the best in techno, electro, house and minimal in all its forms, including the quintessential club sounds fabric has become a staple destination for.

For the very first time, FABRICLIVE will bring a South African amapiano artist to Farringdon. Virgo Deep makes his fabric debut on Friday 14th October, alongside Kitty Amor, Charisse C and KILLAMANJARO, all confirmed for the FABRICLIVE edition of the birthday. Plenty more VERY special guests will be revealed for the first section of the birthday in the coming weeks.

The rest of the weekend is set to welcome staple club favourites Ricardo Villalobos – for his second only London gig to date in 2022 – Francesco Del Garda, Craig Richards, Margaret Dygas, plus club residents Anna Wall, Bobby. (Pleasure Club), Harry McCanna – who enlists fellow North/South Records bosses Sam Bangura and Dale Mussington back for a label room takeover – and Josh Caffé who brings back Love Child for a collective showcase.

Techno heavy-hitters Dax J, VTSS, AFRODEUTSCHE, Tapefeed, JASSS (club debut) and fka.m4a add another dimension to the Saturday-Monday edition, with the vibrant and energetic sonics of DJ Tennis and DT fave KiNK rounding off the expansive line-up.

The 30-hour section of the 23rd birthday extravaganza also marks the return of fabric’s 24+ Hour event series Continuum which launched last year and saw a programme of extended events of non-stop feature. More news is set to follow on future Continuum events at fabric…watch this space!

As usual, the fabric birthday will promote fun above all else. Expect fancy dress, special gifts and some one-off treats you won’t find on a usual club night.

Junction 2 is one of the UK’s premier festival brands, this year they bring back the Inner City off-cut of the award-winning event for an indoor festival like no other. Taking place across the vast spaces of Tobacco Dock and fabric, the iconic venues will feature nearly 40 hours of the very best artists in underground house and techno, the event is set to build on the sell-out success of 2021’s August Bank Holiday weekend event. Junction 2 being who they are will be bringing back some old favourites alongside rising stars within the electronic hemisphere.

On Saturday 27th August, stages will be hosted by Junction 2, fabric, HE.SHE.THEY and Black Artist Database. Tobacco Dock’s Great Gallery will feature the most relentless and primal techno that the scene has to offer. Opening the stage will be Theo Nasa, an artist without limits who perfectly encapsulates Junction 2. Up next will be a B2B between techo-punker JASSS and hardcore maestro Gabber Eleganza. They will be followed by one of the most anticipated performances of the festival, an exclusive B2B between ANNA and Palestinian hero Sama’ Abdulhadi. Finally, closing the stage will be Drumcode founder Adam Beyer, who is promised to deliver another of his iconic Tobacco Dock sets.

Ahead of hosting the nighttime programme of Junction 2: Inner-City, they welcome fabric to Tobacco Dock for the very first time to host the terrace on both days. Londoner Kiimi will open the stage, followed by Layla Benitez, who will take you on an escapade of uplifting beats with dark undertones. Italian duo Fideles will bring the audience to an euphoric state, as they take over the stage with their mesmerising music. Following them will be one of the most acclaimed duos in the scene, Adriatique, before they hand over the reins to Junction 2 favourite Maceo Plex.

The Cavern will be soundtracked by He.She.They as they invite a carefully curated line-up. Self-expressionist Wax Wings will bring his relentless arsenal of bass driven, vocal laced techno. Electronic experimental artist Dasha Rush will follow up, before handing the decks to Detroit icon DJ Stingray 313. Bringing the best from the Motor City, the masked maestro will keep proving why he’s one of the best in the game. Closing the stage will be one of the most exciting names in underground music Anfisa Letyago, who shows no signs of slowing down.

Black Artist Database will host The Loft, featuring free-spirited London-based DJ Aqwea, Circoloco wonderkid Isaac Carter and JADALAREIGN, one of New York’s most esteemed DJs.

On Sunday 28th August stages will be hosted by Junction 2, fabric, Origins and Foundation FM. The dancefloors are set to be just as intense, as Tobacco Dock hosts day 2 of Junction2: Inner-City. Berlin-based talent Patrick Mason will bring his listeners on a buoyant and energetic sonic journey. Following up will be Airod, bringing his own strain of techno-soaked sets. London’s scene leader Dax J will follow, in his Great Gallery debut. Headlining the stage will be Amelie Lens, who will take Tobacco Dock by storm with a barrage of selections enriched with her signature vocals and rave-infused sound.

fabric returns on the Sunday to again host the Terrace. This will feature a special b2b between TLT members Uakoz and Anna Unusyan. One of the youngest DJs on the lineup, IMOGEN is set to deliver a mix of fuzzy electro to punishing techno. Expect her to not hold anything back. Ukranian icons Daria Kolosova and Etapp Kyle will feature on a relentless B2B, which will take the audience on a hypnotic journey. They will be followed by another hugely anticipated B2B, this time between one of the scene’s fastest rising stars Kobosil and German maestro Clara Cuvé. Finally, Klockworks head-honcho and Berghain resident Ben Klock will close the stage and no doubt push the Terrace’s system to its limits.

Origins will host The Cavern, as we see London based vinyl enthusiast KT and her stripped back house opening the stage. Origins founder Armând will follow up, before giving the reins to MARRØN and his renowned sets of African rhythms and mesmerising techno. Delivering a highly anticipated live set will be Karenn, formed of UK staples Blawan and Pariah. From edits of infectious classics to improvisation mayhem, this is one set not to be missed. Closing the stage will be one of the biggest B2Bs that London has recently seen as Helena Hauff and Héctor Oaks join forces. They shut down the cavernous dancefloor with what’s promised to be one of the most energetic sets of the weekend.

Finally, London’s very own Foundation FM will host The Loft with a line-up composed of some of the Capital’s most esteemed fastest rising stars. Vanessa Maria, Malaika, Emerald and rising UK talent Heléna Star are set to soundtrack this stage with some standout sets.

Fabric LondonFlexout Audio and Planet V, if that combination alone doesn’t get you excited then you may as well stop reading now and get to know. When I saw the announcement of this FabricLive event back in December, I couldn’t contain my excitement. A Planet V takeover of Room 1 and Flexout Audio takeover in Room 2, two rooms packed with some of the finest talent the Drum & Bass scene has to offer.

In Room 1, Planet V brought the heat with a seriously hefty line-up consisting of Drum & Bass royalty; Jumpin Jack Frost, Ed Rush & Optical, Bryan Gee, Bladerunner, Paul T & Edward Oberon, Riya, and new boys on the block MozeyDisrupta and SL8R. Room 2 was all about Flexout Audio, a label that have been pushing the boundaries of the darker side of Drum & Bass and they didn’t disappoint with a hugely stacked line-up. Topping the bill in room 2 was Workforce followed by VisagesBredren, Amoss, Arkaik, Fre4knc, Bassi, and Charlo with Joe Raygun and Charlie Brix on hosting duties.

We arrived at fabric at around 11:30pm and headed straight for room 1 to find our feet and what better way to do so than with one of the V Recordings top dogs, Jumpin Jack Frost. Moody reese basses, thick snares and jungle breaks, Jumpin Jack Frost was serving up all the V Recordings flavours. There’s something about big jungle breaks and fabric that just naturally go hand in hand together. So loud but so crisp, the perfect setting for a proper Planet V showcase.

Up next was the Flexout Audio head-honcho himself, Bassi. Flying the flag high for stripped back minimal Drum & Bass, it was clear his USB wasn’t shy of a dub or two. Tearing room 2 apart, Bassi served up a whole host of unheard material, which I can only assume a lot of we will be seeing on Flexout throughout 2022. Bassi was teasing us with tracks like ‘Amoss & Visages – Long Island’ and ‘Arkaik – Boxed In’, setting the stage perfectly for Workforce who was ready to take over.

Stage set and crowd ready, Workforce stepped up and kicked things off with a beautifully dark atmospheric intro, infused with crunchy jungle breaks and thumping 808s. Now if you know anything about Workforce, you will know all about his time as Spectrasoul and just how good he really is. Synonymous for his ridiculously good production skills and expertly written tracks, Workforce really is of the highest calibre when it comes to Drum & Bass. In true Flexout style, Workforce fiercely worked through a selection of darker stripped back numbers dropping a whole host of dubs. Chopping and changing effortlessly between tracks, Workforce dropped in the odd liquid track including his recent release ‘Forever’, a soulful piano-led anthem, to keep things fresh.

Taking over from someone like Workforce is no easy feat, but Flexout crew member Amoss didn’t show any signs of struggle. The time was now 2am and the darkness of room 2 had taken over, I’m sure the lights were literally off at points, and Amoss was in his element. Synonymous with that Flexout sound, Amoss was intricately carving his way through the darkness with low, wide subs, tight drums and those moody vocals which dominate the dance. Amoss was gracing us with even more unreleased music and if there’s one thing that can be said about the Flexout takeover is that 2022 is going to be a seriously big year for them and an even bigger year for Drum & Bass.

After taking a quick minute to catch our breath following Amoss’ monster set, it was finally time for the act that I had personally been waiting for all night, Visages. Made up of a group of French lads, Visages have been working tirelessly over the past few years gracing us with some of the best Drum & Bass we have heard and they’re finally starting to break through onto events all over the world. Fresh off a tour in New Zealand with Alix Perez and Monty, Visages switched up the night with some 140 in true 1985 fashion. Playing some of the most outrageous 140 I have heard in ages; Visages were wiping the floor of room 2. Once again, a whole host of unreleased music which I had only heard in mixes online, so it was unreal to finally hear it on a proper sound system. Seamlessly transitioning into Drum & Bass, Visages started the next part of their set with their track ‘Yalda’. Let’s be honest, unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll have heard this track an uncountable amount of times and every time without fail it hits just as hard as the first time you heard it. Rolling on getting darker and darker, Visages treated us to a play of their upcoming release on 1985 Music featuring Strategy on vocal duties. A proper Visages tune, dark and gritty with some stupidly good vocals from Strategy. The Visages’ boys have been busy in the studio and are another example of what’s in store for 2022.

The last set of the night saw us take a trip over to the unintentionally neglected Room 1 where Mozey was in charge. I first heard about Mozey back in 2020 when he debuted on Serum’s label Souped Up and since then has been a regular on the label. Fierce, aggressive, murky is exactly what springs to mind when I think of Mozey’s set. The energy was unrivalled, and credit must be given to the Room 1 sound system, it’s hard to think that it could get any better than room 2 but boy it was. Mozey gave us a taste of some new music but also drew for a whole host of his released catalogue including his tracks ‘Night Buzz’ and of course ‘Back To Funk’.

There was still one more set to go in each room however it was time for us to call it a night but what a night it was. Hats off to the Flexout Audio crew and of course Planet V. Two ridiculous line-ups that did not disappoint. Here’s to the next FabricLive.
