Jess Bays – as well as being a personal favourite of ours here at DT – is a name synonymous with SNEAK, the weekly house night at London clubbing institution, XOYO.

As resident DJ at SNEAK from the very beginning 10 years ago, Jess Bays has seen it all, and boy has her career rocketed since. She went on to host a weekly show Capital Dance and release on such credible labels as Defected and Good Company, with notable releases including ‘Real Love’ with Kelli-Leigh and Temptation with Poppy Baskcomb.

Jess Bays at SNEAK at XOYO

Ahead of the mammoth 10 Years of SNEAK at XOYO on 29 November 2024 – its first ever Friday night slot at the venue – we caught up with Jess to look back at her time at SNEAK to find out what tracks have smashed the dancefloor over the past decade.

Crank up the volume and get stuck in below to Jess Bays’ Top 10 SNEAK tunes off all time.

Armand Van Helden – I Want Your Soul

This record has always been a staple moment in my SNEAK sets at XOYO. It’s usually something I play towards the end of my sets to really give the crowd a big moment towards the end.

Flashmob – Need In Me

One of my favourite classic deep house records of all time. The big vocal moment in the breakdown just sets the dance floor on fire.

Patrick Topping – Forget

Something from my earlier days sets at XOYO for SNEAK. It’s an absolute anthem from Patrick Topping and it works every time.

MD Express – God Made Me Phunky (Jess Bays Remix)

This remix from my back catalogue is always something that works, especially with the younger crowd. It’s really blowing up on TikTok, so they recognise it super well from there. I love it so much for the original record by Mike Dunn is as old as me! And now the remix really helps educate the next generation of ravers to music that they not necessarily have heard.

Sammy Porter & Jess Bays – Devotion (Jess Bays VIP Mix)

Here’s my VIP edit of a record I wrote with my lovely friend Sammy Porter back at the very start of my production journey. It’s a classic vocal from Soul2Soul that we managed to get cleared. I love it! I’ll defo be spinning it on the SNEAK 10th Birthday.

Weiss – Feel My Needs

This track is a proper summer anthem that always brings an injection of feel-good vibes to any dance floor. It’s always on my playlist for SNEAK parties!

Roberto Surace – Joys

Easily one of my favourite records from the last few years. It really had a big moment when it was released via Defected a few years ago and the bassline on it paired with a great sample hook just works every time.

Nightcrawlers – Push The Feeling On (MK Dub remix)

One of the records that really pushed MK to the top of his game and I struggle to find a raver or music enthusiast that does not LOVE this piece of music!

MK & Sonny Fodera – One Night (ft. Raphaella)

When two heavyweights collide only special things happen! Two of my favourite DJ/Producers in the world only means magic is going to happen and ‘One Night’ really does achieve that.

Beyond Chicago x Majestic x Alex Mills – Million Dollar Bill

One of the greatest Whitney Houston vocals ever brought into the current times by three of my very talented friends teaming up. Alex Mills’s huge vocal talent on this one just bring the Beyond Chicago lads and Majestic’s production to an extra level!

Catch Jess Bays at SNEAK 10 Years alongside Gem Precious, Jay Forster, Janika Tenn and more at XOYO on Friday 29 November. For tickets visit  xoyo.co.uk

Prepare for an unforgettable night of Drum & Bass as genre godfather, Ray Keith, takes centre stage at XOYO Birmingham on Friday 29th November 2024 with ‘The Renegade’.

This is not just an immersive show; it’s a celebration of over 30 years of groundbreaking rave anthems, reimagined by a full live band with special performances from Jungle icons, Ragga Twins and MC Juiceman.

After their sold out shows at one of London’s most iconic venues Jazz Cafe, and Shangri-La Glastonbury’s venue Lost Horizon,  Ray Keith and his band ‘The Renegade’ now prepare for their XOYO Birmingham debut.

As they work their way through an extensive catalogue of old-school classics including the likes of ‘The Chopper’, ‘Terrorist’ and many more, the night promises an unmissable hybrid experience, combining live musicians, DJ and MCs, to mark a three-decade-long legacy.

Ray Keith said, “This live project captures the spirit of Jungle and D&B for me. You’ll hear the classics of the Ray Keith catalogue past and present but we’ll also be throwing in some nods to the foundations of dance music; Rare Groove, Acid House, Reggae, and Soul MUSIC”.

Known for his revolutionary remix of Orbital’s iconic record, ‘Chime,’ and his influential label, Dread Recordings, Ray Keith is arguably one of the most seminal foundations of Drum & Bass and Jungle. With roots in the UK rave scene of the early 1990s, Ray quickly established himself as a master of the decks, blending soulful rhythms with hard-hitting basslines.

His breakthrough came with the iconic ‘Terrorist,’ which became a definitive Jungle cut.

Over the years, Ray has continued to innovate, nurturing countless artists and tracks that push the boundaries of Drum & Bass. Known for his evocative and passionate sets, Ray Keith remains a beloved and inspirational figure, connecting deeply with fans and aspiring artists through his dynamic performances and rich musical legacy.

‘The Renegade’ featuring Ray Keith is just the tip of the November iceberg at XOYO Birmingham in a month that sees live performances from Newton Faulkner, Alfie Templeman, Noahfinnce, Kofi Stone and Bonny Light Horseman, while its club programme is flooded with top-tier talent, including Fish56Octagon, 4am Kru, Mozey, Cafe Mambo Ibiza, Cirque Du Soul and more.

Since its launch in September 2023, XOYO Birmingham has quickly become a standout destination for unforgettable clubbing experiences driven by the best in electronic dance music.

Building on the prestigious legacy of its London counterpart, XOYO Birmingham has carved out its niche within the city’s lively nightlife. With five unique spaces and the ability to accommodate nearly 3,000 guests, XOYO Birmingham delivers an unmatched experience created by and for the people of Birmingham.

Drum & Bass Icon Goldie returns to XOYO London for Metalheadz Takeover https://datatransmission.co/event-news/drum-bass-icon-goldie-returns-to-xoyo-london-for-metalheadz-takeover/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 21:05:31 +0000 https://datatransmission.co/?p=71639 Spearheaded by legendary label founder Goldie, Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions aims to echo the vibe of the original seminal club night.

With many citing Goldie and his trailblazing Metalheadz nights at Hoxton’s Blue Note as one of the most significant events in the evolution of drum & bass and jungle music, it’s no surprise that those monumental parties are to be honoured at the capital’s foremost bass music venue, XOYO London, this August.

Building on his unforgettable 2021 XOYO residency, cultural icon Goldie is set for a night to remember in the depths of Cowper Street with Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions on Saturday, 17th August.

One of the events making up XOYO’s eclectic ‘Summer Saturdays’ series, and spearheaded by legendary label founder Goldie, Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions aims to deliver a clubbing experience to echo the vibe of the original seminal club night. Joining Goldie, fellow DnB royalty Grooverider will bring his unique sonic blueprint to Shoreditch’s most popular basement.

Adding even more weight to the lineup, Diverge also features, accompanied by the vocal talents of Cleveland Watkiss and Medic MC, connecting the crowd with the DJs in a way that only seasoned drum & bass MCs can.

The Metalheadz nights at Blue Note are remembered as pivotal in the history of drum & bass, alongside Rage and Speed. Their significance can be attributed to a mix of factors: drum & bass was in its nascent stages; the Metalheadz label had attracted some of the best young producers; and the event’s timing on a Sunday drew out typically reserved beatmakers.

Led by the dynamic Goldie, who was on the cusp of taking the genre worldwide, the night was marked by the absence of traditional MCs, intense dubplate rivalries, unforgettable DJ sets, and an unrivalled appreciation of the music. Now the originators come back together under the Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions at XOYO London to reignite that passion.

After groundbreaking promoters LWE kicked off XOYO’s ‘Summer Saturdays’ series in August with Chicago house legend Jamie 3:26, followed by Ceri’s sublime deep house and garage, Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions on 17th August is the perfect bridge into the second half of the series.

Still to come is the immersive deep house and minimal techno sounds of Joshua James presents Pump on 24th and the hot blend of traditional house and cutting edge electronic production as Charlie Boon’s ‘Departures’ club brand debuts at XOYO in collaboration with COGO on 31st.

XOYO London is the home of quality electronic music and unforgettable nights this summer.

Hailed as one of London’s longest-standing clubbing venues and a stronghold for captivating bass music events, XOYO London continues to set a precedent for top-tier event programming in the capital with its celebrated Friday residencies.

The latest act in line to take the reins at the Shoreditch late-night hub is revered trio SASASAS, formed of MCs Shabba D, Harry Shotta and DJ Phantasy, who step up to host a run of four Friday night shows throughout March (8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th).

Starting the year with a bang, XOYO London opened its arms to renowned pirate radio station Kool FM and its new owners, RINSE, in January, warming up London’s clubbers for another year of highly sought-after artists and an intimate, immersive and underground clubbing experience in the heart of the capital. Now, XOYO has confirmed critically acclaimed DnB powerhouse SASASAS for the March Friday night residency.

Following the return of their Halloween ‘Scarefest’ in October, Shabba, Shotta & DJ Phantasy are back in the Cowper Street basement along with a carefully handpicked selection of established names and emerging talents, including TNA, Basslayerz, MTM (Eksman & J Mulla), Team Drumz Showcase, Brockie, IC3, Nicky Blackmarket, Northbase, Ragga Twins and many more.

Since coming together in 2014, the award-winning Drum & Bass supergroup SASASAS has stood at the forefront of bass music culture with an ever-growing base of fans and support worldwide. As the group has evolved, navigating the tragic loss of members MC Stormin and Skibadee, it has remained committed to its roots in early DnB, Jungle and the synchronicity between MCs and DJs that has carried the genre into the modern-day. Delivering authentic, nostalgia-influenced and contemporary dancefloor experiences in many of the most respected club spaces and festival stages worldwide, Shabba, Shotta and DJ Phantasy continue to fly the SASASAS flag, honouring the legacy of its founding members and celebrating one of dance music’s cornerstone genres.

XOYO’s legendary residencies have become a talisman in London’s richly diverse, world-renowned clubbing culture. Its list of previous hosts reads like a roll call of bass music royalty, with the likes of DJ Hazard, Andy C, S.P.Y, Randall, Goldie, Fabio & Grooverider, and Alix Perez merely the crest of an endless wave of quality hosts, incredible guests, and support acts to have lined those shows throughout the years. Combined with a never-ending commitment to provide the capital with a safe, inclusive and authentic clubbing experience, it’s easy to see why XOYO London is revered in UK clubland. Now SASASAS step up for their XOYO residency and, together with a line up overflowing with talent, are sure to create more ‘I was there’ moments in DnB folklore.
