Issey Cross has rightfully placed herself as one of the dance world’s most exciting new talents. The singer-songwriter has been smashing it with her effervescent falsetto set to raucous 175 bpm drum ‘n’ bass. Notably on 3 crossover UK Top 40 chart hits, including ‘I Could Get Used To This’ with Wilkinson, ‘Oh My’ with Luude and Moby, and her No.19 debut solo, ‘Bittersweet Goodbye’.

Issey’s vivacious spirit has earned her the intrigue of bass lovers and pop connoisseurs alike. 2024 was packed with live dates spanning a debut tour of New Zealand and Australia, performing in front of 15,000 partygoers at Shy FX and Wilkinson’s takeover at Drumsheds, and a main stage appearance at the mammoth MADE Festival 10th anniversary.

Issey Cross will perform at Rise Festival’s 10th anniversary

Festival season isn’t over yet for the young talent with the ever-changing hair colour. Issey Cross now prepares to head to the French Alps for Rise Festival’s 10th birthday bash where thousands of ravers are in for treat of global DJ talent – Sammy Virji, Chase & Status and Hedex to name a few – and a week of snow, music and adventure.

Ahead of the event, we caught up with Issey to ask what tracks have soundtracked her year and what would make the ultimate apres-ski playlist. Find out her choices below.

K Motionz & Songer – Beamin’

This song is so fun to listen to and just gets me hyped up to go outtttt!

KETTAMA – Pretty Green Eyes (Sunset Ibiza Mix)

This song reminds me of good times in the summer with friends hanging round the pool in Ibiza.

Fred again.. x The Japanese House x Scott Hardkiss – backseat

This makes me feel sad and happy at the same time. I love songs that give you that feeling. Also, I love The Japanese House! I remember listening to this on the way back from a show this summer and looking out the window reflecting on how much has happened this year.

BL3SS x CamrinWatsin- Kisses (feat. Bbyclose)

I find this song sooo fun to listen to and it’s so catchy! Banger.

Monrroe & Emily Makis – Never Too Old (Friction Remix)

This one really takes me away in my mind and feels so euphoric to listen to. Every time I hear it, it makes me wanna scream the words!

Nia Archives – Cards On The Table

I bloody love Nia. Such a big inspiration to me as a woman and I absolutely how artistic this song feels to me.

Sammy Virgi – If U Need It

I heard this song played everywhere this summer at festivals and it still pops off now. Love Sammy.

Joy Orbison – flight fm

Something about this song is so satisfying. I was quite late to hearing it, but I remember being on the way to a festival driving past Stonehenge and saying to the driver, turn this upppp!

Charli xcx – Sympathy is a knife

For some reason this song feels so nostalgic to me and gets me in my feels.

Issey Cross – Sleepwalking (feat. Songer)

I love this song as I wrote it about a hard time in my life so it’s one of my more emotional songs that I love performing live. It’s also been so fun performing it along with Songer this summer at festivals.

Catch Issey Cross at Rise Festival, 7-14 December at Les 2 Alpes, France. For more info, visit www.rise-festival.com

Born and raised in a small suburban town in Connecticut Lux Groove always had a passion for music at a very young age.

During his early teenage years he got his first set of turntablesand started to teach himself to DJ, heavily influenced by DJ’s such as Jazzy Jeff, A-trak, Craze, and Qbert he quickly he become engulfed in the turntablism scene, doing showcase performances and entering local DJ battles as well as the DMC’s. He began to experiment with other genres of music which led him into house music and wanted to be more than just a DJ. Very influenced by Justin Martin and other Dirtybird Record members Lux Groove began to start producing and after a short period of time had his first EP called “From The Back” which is now signed to Worthy’s Anabatic record label. Releasing with record labels such as Dirtybird, This Ain’t Bristol, Perfect Driver, and Hot N Heavy recordings has proven that his dedication and success will continue.

Lux Groove has performed along side and shared the stage with Kill Frenzy, Worthy, Mark Starr, Daniel Dubb and Sebastien Leger and continues to produce bass driven forward thinking house music and also his live performances are sure to rock any crowd, putting to use his heavy turntablism backgroundmixed in with his style of bass house music.

We welcome him to the Mix of the Day series and expect to hear much more coming from Lux Groove.

AE1
Despite sounding like a butler from the Home Counties, Alfred English is a Los Angeles-based producer bringing big, ballsy bass music to Canadian label, Infinite Machine.

The new label manager of Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum‘s Ultramajic imprint, English knows a thing or two about forward-thinking electronica. His productions suggest a penchant for grime and techno; driven by twisted synths, they are as harsh and unforgiving as they are ultimately danceable.

Featuring remixes from previous IM-affliates WWWINGS, along with ETEVLEH, Tsvi & Luru and Patrick Brian, Alfred English’s 8-track Piston EP is out April 29th. Head to the Infinite Machine Bandcamp to grab a copy.

Bengapressimage7
Following the exciting news that Benga would return to music this year, the dubstep pioneer has released a new track called ‘Power’.

The track is taken from Benga’s 3-track Future Funk EP – set to be self-released on February 26th (Pre-order).”This is electronic Benga music that I believe in and I can’t wait to play it at Fabric,” says the producer, and it seems he really can’t, sharing the track via SoundCloud ahead of his appearance at the London club’s Tectonic takeover tonight. Last month, Benga revealed another track from the EP titled ‘Make Moves’.

“It’s been two years and I have grown a lot, and I now know what’s important: music,” explains Benga. “I’m back and I think my sound is the most ‘me’ it’s been since Diary of an Afro Warrior and I’m super excited to play it and reconnect with all of the people who have supported me. Let’s have a good year!”

Stream ‘Power’ below and catch him alongside Pinch, Mumdance, Acre and Ipman at fabric tonight. Tickets here.

IYDES artwork
DT favourite Infinite Machine gears up for its first release of 2016 with a Debut Transmission from Iydes.

Following the producer’s debut via GETME! last year, Iydes joins the Montréal label for a 4-track self-titled EP, featuring a remix from fellow Londoner, Endgame. The record showcases Iydes’ diverse abilities, whilst always keeping an eye on the dancefloor.

Opener ‘Leaving Thrice’ presents something of a sleeping giant; deceptively cascading in with what could be the intro to an Ibiza Classics collection, the track dives head first into a foundation-shaking percussive assault.

Stream ‘Leaving Thrice’ below and head over to the Infinite Machine Bandcamp from February 12th to grab a copy. Catch Iydes playing alongside Seb at their next Tropical Waste party at The Waiting Room on release day, also featuring TOXE, MM, Mind:Body:Fitness and Endgame. (Tickets)

Butlins in Bognor Regis. A place that conjures images of family holidays and rainy disappointing school trips where the most fun was had on the backseat during the journey there. Not somewhere you would associate with cutting edge dance music and World class DJs? Well you would be wrong.

The Bugged Out Weekender celebrated its fifth year by setting up shop for three days in Butlins for a good old fashioned dance filled shindig last weekend with acts including Bigger Than J.E.S.u.S, Joy Orbison, Skream, Jackmaster, Eats Everything, Catz ‘N Dogs, Hannah Wants, Julio Bashmore, Heidi, Bicep, Jasper James, Erol Alkan and Groove Armada all playing over the weekend.

Bugged Out is one of the UK’s longest running club nights (around 22 years) and Bugged Out Weekender reflects its clubbing history and pedigree with a programme consisting of all the best in dance, techno and house music. Relatively new acts and established acts alike. The dance scene is pushing the boundaries like no other genre of late and the Weekender capture this.

Playing for her first time at Bugged Out Weekender DJ Barely Legal was one of the stand out new acts. Firstly warming up the crowd at the Beach House before playing the Centre stage later.

“This is my first time at Bugged Out Weekender. This is my first time at Butlins. I’m really excited to be here as they’ve really mixed it up. You’ve got your house and people like Jackmaster, they’ve also got bass and Mumdance and Novelist representing grime, so acts you wouldn’t normally expect to hear at Bugged Out so it’s very exciting.

LUKE DYSON PHOTOGRAPHY 3939

I’m only here for one night but looking forward to seeing Kurupt FM, they’re a little gimmicky but play really good tunes and sick garage so that will be good. I always enjoy watching DJ EZ. I have a lot of love for Hannah Wants too so I’ll catch her set. Groove Armada. I didn’t know they were playing tonight and that will be sick. Close One is another one I really rate of course I’ll be seeing me!”

This year should be big for Chloe with sets at festivals like Hideout and Lost and Found. She’s also planning on launching her own music label and throwing some big parties, “I want to do some parties. Something different and not just a rave. I’ve got some fun ideas in mind. Hopefully by the end of the year those will be popping”.

Over the weekend there were some immense sets and truly special moments. The title for set of the weekend would have to go to Catz ‘N Dogs. They played an hour and 45 min set that would of felt perfectly at home in techno mecca Berghian of Berlin. Sumptuous pulsating techno bringing the crowd up and down. It was truly a master class in how to DJ and manage the audience. It even inspired a few people to take their tops off.

LUKE DYSON PHOTOGRAPHY_2058

A slew of other notable moments of the weekend came from Skream’s “secret” evening set next to Burger King. Forsaking their Whoppers, people streamed into a room next to the fast food chain and upon entering it was abundantly clear why. Skream was on the decks (which were covered by a huge old iPod installation) and had the room rocking. He later went onto to do the same on the Centre stage with Jackmaster, Armand Van Helden, Eats Everything and AME following suit.

Groove Armada, Heidi, Bicep, Jasper James, DJ Barely Legal and many many others also excelled and held the jubilant revellers in the palm of their hands. Bugged Out Weekender is a fast paced and action packed few days. From the get go you have pre parties in chalets, amazing artists playing every night. Super fun pool parties during the afternoon, amazing DJs playing at little spots inside the Sky Pavilion and Relentless Beach House before amazing headline acts, Artwork’s Art House and after parties turn into the next day and then you go again. You may need a few days off work the following week but it’s worth it.

LUKE DYSON PHOTOGRAPHY_4130

Rounding off the weekend was another BOW newcomer and all round nice guy Jasper James. Fresh from playing his weekly residency in Phonox Brixton, the Glaswegian star (and Jackmaster’s flat mate) took to Reds and showed why the masses turn up to see him every week.

“Friday I had the night off so caught up on some much needed sleep, watched some tv, watched some celebrity big brother! Saturday I was at Phonox which was actually really good. It was one in one out by about 1am. I had my friend Josh down from Glasgow who was DJing with me for the first time there. It was wicked and I really enjoyed it. Now I’m at Bugged Out and hopefully will have a good set tonight.

This is my first time, I only got here a few hours ago. I’ve heard all about Butlins and had good reports about last year from Jack and others who have been raving about it for years, so wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

I’m on after Artwork so hopefully will catch the last bit of his set, then The Black Madonna is on after me, then Bicep so I’ll hang about till the end. To be honest I don’t know what I’m going to play till I walk into the room and assess the situation really. I’ve got a rough idea what I want to play. I was planning on going a bit deep but people might want party tunes so until I arrive I won’t really know. I just play tunes that I like really and try to play that at the right times in the right situations. I guess that’s being a DJ though isn’t!?”

Tickets compared to other weekend festivals abroad with this calibre of acts are reasonable and include entry and accommodation from shared chalets to plush hotels. Plus the Redcoats have been exiled for the weekend like crimson clad lepers so don’t worry about those fun enforcers. You might see them walking about town all dishevelled and hapless. Don’t make eye contact. They’ll feed off your jubilation like ravenous nosferatu.

LUKE DYSON PHOTOGRAPHY_3476

Other activities on offer beside night time revelry include the sub tropical fun at the Splash World, bar Rosso, Skyline stage, bowling alley, rave karaoke and The Beach House. Plus Burger King and Papa Johns for any evening snacks and hung over treats throughout the day.

So as you may have guessed we can’t think of many better ways to start the year than a jaunt to the Bugged Out Weekender. Unless you’re fortunate enough have snagged a trip to BPM in Mexico you won’t see a line up as impressive anywhere else in January. Yes, Mexico might be sunnier and have better beaches but what it lacks in palm trees Bognor makes up for in convenience, price and sheer fun. Those willing to brave the cold are bonded like brothers in arms and the atmosphere and people are something special. As the gold confetti exploded over the crowd as Kerri Chandlers set came to an end on Sunday night/Monday morning you knew you had been part of something fantastic.

So what are you waiting for? Bognor 2017 beckons.

Don’t be fooled by the title, Huddersfield’s S-Tee can, and definitely will, play bass to lethal effect.

One half of garage duo Andy Jay & S-Tee, the producer steps out on his own to become the latest edition to boutique London label Club Soda Records – joining a small but impressive roster that boasts the likes of Funkystepz and Woozee.

S-Tee’s 3-track EP offers a selection of dancefloor killers, but pick of the bunch for us here at Data Transmission has to be the title-track. With a tight percussive combo and grimy low-end, ‘Cant Play Bass’ will have feet shuffling and faces screwed for the duration.

Fans of pulsating bass house will be be far from unlucky when this one drops on Friday 13th November. Pre-order the Can’t Play Bass EP here now and get the VIP version instantly, plus check out clips of the other tracks via the Club Soda SoundCloud. For more from S-Tee follow the links at the bottom of the page.
