Kevin Knapp returns to Plump Records with his ‘Rockstar’ EP

Kevin Knapp returns to Plump Records with the label co-founder serving up a trio of hot house cuts across his new EP, ‘Rockstar’.

The voice of iconic house records for over a decade while also serving up a never-ending run of full-bodied production hits via labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Cuttin’ Headz or Hot Creations, it is safe to say that DJ, producer, vocalist and label boss Kevin Knapp has grown to become one of the most loved talents within the genre.

Co-founder of Plump Records alongside partner-in-crime and partner-in-life Hutchtastic, the Oakland- based talent is at the helm of a unique project pushing and supporting the underrepresented and marginalised voices within the scene, with the body, queer and sex-positive label welcoming Longstocking, Baby Weight, Demuir, Mason Maynard and more. Returning to the label following fresh heat on DIRTYBIRD alongside Andreas Henneberg, he steps out solo this time around with a heavyweight trio of tracks for the dancefloor across his ‘Rockstar’ EP.

The title cut is a helter-skelter ride through warping vocals, spiralling synths and twisting electronics above boisterous basslines for a lively, upfront effort. Next, ‘Feel The Real’ is another production loaded with energy, with the surging bass patterns operating like a tightly coiled spring that builds tension and suspense, before loading into a skipping snaking groove. Closing the show is the playful and groovy ‘Nonchalance’ – balancing bright melodies with heavy-hitting, sharp percussion to round things out with authority.

Kevin Knapp ‘Rockstar’ drops via Plump Records on 1st September 2023.

We premiere the lead track ‘Rockstar’ on Data Transmission, check it out here and grab it on Beatport.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
