Miami-based duo Black V Neck step up for the Data Transmission Podcast, bringing their unmistakable bouncy, bass-driven sound to the series. Known for their rowdy grooves and playful energy, Ian and Julian have become key figures in the underground house scene, earning widespread recognition through releases on Dirtybird, Repopulate Mars, and Sink or Swim.

The podcast arrives just as Black V Neck drop their latest single, ‘Check My Brain’, the first release celebrating Dirtybird Records’ 20th anniversary. Referencing their 2019 label hit ‘Sex, Drugs, Alcohol’, the new track blends tech-heavy builds, deep house breakdowns, and AI-twisted vocals—all wrapped up in the duo’s signature high-energy, hook-laden production.

“We felt we had to go back to our roots. This type of record is a mix of our bouncy basslines, catchy hooks, with a twist of freshness on the breakdown. We couldn’t think of a better label than Dirtybird which encompasses those three things.”

Black V Neck

Since first appearing on Dirtybird’s Birdfeed in 2018, Black V Neck have become mainstay artists on the label, delivering standout releases like the ‘Mouth Music EP’ (2019) and ‘Bounce EP’ (2020). Now, as they return to the label for its milestone anniversary, they’re also gearing up for a massive year—including a performance at Dirtybird’s upcoming show at The Den in Portland on February 8th.

Today, he joins on the podcast for the first time. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here.

Miami natives Black V Neck are the perfect fit for those who enjoy music that is inventive, stimulating and original.

Their name is a playful jeer towards an ever evolving yet over saturated industry. For far too long there have been records, attitudes, and even wardrobe choices that have been duplicated and reworked in the hopes of fitting in; Black V Neck strives to create their own path through their eclectic, intuitive, and original works without creative restrictions.

Black V Neck is best known for their distinctive, balanced take on Tech House and underground sounds (which appeared on Shanghaied recently), and their tenacity in creating tracks that resonate with their audience on both the dance floor and through their headphones. Aside from their studio work, they’ve also been booked at respected venues in South Florida like Treehouse, Do Not Sit On The Furniture, and closed out the main pool deck on Groove Cruise with an extended four hour set.

They join our Spotlight Series today.
