London’s own jungle trailblazers, 4am Kru, are about to make waves with their debut album, ‘Incognito Rhythm’. Following their recent remix of Papa Levi’s ‘Ribena’ and an electrifying set at Reading & Leeds Festival, this album promises to showcase the raw, high-octane energy that has made them a standout act in the jungle scene.
After turning heads throughout the 2024 festival season—appearing at standout events like Outlook Origins, Boomtown, Boardmasters, Reading & Leeds, The Blind Tiger, Parklife Waterworks, Boundary, and delivering a legendary Saturday night performance at Glastonbury’s Temple Stage—4am Kru are known for their wild, 1993-1994 inspired jungle sound. Their post-lockdown shows have been especially thrilling for those who experienced their first live rave during isolation.
The duo’s journey began in indie bands whilst sharing a studio in Tottenham, where they quickly realised there was no way a traditional DJ set could contain their high-energy live act. Embracing the chaos of their physically demanding performances, they’ve pushed their limits with chipped bones and back injuries, to deep finger taping and wearing shoes designed for skipping rope. Their creativity extends to their gear too, with a Roland SPD SX drum pad that’s as hefty as a tank delivering their signature basslines. Their upcoming UK tour in October is set to amplify their immersive and disruptive sound even further.
Their latest single ‘Ribena’ breathes new life into Papa Levi’s classic ‘Militancy’, following up the powerful release of ‘Wutt’ in July. ‘Incognito Rhythm’ pulls from a wide array of influences, merging 90s jungle with elements from obscure R&B like Angela Bofill, Janet Jackson, and Prince, early hardcore bands like Hüsker Dü, offbeat Scottish folk, and even classical music. It’s a snapshot of the duo’s nocturnal world over the past two years—a time capsule of tracks that have echoed between midnight and 4am. With ‘Incognito Rhythm’, 4am Kru deliver an extraordinary debut that’s a razor-sharp, face-melting journey through their explosive live performances.
