Fresh: Niven – Dragonfly EP

Share

The hotly-awaited sophomore EP on Big Cargo Records from an enigmatic sound-traveller, Niven has long been diligently bubbling away at the very centre of East London’s thriving underground electronic music community and now he’s making his musical mark.

As the co-founder of the Dalston club SPHERE, Tom Niven sits right at the heart of London’s experimental electronic community and with Niven his is a world of careful, enchanted sonic experimentation; bringing together ambient synths, organic bass thumps and graceful glitches, with his own well-placed vocals softly whispering crucial yet subtle emotional overtones.

The result evokes the jostle, push and wonder of everyday human life from the inside of a head that daydreams of alien encounters and faraway planets, all wrapped up in a empathic warmth that says “we’re all stuck on the same ride”.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
