BOg – Corso/Juno 99 inc. John Digweed & Nick Muir remix (Bedrock)

I always find releases like this are at their best when everything falls into place and find their own synchronicity. BOg is a super talented producer in his own right, his sound compliments John Digweed’s Bedrock label perfectly. Throw into the mix a John Digweed & Nick Muir remix and everything synchronises in sound and feeling, you know something special is about to happen.

If you’re tuned into this sound BOg needs very little introduction. His releases on ATLANT, Visceral, Watergate, Hoito, Plattenbank, Diynamic and Innervisions speak for themselves, his melodic, progressive sound borders techno, with simple yet perfectly crafted elements that are clear and punchy, making energy packed tracks that lift roofs without resorting to commercialism.

The opening track ‘Corso’ is exactly that, seven and a half minutes of beat-perfect, groove-laden, peak-time fodder primed to detonate with an unusual combination of head down, dancefloor werk and hands in the air breakdown. Nothing here is unusual, it’s solid bass, synth riffs, counter melodies but when that break kicks at about six minutes, oh boy that groove is immense.

‘Corso’ is an obvious choice for John Digweed & Nick Muir to remix. The synths lend themselves to the Bedrock sound. What they make of it is much more, in complexity and form they have created a beast of a remix that is right up there with the best of the classic Bedrock offerings. The whole remix is dripping with wall-moving bass, utilising the melody in a clever way to give the track real feeling and a huge groove. There are lush pads, big drums, and a canyon drop that brings it all together. The production value are stunning with the detail oozing from every pore. Make no mistake this is a big track.

Juno 99′ brings the EP to a close with another melodic, synth-led club offering. It’s a dark room, strobe-up, big bassline worker. Programmed in the right place this is another stormer.

Perhaps there is nothing ground-breaking here, but who needs ground-breaking when you have beat-perfect club smashers. There are three eminently playable tracks here, all of them will rock the place. Consistency is a key component of Bedrock, here they have achieved it in spades. a stand-out release.

Score: 9/10
