You heard a lot of great music from Ed Hoffman and Barbara in 2023 and they’re not showing any signs of stopping in 2024. After a crazy weekend in Palm Springs with Barbara and her friends, the pair created ‘Feet Money’ via Dirtybird paying tribute to all the hustlers out there (ain’t no shame, do your thang) and empowering folks to use their assets for good.
While diverse in his repertoire, Ed’s sound is grounded in his ability to bring his distinct flavour of energy to each track he writes, harnessing unmistakable childlike energy that evokes equal parts self-confidence and silliness. It’s that liberating feeling you get when you’ve released yourself from the shackles of expectations, and being able to express your true, inner colours without fear of judgment. For the San Francisco-based DJ/Producer, community is half of the equation, and what drives him to inspire and help as many future artists to also pursue their dreams.
Ed has released music on Fantastic Voyage, Data Transmission, OFDM, Bomb Ass House, Schmuzik Records and Wildcard Records. He also runs a monthly radio show, which is syndicated on Data Transmission, called ‘House of Ed’.
The artist known as Barbara is a multi-hyphenate and when exploring her musical work it’s a true “choose your own adventure” – you can select one or several paths to join her journey. As a DJ and performer, she began her career several years ago splitting her time between New York City and San Francisco, beaming her love of deep house, Italo disco, tech house, and progressive house out on to dancefloors, and exposing audiences to new underground cuts and rare classics. After some recent sets, Barbara’s energy can still be felt in the following venues: in NYC – Super Ingredients, Elsewhere, Laissez Faire – in SF, for Midway’s New Years Weekend festival, Fresh Start, and in Milan Italy at Linea Milano and East Market. Her sets infuse her ever-growing catalogue of released and unreleased Barbara productions, and many of her appearances also include a live vocal performance of songs. She’s never static, always moving through dance and broad smiles during her sets.
“While on our shopping session, my best friend tried on this insanely stunning vintage YSL fur coat, way out of our price range and we all were like “gurrrrl you neeed that feet money”. I sat down with Ed as soon I got back from the trip and Feet Money was born.”
Barbara
The track in true Ed and Barbara style is bouncy and sassy with cheeky lyrics inspired by true life events and a driving kick and bass, placing itself right at home within the Dirtybird sound. Prepare yourself for a punchy warehouse-focused offering that is set to kick off the new year in fine form.
