Defrostatica is kicking off a fresh new series, shining a spotlight on rising producers who are blending jungle, footwork, juke, and techno to create their own unique club sounds at 160 BPM. ‘160 Vol. 1’ brings together Bristol’s Portway, teaming up with Slinki, along with Hone Sound from Copenhagen and Team GB from Manchester.
Portway, originally from London but now based in Bristol, is known for his shimmering chords, deep basslines, and sharp sound design, all tied together with rolling percussion and big, atmospheric vibes. His DJ sets cover a huge range, anywhere from 80 to 200 BPM. Slinki, on the other hand, brings a faster spin on Bassline and Grime, infused with footwork energy. He’s been getting serious support from artists like Sherelle, Samurai Breaks, and Sam Binga, and with releases on some major labels, his future looks bright.
Hone Sound is a project by Henrik Christiansen and Morten Wilken, where they explore everything Drum & Bass – from the genre’s roots to where it’s evolving now. They pull inspiration from dub, techno, jazz, and ambient to craft their own fresh sound from their Copenhagen studio.
Team GB, one half of the DJ/promoter duo Juke Joint, has a deep love for Chicago footwork, but lately, he’s been focusing on full-time Ableton training. His hard work is paying off, with releases getting played on NTS, Rinse, Threads, Das Booty, and Reform Radio, among others.
Defrostatica’s roster is packed with talent, featuring names like Arcane & Jon1st, Sun People, Sinistarr, Yorobi, wrk.dat, HomeSick, Detroit’s Filthiest, Schmeichel & Shane Lizard, Greazus, Anna Morgan, BSN Posse, Pablo Dread, DjBadshape, Jermaine Soul, and Utelka. The Leipzig-based label keeps blurring the lines between jungle, footwork, and juke, while each of their artists brings their own unique sound and culture to the table. It’s all about diversity, inclusivity, and the way these influences mix and grow – that’s what Defrostatica is all about.
