Paper Dragon drop ‘Strawberries’ via Our Space

In anticipation of their upcoming EP ‘Amplified Nostalgia,’ the rising collective Paper Dragon delivers an explosion of joy with their 160PBM track ‘Strawberries’, released through Our Space.

Hailing from Bristol, Paper Dragon is a genre-bending collective that effortlessly fuses captivating old-school sounds with a keen appreciation for modern jungle and breaks. The group consists of core members Bruce Turner, Kris Burton, and Jonathan Savage, accompanied by Torsten Jensen on the keys. Together, their combined years of high-end production experience have led to collaborations with renowned artists such as U2, Kate Bush, Massive Attack, Rick Rubin, Brian Eno, Underworld, KOAN Sound, TC, Distorted Minds, Mura Masa, NAO, Mount Kimbie, and Fred V & Grafix.

Formerly fronted by Ruth Royall, nominated for ‘Best Vocalist’ at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards, Paper Dragon achieved success with EPs like ‘Birds of Paradise’ and ‘Circuits.’ After Ruth Royall pursued her solo path in the bass world, the collective took a short break from releasing new music. Now, they are back with a fresh perspective and a collection of jungle and breaks-inspired tracks that showcase their artistic prowess.

Having earned widespread recognition in the bass music scene, Paper Dragon’s single ‘Reach’ was honoured with BBC Radio 1‘s ‘Coldest Record’ title by Jeremiah Asiamah, and Clara Amfo featured it as the ‘Hottest Record.’ Furthermore, My Nu Leng supported their recent single ‘Holding On’ at Love Saves The Day earlier this year. Their collaboration with Grafix, ‘Forget The Rain,’ has amassed over 1 million Spotify streams and received extensive support from BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM. Meanwhile, their single ‘Be Free’ boasts nearly 2 million Spotify streams, marking a remarkable ascent for this talented electronic outfit.

Now, the group teases their most exhilarating EP to date, promising an immersive journey driven by raw breakbeats and remarkably powerful basslines. Drawing inspiration from the 90s anthem ‘Sweet Harmony,’ ‘Strawberries’ features nostalgic sample vocals and euphoric piano licks, reminiscent of an era transitioning from house to breaks and hardcore. At a brisk 160 BPM, Paper Dragon’s latest single strikes a perfect balance between old-school bliss and the impeccable production skills of three artists at the pinnacle of their game.
