Yes it’s that time of year again when the movers and the shakers of the electronic music industry descend upon the White Isle to plan the summer ahead and beyond at IMS. Heading into its eighth year, May 20th sees the increasingly influential summit return to Ibiza’s Hard Rock Hotel for what looks set to be their biggest and most insightful event yet. This being the 8th incarnation of IMS Ibiza we thought we’d pick out 8 highlights from the week.
Dalt Villa Parties
The now legendary Dalt Vila events, return to offer a unique opportunity to party at a UNESCO world heritage site with music provided by some of the biggest names in dance music. This year is no different with Thursday night line-up including Solomun, Luciano, Damian Lazarus and Sven Vath whilst Friday’s festivities includes performances from Rudimental, MK and ZHU to name but a few.
Hard Rock Ibiza as a venue
With the move last year from the Ibiza Gran to the then newly opened Hard Rock Ibiza came a host of massive improvements. The layout of the hotel and larger conference rooms made for easier networking, the panels were as ever spot on and the WIFI worked seamlessly.
A Night with Black Coffee
On Wednesday evening, after the first full day of meetings, panels and hubbub, we’ll then unwind for an evening with highly respected South African DJ Black Coffee who is hosting a delegate only showcase event at Ushuaïa’s After Dark venue. With further support coming from Andy Baxter and the always superb Kaz James, you’d be mad to miss this one.
Sankeys Opening Part 2
Now a firm fixture on the island, Sankeys will enjoy its fifth year on Ibiza this season and to celebrate half a decade on the White Isle they’ve really pushed the boat out, ramping up their soundsystem and lighting game by bringing in a brand new VOID and Pioneer systems to the Basement and Lab and improving on the lighting.
Our pick for the best of the opening parties is Part two, which comes on Thursday 21st May and features last year’s residents Duke Dumont and King of the Basement and ViVA boss Steve Lawler. They’ll be joined byFrench G-house pin-ups Amine Edge & DANCE and a host of other capable hands including Tribal residents Greg Vickers and Jozef K as well as the original Colors residents Matt Jam Lamont and Sam Holt plus Andy Baxter and Dave Lubin.
Keynotes
It simply wouldn’t be IMS without a series of impressive Keynote speeches and this year the three day event looks to have assembled their strongest roster of speakers as it welcomes the likes of Judy Weinstein who will talk alongside legendary DJ David Morales since the sad passing of their friend Frankie Knuckles. Other highlights include an interview with all conquering, all female duo Nervo and an address about Africa an as emerging market including the upcoming Lagos Music Conference in Nigeria.
Panel Discussions
Time for a debate. IMS sees the great and the good discuss the issues facing electronic music today and across the 3 days we always get involved with the various panel discussion which delegates get involved with. Potential highlights for 2015 include Wednesday’s ‘Taking back control of your content’ with the guys from the impressive AudioLock, Thursday’s B. Traits hosted ‘State of Mind’ which follows on from recent BBC documentary about where do drugs actually come from and how to make sure its not effecting your club night and Friday’s ‘Turning your Followers in to Fans.’ We’re also sure that the irrepressible Seth Troxler take aim EDM over the course of the event. He always does. Keep it locked here for the inevitable headlines he makes doing so when he does here.
Networking
Being a friendly bunch, we’re always looking for fresh opportunities for partnerships with friends old and new. As mentioned previously the Hard Rock Ibiza, has plenty of great areas to meet and network with other delegates and is key to IMS’s enduring success. We also love a party so each days end of day mixer around 6pm is the perfect chance for us to grab a drink beside the pool and get our network on!
Breakfast at Passion
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and whilst we don’t know who ‘they’ are we’re most certainly inclined to agree so start your day in the right way with a little trip to Passion for breakfast, they offer some great pick me up juices for those that hit it a little too hard the night before. Whether you’re on a health kick or looking for a full english to keep you going throughout the day, there’s nowhere on the island we’d rather eat as the sun rises.
