Barbara Nicole and Ed Hoffman once again combine on their ‘Shiny Objects’ EP due out on Good Crazy.

On this three-track EP, Barbara Nicole and Ed Hoffman continue their salacious streak of supplying dancefloors with wildly fun bangers that show off Barbara‘s ability to bring forth deft tongue-and-cheek anthems.

“Pretty Little Things” is an angular track that cuts right to the core with heavy doses of acid house, from a thick bassline to big organ stabs. Big drums in here: crisp snares and a heavy kick surround Barbara Nicole’s wicked laugh and a cold as ice vocal delivery as she serves up a sharp portrait of those who obsess over “Shiny Objects”.

“Ed and I wrote Shiny Objects in a period of intense transformation (post my divorce). I was rediscovering myself, feeling confident and sexy, for the first time in a long time and in turn that started to attract a lot of eyes. These songs are powerful statements of female empowerment and freedom of sexual expression. We should be able to dress how we want, dance where we want, say what we want and do whatever we want without feeling pressure or judged. If we’re going to be sexualized and treated like objects I better be the one owning my own narrative.”

Barbara Nicole

“Desire”, the second track in the set, leans into punk house led by Barbara’s study of a woman who’s “expensive, designer” and from there that catchy vocal hook is instantly etched in your mind as Ed Hoffman’s dynamic yet glitchy percussive builds swirl around Barbara Nicole’s mantra.

“Kitty Wanna Bite” is a thumping West coast house track that ascends higher and higher before this set of “Shiny Objects” closes out, with Barbara Nicole offering up a provocative top line to complete this seductive selection of house cuts.

Barbara and Ed Hoffman’s tech house with a twist of electro-funk anthem about BFFs – Best Friends who together can rave and rage and do it all with effortless style and class.

The Good Crazy debut from the dynamic duo of Barbara and Ed Hoffman – who has already made a splash with their infectious “Feet Money” (Dirtybird) and “Hey Gurl Hey” (Data Transmission).

From Barbara – “My Best Friend” is inspired by my actual best friend, Simone. We met each other years ago when I DJ’ed her birthday that she shared with a friend of ours in Barcelona. We didn’t know then just how close we would become. Mindchatter brought us back together years later and then after we burned together we knew we’d be sisters for life. I can be a lot and she jokes that I’m her wife, firstborn and BFF.

Simone even inspired the name of my new label on Paradise Worldwide, Good Crazy, because together we’re unhinged. In fact, I don’t have too many people in my close circle who are “hinged” and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m pretty sure “My Best Friend” producer Ed Hoffman would agree which made him the perfect collaborator on this track. Simone and I have grown so much together through our friendship and really are blossoming into the best versions of ourselves. I’m a better person and kinder to myself because she’s in my life.

And fun fact, she can not only rave and rage but she is incredibly smart. She’s an animal ophthalmologist—a veterinarian who specializes in treating eye disorders! Get you a bff who can do it all and with effortless style and class.”

We premiere ‘My Best Friend’ on Data Transmission today, check it out here and grab it on Beatport.

You heard a lot of great music from Ed Hoffman and Barbara in 2023 and they’re not showing any signs of stopping in 2024. After a crazy weekend in Palm Springs with Barbara and her friends, the pair created ‘Feet Money’ via Dirtybird paying tribute to all the hustlers out there (ain’t no shame, do your thang) and empowering folks to use their assets for good.

While diverse in his repertoire, Ed’s sound is grounded in his ability to bring his distinct flavour of energy to each track he writes, harnessing unmistakable childlike energy that evokes equal parts self-confidence and silliness. It’s that liberating feeling you get when you’ve released yourself from the shackles of expectations, and being able to express your true, inner colours without fear of judgment. For the San Francisco-based DJ/Producer, community is half of the equation, and what drives him to inspire and help as many future artists to also pursue their dreams.

Ed has released music on Fantastic Voyage, Data Transmission, OFDM, Bomb Ass House, Schmuzik Records and Wildcard Records. He also runs a monthly radio show, which is syndicated on Data Transmission, called ‘House of Ed’.

The artist known as Barbara is a multi-hyphenate and when exploring her musical work it’s a true “choose your own adventure” – you can select one or several paths to join her journey.  As a DJ and performer, she began her career several years ago splitting her time between New York City and San Francisco, beaming her love of deep house, Italo disco, tech house, and progressive house out on to dancefloors, and exposing audiences to new underground cuts and rare classics. After some recent sets, Barbara’s energy can still be felt in the following venues: in NYC – Super Ingredients, Elsewhere, Laissez Faire – in SF, for Midway’s New Years Weekend festival, Fresh Start, and in Milan Italy at Linea Milano and East Market. Her sets infuse her ever-growing catalogue of released and unreleased Barbara productions, and many of her appearances also include a live vocal performance of songs. She’s never static, always moving through dance and broad smiles during her sets.

“While on our shopping session, my best friend tried on this insanely stunning vintage YSL fur coat, way out of our price range and we all were like “gurrrrl you neeed that feet money”. I sat down with Ed as soon I got back from the trip and Feet Money was born.”

Barbara

The track in true Ed and Barbara style is bouncy and sassy with cheeky lyrics inspired by true life events and a driving kick and bass, placing itself right at home within the Dirtybird sound. Prepare yourself for a punchy warehouse-focused offering that is set to kick off the new year in fine form.

We premiere  ‘Feet Money’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it here  – https://promo.edhoffmanmusic.com/feetmoney

Firing off the back of the debut Data Transmission release from Archie B comes West Coast producer Ed Hoffman with a two-track EP titled ‘Good Time’ on 29th June.

Ed Hoffman has been playing music since he was 10 but found his passion with dance music while in college. Ed travelled the globe for many years after going to countless festivals & clubs leading him to the broad style of house & techno he creates today. He is always smiling and embracing all things weird. Ed brings this energy into every mix, set, and song that he writes. When he’s not writing music, you can find him biking or making sure his disco birds get fed.

On the two tracks EP comes ‘Good Time’ where he teams up with KOOP and the low-slung club melter ‘Sunday Morning Acid’, he chats about both tracks.

Good Time – Towards the end of 2020, I had decided to move from California to Pennsylvania, to get a change of scenery and move in with Koop. We were stuck inside most of the time during the first winter of the pandemic with not much else to do besides create music. We were inspired to put together a fun summertime track, for a time when we could start celebrating with all of our friends and family again.

Sunday Morning Acid – The original idea of the track came together in early 2021, on a cold winter morning. I was up early, dreaming of warmer weather and playing with my Roland tb-3, when the track’s base started to come together. The inspiration for the track came from some of the incredible ’90s acid & breakbeat house tracks, and it’s felt throughout the song.

Ed Hoffman & KOOP ‘Good Time/Sunday Morning Acid’ comes out on Data Transmission on 29th June – you can download / stream it here.
