Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday we were prepping our inaugural podcast from Ed Banger founder Busy P for your listening delights and here we are today at edition number 500! (Insert cheering and whole load of whooping!)
We’ve had some great guests since launching the series back in 2009 but today we’ve got a mix that is up there with the very best of them with a special 4 hour mix, that’s a massive 64 tracks from one of the founding members of Drum & Bass, a pioneering DJ and ‘Mercury Prize’ winning producer… Mr Roni Size.
2015 was a huge year for Roni Size and Reprazent, with headline slots at some of the biggest festival across the UK and Europe, it proved there is still the desire to see the original live band in Drum and Bass doing what they do best. 2016 saw original junglists, Roni Size and DJ Krust relaunched their seminal label, Full Cycle Records earlier this year. Full Cycle Records was born in 1994 (previously known as Roni and Krust’s Full Circle Records), and quickly became one of the most important jungle – and then drum & bass – labels of the early ‘90’s. The Bristol-based label issued now classic releases from the likes of Size, Krust, Die, Suv, D Product, Flynn & Flora, and beyond, before closing in 2009.
For the rest of the summer you can catch Roni Size and DJ Krust at South West Four on August Bank Holiday Weekend, but in the mean time he’s delivered our 500th podcast… so enjoy!
Sum up this podcast in 11 words…
Often as dj when you play in front of 20,000 people every weekend and sometimes, 3 times a week you only get to play a certain type of the record. So in ten words I would describe this mix as “A blend of tunes that I would play to my friends”
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
This is a question that’s I’ve had to think quite hard about and from my description of my mix i find it pretty impossible to pick just one so ill pick my top 3.
1.Unfished sympthony – Massive attack vs Roni Size
2.To Infinity And Be Gonellung
3.Back to the the start – D-Product
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I guess that fact it has 60 odd tunes and its 228 Minutes and 48 seconds you do the maths
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Last night Sunday August the 14th myself and DJ Krust presented full cycle to the masses at Boomtown Festival and it was amazing to be part of the festival season on a beautiful sunny day.. Thank you boomtown
What have you got coming up?
Lots going on for Roni Size more touring, music coming out on my labels Full cycle and Mansion sounds and with a Reprazent Album to come out my focus will be to start performing live very soon .
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
It takes a team who have the same vision to be able to progress forward and I’m all about moving forward so if you feel you have the same vision as us with artwork and design ideas, media experience or musical ideology then hit us up on our socials at Ronisizebristol and Fullcyclerecords.
