UK DJ and producer, Ian G, is on a mission to revive piano house; the classic house vibes of the 90s that we all know and love but brought bang up to date with a modern twist.

An inspiring character with a career built on resilience, creativity, and an unshakeable passion for music, Ian G returned to the scene after a short hiatus to pursue his true calling; the timeless melodies and energy of piano house. Performing at such iconic London venues as Ministry of Sound, EGG and Studio338, Ian can command the decks and captivate crowds, making him a fixture in the capital’s clubbing scene.

Ian G

Ian G’s piano house revolution is already making waves with his latest single ‘Diamonds’ on Perfect Havoc. In collaboration with Ruff Loaderz, Diamonds saw an impressive wave of early editorial support from Apple Music (DanceXL & Future Dance Hits) and Spotify New Music Friday (UK), proving this sound is more than just a personal fave, but a genre with mass appeal.

For every artist out there, each has a personal collection of tracks that define the key moments of life, the tracks that when played evoke a vision, a scent or an emotion that shoots them right back.

We caught up with Ian G to take a personal look into the soundtrack to his life.

The Track That Got Me into Dance Music : Livin’ Joy – Dreamer

This is the track that truly got me hooked on dance music. Whenever I hear it, I can’t help but smile, it’s just one of those tracks that lifts my entire mood. If I’m in a club or anywhere with a dancefloor, it gets me up and moving. It’s the one track that has always had that power over me and still does to this day.

The Track that Inspires me Daily: Chapter 9 – Roller Coaster

This is one of the first tracks that made me fall in love with piano house. To this day, it takes me straight back to my roots and reminds me why I’m so passionate about bringing this sound back. The feeling I had when I first heard this track is what I want to give back to the industry; pure energy and joy, through music. Finding out later that the person I now produce with created this track (Julian – Ruff Loaderz) is a dream come true. We’ve since become great friends.

The Track that Defined my First BIG Gig: Short Silm – Never Thought

My first big gig was at Ministry of Sound in 2001, playing in the Baby Box. During my set, Dean Wilson came into the DJ booth and handed me this vinyl, saying, “You have to play this record. I’ve just been given this by Jeremy B, who’s playing in the main room!” So, I dropped it, and the crowd absolutely loved it. It was one of those moments that’s stuck with me ever since.

The Track that Reminds Me of Childhood: Dire Straits – Sultans of Swing

This track always takes me back to my childhood and reminds me of my parents. It was one of those songs that seemed to always be playing in the background, shaping my early connection with music. Even now, it brings back those moments and reminds me where my journey with music began.

The First Track I Ever Dropped in a Club: Freak Nature – Free (Soundscapers Dub)

When I first started DJing, I was a warm-up DJ for many years. One of the tracks I’d use to get the floor warmed up was “Free (Soundscapers Dub)” by Freak Nature. This track became a bit of a signature for me during my warm-up sets. It was slightly different from the norm as it has a unique energy that sets the tone for the night.

The Track That ALWAYS Makes me Cry: Samuel Barber – Adagio for Strings

From watching the American war film Platoon in 1986 as a teenager and hearing this piece for the first time until now, it never fails to move and affect me. There’s something so powerful and emotional in the way it builds; it’s almost impossible not to feel it deeply. It’s a track that captures both sorrow and beauty, and every time I hear it, it stops me in my tracks and makes me reflect.

The track that Defined a KEY Moment in my Life: Ian G – Have Your Lovin

Producing “Have Your Lovin” and having it signed to a label (Cleveland City) the very next day was a huge personal milestone for me. It marked the moment my journey as a DJ and producer truly reignited, giving me the drive to follow my dream and passion at a later stage in life. This track is a personal milestone, but it’s also a reminder that it’s never too late to chase what you love, whilst inspiring others to do the same.

Independent London-based electronic imprint Perfect Havoc continues its growing relationship with rising Scottish talent Ros T with the addition of his latest single, ‘Can Of Worms’. It’s the perfect follow-up to his well-received debut album, ‘Teach Me,’ which landed on the label in April, garnering big-name industry support and a #1 spot on iTunes Electronic Albums chart.

‘Can Of Worms’ may be Ros T’s most profound work to date.

As was evident through the fourteen tracks on his album, there’s no lack of depth in his ideas, and his latest single is a further testament to that.

Leaning heavily into the extremely popular realm of leftfield/alternative dance music, made famous by the likes of Joy (Anonymous), Logic1000, Fred again.., Barry Can’t Swim, DJ Seinfeld and many more, ‘Can Of Worms’ and its instant charm, steered by dusty, upbeat grooves and an enslaving vocal topline, is flooded with emotive and cathartic nuances from start to finish, perfectly highlighting the sheer quality of production capability in Ros T’s wheelhouse.

Hailing from the Isle of Skye and now based in Glasgow, Ros T is a dynamic young DJ and producer bringing an eclectic mix of catchy disco grooves and deep, dark electronic sounds to the electronic music scene.

His unique style has earned him the support of heavyweight industry figures like Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Fatboy Slim and The Martinez Brothers, and he has received recognition from DJ Mag and BBC Introducing among others.

Ros T’s ‘Can Of Worms’ is out now on Perfect Havoc. Download/stream it here: https://rost.lnk.to/canofworms.

You can download/stream the track here.

Stephani B’s journey has been nothing short of impressive. Her debut solo single, ‘From Paris To Berlin,’ gained massive traction with support from BBC Radio 1 and DJs like Don Diablo and Oliver Heldens. Known for her dynamic live performances that blend DJing, live drumming, and sampling, Stephani has already mesmerized audiences at iconic venues such as Ministry of Sound and Egg London. She’s set to light up stages at Tomorrowland, Victorious Festival, and Manchester Pride this summer.

As a LIPA graduate and ambassador for Roland’s SPD-SX Pro Sampling Pad, Stephani B’s musical prowess is undeniable. Her performance videos have captivated nearly a million followers on Instagram and TikTok. Her debut single ‘Sober (La Da Dee)’ with Movada, featured on Love Island UK, further solidified her presence in the music industry. With her recent signings and collaborations, Stephani B is poised for an explosive ascent in the music world.

Join us as we dive into the mind of this talented DJ, drummer, and producer, exploring her inspirations, creative process, and what’s next on her musical journey.

Hey Stephani B, welcome to DT. Can you introduce yourself to anyone who doesn’t know you?

Hey, thanks for having me! I am a DJ Drummer & Producer. Currently travelling around the UK and overseas for gigs and festivals during these summer months! Also, a bit of a social media guru and have built my socials up through music content.

    Where are you based currently?

    I am based in Manchester.

What inspired you to get into music?

I was inspired from a young age to get into music. I remember having guitar & piano lessons from the early age of 8 and just continued to play many instruments from then. High school was when I really got into it and started playing the drums. I wasn’t very ‘academic’, so to speak, and my dad really championed me in learning the drums and going through all my music grades. I was always really inspired to follow my dream, and I am still today. It makes it easy when you’re so passionate about everything music.

Your new single ‘Rhythm Is A Mystery’ has recently come out on Perfect Havoc. How did you land on re-working this rave classic?

I really loved the original of this record from K-Klass, especially the drum arrangement. I wanted to do a more upbeat version for my sets and to give a fresh take on a great classic!

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I think the first acts I saw live were disclosure and how they integrated the live element into their live shows. I remember watching them at Parklife festival when I was just old enough to go, and I was so inspired by their show. I have always been inspired by those bringing something unique to the music industry, and the likes of Sheila E and Jack Garrett were also massive inspirations that helped shape what I do today. I also loved Avicii and how he had such a unique style in the EDM world, one that continues to last today and one that will last forever; he was such an inspiring producer and has helped shape my music creations.

How would you best describe your sound?

I would best describe my sound as dance with tech house influences with flavours of the old school rave in the electronic dance realm. I like to push the boundaries within the dance genres as I am inspired by so much music.

What does a typical day in Stephani B’s life look like?

I usually try and start my day with a coffee wherever I am and when I am at home and not on the road gigging, I usually spend most of my time in my home studio. I have my DJ decks, laptop, and drums all in there, so I do lots of practice, production and songwriting throughout the day. I also film a lot of content for social media in there and create different edits, mashups and remixes to post for fans online.

What is your best advice to anyone starting out in the industry as a producer?

I think the best advice is to keep creating music. I know that’s probably a given, but to actually put your music out. If you’re struggling to find a label home for your music, release it through your own name and share your works. I think it’s always a good idea to post content online as well; social media these days can have such an impact, which is definitely worth seeing how your productions go down. Collaborating with other producers is also a great way to develop your production skills and get early tips on developing.

What are your hobbies outside of music and production?

I actually don’t have many other hobbies outside of music as it’s hard to find the time although, I do play other instruments like guitar for a hobby though and also like going on runs with the dog.

Are you working on any new material?

Yes I am, all the time! Got lots of originals in the pipeline as well as the odd remake that might get an official release. There are a couple of collabs I’ve got coming next so I’m really excited to continue to get my music out.

What can we expect from you in the next year?

You can expect more releases, some on other labels, and lots of festivals and events, possibly some more overseas next year!

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

I’ve actually had a lot of highlights of my career so far, but performing at Tomorrowland in Belgium on the Freedom stage this summer has to be the highlight! It’s been an ultimate goal of mine for years to eventually get the chance to perform there, so it was a complete dream come true!

Carrying on an impressive run of diverse dance singles, London-based independent, Perfect Havoc, welcomes House music royalty in that of Todd Terry as he teams up with Estonia’s Janika Tenn for a massive club-focused release titled ‘With You’ on 12th July.

An amalgamation of Todd and Janika’s commendable back catalogue of releases on some of dance music’s most prolific labels, including Hot Creations, In House, Stress Records, Nervous, and many more, ‘With You’ comes in hot with chunky Tech-inspired grooves, striking melodic injections, and a captivating vocal hook. Its insatiable energy and euphoric nuances make it a prime candidate for packed dance floors and peak-time dance radio.

Estonian-born DJ/Producer Janika Tenn, relocated to London over a decade ago, where she began a multi-faceted journey towards the sound she has refined today. Described as groovy tech/house, and sometimes laced with darker energy, one common theme is that a Janika production always has an emphasis on percussion, rhythm, and mood.

Success has come in signings to such crucial labels as Cr2, Safe Music and Hood Politics, with a flood of A-list support from Loco Dice, Chris Lake, Martin Ikin, and many more. Fulfilling potential outside the studio has also been positively progressive for Janika, where she’s stepped into the booth at many significant events in her native Estonia, as well as at industry gems Fabric, Ministry of Sound and Cuckoo Club.

Brooklyn-born Todd Terry is a pioneering house music producer who defined New York house in the ’80s by blending classic disco, Chicago house, and hip-hop. His 1988 track “I’ll House You” popularised hip-house, influencing the UK rave and hardcore scenes.

Terry achieved significant success with his 1995 remix of “Missing” by Everything but the Girl, which sold 3 million copies, and continued to produce hits like “Keep on Jumpin’” and “Something Goin’ On.” Four decades on, Todd Terry remains at the top of his game, with the rolling success of his vinyl only label, Freeze Records, and his continual output of both original and revamped older material. Simply put, Todd Terry is one of the most prolific producers around today.

With the release of ‘With You,’ Perfect Havoc makes a firm statement about its commitment to curating an ever-growing collection of larger-than-life releases from some of the world’s most respected names and fast-rising talents. Listen to it here: https://perfecthavoc.lnk.to/with.you.

The post Kokiri bares all with ‘In My Head’ release on Perfect Havoc appeared first on Data Transmission.

    ]]>
Kokiri, one of Liverpool’s finest house music producers is back on Perfect Havoc this April with new single ‘In My Head’.

It follows a standout 12-months for Kokiri with releases on such vital labels as SIZE, Spinnin’ and the disco-tinged release on Perfect Havoc ‘One Thing’ which saw support across the board from Arielle Free on Radio 1 to playlist adds on KISS and Capital Dance.

Now dropping his most personal track to date, with accompanying artwork designed by Kokiri himself, ‘In My Head’ conveys a world of emotions as the artist opens his heart unlike never before.

The new single, ‘In My Head’ is a complex house affair, with a beautiful flurry of synth stabs and samples, woven into a throwback piano loop. The vocals and soundscape combined convey the personal and private feelings of Kokiri at the time.

Kokiri said, “It was a challenging time of my life dealing with my mum’s terminal illness and feeling a bit lost in my music career. As I’m not particularly open about my thoughts, writing music about how I was feeling felt almost like an escape from what was happening. The track portrays my state of mind; some were good days, some were bad. The chaotic main synth juxtaposes the calm breakdown with pads and vocals. And the vocal, “it’s only a nightmare(s), it’s just in my head,” felt fitting given my circumstances.”

The artwork for ‘In My Head’ is equally as personal for Kokiri. Inspired by the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Charmaine Chanakira, which resonated with Kokiri for their chaotic form and underlying storytelling, Kokiri turned his hand to design.

“Making the artwork over several sessions with Late Night Agency felt pretty therapeutic,” Kokiri explained. “The Pacman and ghosts represent using computer games as a means to escape the real world. The FL Studio logo symbolises making music to keep my mind occupied. The dancers at the top of my head signify my brain never switching off. The giant XO represents how I’d sign off cards to my mum, and the smiley face represents that no matter what was going on in my head, I’ll try and stay happy.”

There’s lots more in the pipeline from Perfect Havoc for the rest of the year with tracks landing from PS1 & Adam Griffin, Tobtok & Oliver Nelson, Stephani B and more. Now in its 9th year, Perfect Havoc continues to push the envelope of crossover house music and to build on over 10 billion global streams, six UK Top 20 singles and multiple platinum, gold, and silver awards.

The iconic vocalist Angie Brown has had a glittered career. The south Londoner has worked with a list of artists from every corner of the music sphere, including Lisa Stansfield, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Heaven 17, Midge Ure, Grace Jones, Neneh Cherry, Desmond Dekker, Fatboy Slim, Chaka Khan, and The Stereophonics, and that’s only scratching the surface.

Angie got her big break with Bizarre Inc. in 1992 on the now timeless single ‘I’m Gonna Get You’. It peaked at No.2 on the UK Official Charts, stayed inside the Top 10 for eight weeks and hit the top spot of the American Dance Charts. Following primetime TV appearances on Top Of The Pops, Good Morning and even the Big Breakfast with Zig and Zag, Angie Brown’s stamp on music culture was sealed.

    Angie Brown

This powerhouse of a woman has never stopped since. While she remains an in-demand session and featured artist – as well as a DJ spinning at some of the coolest hangouts around the world – Angie Brown is a solo artist releasing several tracks under her own steam.

She’s just dropped the modern-house classic ‘Giving Me More’ on Perfect Havoc alongside ManyFew and Eddie Craig and has signed a deal with Armada Music where the releases are coming thick and fast.

Expect plenty more tracks from the songstress throughout 2024 in collaboration with the legend Joe Smooth and the mysterious duo WH0. With her beautifully distinctive and soaring voice, it’s always immediate from the first note when Angie Brown is on duty.

We caught up with Angie Brown to delve into her past to unearth 5 lesser-known facts and 5 tracks that she couldn’t live without. Grab her new single ‘Giving Me More’ here.

    5 Facts

    1. My mother was 42 years old when I was born. My parents – Alma and Alfred – had issues trying to start a family, and it wasn’t until they immigrated to the UK that they were able to receive the right treatment. I finally arrived as a happy and healthy baby to overjoyed parents on 13th June 1963.

    2. I was always obsessed with singing to the point of getting into trouble at school for singing in class. Whether I was performing in the annual school musicals or dueting along with The Osmond’s or The Jackson 5 on the radio – I had to sing! When I was 16, my mother allowed me to have singing lessons a fabulous and renowned London singing teacher, Annette Batam. Over the years she taught me fantastic singing techniques and ways to preserve my voice – which has naturally matured – to become the vocalist I am today. Nettie is now 91 and we remain friends to this day.

    3. After leaving Southwark College with four O-levels, I auditioned and got into St Catherine‘s Drama School in Guildford. It was a small and exclusive private school. I only completed one year out of the two year course – I realised that the acting side of show business wasn’t for me and so I devoted my life to a career of singing.

    4. I was more than just a backing vocalist on Mark Morrison’s worldwide smash hit ‘Return Of The Mack’ – I should’ve been credited as a guest performer and writer! I improvised the middle 8 – the spoken, sexy voice? Don’t get me wrong, I have no regrets as I was honoured to be a credited as a backing vocalist on such a successful track that has had over 3.5 billion streams.

    5. I appeared on the single ‘Move Your Body’ by Ownboss & Sevek on Spinnin’ a couple of years back. It’s had over 3 billion streams, it won an EDM Bassline Award, it is the official signature choon for F1 PlayStation 2023 and was the fourth most played song in the world that same year.

    5 Tracks

Todd Terry Ft. Martha Wash & Jocelyn Brown – Keep On Jumpin’ – Logic Records

A timeless, dance floor-filling classic that will never ever die. It’s a work of art, which is true to its 90s house production. The combination of Todd Terry, Martha Walsh, and Jocelyn Brown – some of the originators of Chicago house – created this unforgettable feel-good song.

M-Gee feat. Mica Paris – Body Swerve (Club Mix) – Swing City Records

No words are needed, but I really have to go there with this bad bwoy. Bodyswerve is house music at its finest. Crafted with sheer love and total respect for real house music. Mica Paris’s vocal delivery is literally on fire, which results in her holding no prisoners. It is a real crowd pleaser so if you want the party to get started, this one will never let you down!

JVKE – Golden Hour (Anton Powers Remix) – JVKE

This literally reaches into the core of my soul. A forever-song that really makes me smile, and always makes me feel positive about life. It’s a beautifully crafted masterpiece that floats gloriously through the atmosphere. It lifts me up to a higher place bathed in golden light and is always enjoyable. To say this song is a feel-good song for me is an understatement! It’s just blissfully delightful, happy and shiny, in every way.

Joe Smooth – Promised Land – D.J. International

A hands-down, stand the ‘test-of-time’ undeniable classic. This choon is for ‘real’ lovers of house music ONLY! Joe’s timeless song is a truly authentic, piano-led, Ibiza anthem. It has an original Chicago house groove flowing throughout the production and an uplifting and heartwarming, big vocal chorus to boot! It blatantly resonates with every cross section of house music lover. It’ll always be a forever popular ‘must-have’ choon in my record box and that of every single house DJ out there!

    Tori Amos – Professional Widow – EastWest/Atlantic

This is a musical masterpiece of a classic house choon. It shows no mercy in its relentlessness that makes you fall head over heels in love with its fabulous, fresh ‘n’ funky house groove. Professional Wido, always strikes a chord with me as this song was well ahead of its time. This is music that is a work of art, which will never be forgotten.
