“You know, it takes a lot of things to make this happen. We’re in Albania! Thank you to all the Albanian friends, family and strangers who’ve welcomed us into here.”

As the sun rose for the final time of the festival, MC Lowqui’s emotionally-charged words epitomised the Hospitality On The Beach 2022 experience. We were at a Drum & Bass festival in ALBANIA! It was a moment to take a step back and reflect on what this week meant for the scene.

Earlier this month, we witnessed history in the making with the return of Hospitality on The Beach for a third instalment. Whereas previously we knew the festival for its roots in Tisno, Croatia, this year the label took the decision to move to Dhermi, Albania.

‘Discover a new Drum & Bass holiday’ was the slogan Hospital used to describe the experience, and the festival lived up to that. The whole week felt like an intrepid adventure where the D&B community travelled in force to celebrate their favourite genre of music in an unknown paradise over six days. No one knew what to expect (apart from broken bodies at the end), but that was all part of the fun.

And paradise this festival was. From the blissful billing of talent including stage takeovers from DARKMTTR, Critical, AWOL, Spearhead, Soulvent, and Marky & Friends, to immense scenery with turquoise ocean and beach parties against the setting sun. While we have experienced Hospitality on a beach before, this was a different experience for fans and a fresh challenge for the label. Did everything go smoothly? No. Did it make for a memorable experience? Absolutely!

Anyone who went to Tisno will remember it as a small site where you could walk between stages in a couple of minutes. That wasn’t the case here. Instead of being centered on one resort, D&B was taking over an entire stretch of town filled with venues, restaurants, shops and accommodation. The music was spread across four stages. During the days, there was Yacht Club (a covered terrace sticking out over the sea) and the Cove (a pebbled beach hidden in a rocky alcove). Then at night, two more stages came to life. Empire (the grand main stage feeling like some Hawaiian resort) and Splendor (the closest resemblance to Tisno’s beach stage).

The opening night was like a warm-up with it being an all Yacht Club and Cove affair. Hospitality were in control of the Cove and it was a perfect start to the week with Stay-C, Degs, Keeno, Grafix and Pola & Bryson among those playing out. Despite feeling fragile from long journeys, energy levels were high. Even the security were down for the occasion – skanking out at the side of the stage. It was the words of MC Ruthless during Grafix’s performance that set the precedent for the following days: “All in this together. One family, one sound, one vibe.”

Hospitality on the Beach 2022

This feeling of togetherness carried through into Thursday – especially on the boat parties. Anyone who went to Tisno will fondly remember the moments the boats created. These boats didn’t disappoint either. This time, the stage was on the outside with full viewing coverage of the scenery around. It’s hard to explain just how magical the moments at these boat parties were. Sailing across the ocean with D&B providing the soundtrack – it’s what dreams are made of, right?

One of the best aspects of these parties is the unpredictability, and the Hospitality boat featuring Grafix, Keeno, Winslow, Lens, Slay and Dynamite, with Degs onboard as a guest, was a prime example. From people swimming up to the boat and Dynamite joking we were pirates and they could join our tribe for €1000, to the boat rocking so much Degs was holding the speaker in place, to an impromptu b2b2b2b breaking out with the boat not being able to dock due to choppy waters – Hospitality boat parties always entertain.

Hospitality on the Beach 2022

The same could be said for the rest of Thursday with V Recordings bringing their soulful sound to Splendor and Hospitality putting on a full-label showcase mainstage. But it was Thursday night that sprung a peculiar experience when the music cut off across the whole festival – just before Andy C was due on Empire. There was a feeling the festival was over before it had begun, with Hospital’s Chris Goss on stage explaining there was an issue with the local authorities. Thankfully, the music returned and Andy C was able to do what he does best – tear up the stage.

If anything, that moment hit home how powerful music is in uniting us, as the atmosphere afterwards was electric. This rolled on into Friday, where it felt like the whole festival cranked up a notch. The unofficial theme of the day was a homage to the greats. People who’ve created history for our scene, but also the ones who inspire others to do great. AWOL’s takeover at the Cove celebrating their 30 years in the game was a testament to this with the likes of Uncle Dugs & Navigator, DJ Rap & Carasel, DJ Storm & GQ and Grooverider & Ragga Twins providing a history lesson in chest-rattling basslines.

Despite not being the busiest stage with Critical and Spearhead takeovers elsewhere, the atmosphere was unique. People skanking hard and dancing without a care, cheering along to every drop – all with a big smile on their faces. It was a nostalgic taste of the early rave days.

While that was going on, Splendor was gearing up for a beautiful moment to round off Friday’s proceedings – LSB rolling out to the rising sun. While he may not be a historic great, there aren’t many in the scene who can do liquid like LSB, and that’s why the backstage area was filled with names including LTJ Bukem, Chris Goss, Hugh Hardie, Riya, Lens, Whiney and Etherwood. Usually, the crowds at graveyard shifts are minimal, but this one was packed. Like Robert Manos said on the mic, “We’re blessed to be here” listening to LSB roll out classics (apart from ‘The View’, surprisingly).

I initially questioned LSB being on at 4:30am, but when the sun came up and the colours of the sky danced to a D&B rhythm, it was incredible. There are not many times in life you’re happy to see the sunrise at a rave, but during LSB’s set, it was a blessing. Closing the performance with his and DRS’ ‘New Day’ was the perfect way to kickstart the weekend (after a few hours kip, of course).

It’s special moments like this that continued cropping up throughout the weekend. DJs going harder than usual. Selectors drawing for tracks they hadn’t played in years. MCs wheeling tunes who don’t like rewinds. People jumping on stage for unorthodox b2bs. It felt like there was something in the air.

You could say it was the blistering mid-30s Albanian heat sending people delirious, or you could see it as something linked to Hospital bringing D&B to unchartered territory. It was a moment, a vibe, a page for the history books, a sign of how far this small but powerful genre of music has come – and the artists were on board with the narrative.

Saturday in itself sprung some unique occurrences. Banger vs Clangers soundtracked the day with DJs stepping up and putting their productions to the judgement of a crowd armed with signs. Then at the night, you had Ivy Lab rolling out a rare liquid D&B set on the DARKMTTR stage with S.P.Y, Workforce, Skeptical and more.

Hospitality on the Beach 2022

But it was the celebration of D&B women that stuck out. Solah Live with Emma B on the decks at Cove, Kara supporting A.M.C on his boat party, Frenetic laying down a hectic set at Yacht Club, demonstrating why she is one of the best female selectors in D&B – this was a day celebrating the many awesome females we’ve got in this scene (even if not everyone sees it).

I’m not sure if everyone celebrated too hard on the Saturday, but by Sunday there were many tired bodies and weary heads – particularly on the boat journey to the fort party with DJ Marky, GQ, Kyrist, Children of Zeus and Charli Brix. This was an occasion to be excited about though – we were on the way to party in a historic fort as one of two fort excursions during the festival. But the heads on tables and faces in bins throwing up told a different story. To be fair, the sea was relentless, and it felt like we were on a ride at Alton Towers that went on for far too long (two hours longer than it was supposed to).

That was just the start of Sunday’s demise. When the fort appeared in the distance spirits were high, but as we walked up the hill and saw the fort party, spirits came tumbling down. The small stage was outside of the fort’s walls, no one was allowed inside, we’d missed Charli Brix’s set, Kyrist couldn’t make it – and to make things worse –  the only spirit the bar served was Jägermeister. It led to a mass exodus of people jumping on coaches back to the festival before Marky & GQ had even made it up the hill. They were bemused. It was a mess.

Thankfully, they jumped straight on stage and salvaged things. As GQ said, “We’re gonna do the best with what we’ve got” – and that’s what they did. Marky pulled out his Brazilian flair, scratching the decks while spinning around, and GQ tried his best to insert life into the legs of those who stayed. There weren’t many, but to look at this with a positive – when else would you see DJ Marky in such an intimate setting?

There was a lot of frustration from ravers after the fort, but it’s worth noting the Hospital team who were there looked just as disgruntled. I’m sure Hospital had big plans for the fort, but as had already become apparent during the Thursday of the festival, there were issues arising from us being in Albania for the first time.

And that’s important to remember – this was the first HOTB in Albania. Inaugural festivals usually run into teething issues. Thankfully, it was easy to look past these annoyances when the music was so good – especially Marky & GQs nighttime set on Splendor. They promised they’d go hard to make up for earlier, and they did. SP:MC jumping on stage for an impromptu b2b with GQ, Marky closing the set by grabbing the mic and singing over his remix of Ne-Yo & Ghostface Killah’s ‘Back Like Dat’ – it was a performance putting smiles back on people’s faces.

The final day of HOTB is always an eventful one with people giving every last ounce of their energy, and this Monday was no different. With Run in The Jungle and Born On Road taking over Cove, and Splendor playing host to one final Hospitality showcase, it was an awesome final day of big wubs and bigger melodies.

But away from the festival site, something special was going down – a party on Gjipe Beach – which fans got speed boats to. These afternoon parties had been going on for a few days, but this one, in particular, invited Camo & Krooked, Etherwood, Kings of The Rollers, Harriet Jaxxon, Makoto, Lally, MC Fava, MC Daxta and Lowqui. This wasn’t just any beach party. It was located inside of a canyon, set back from a hidden beach, with a make-shift-looking stage featuring the biggest stack of speakers on either side.

Andy C

It felt like a free party we’d stumbled across in amongst the bushes, and it made for a festival highlight. Whether it was Camo & Krooked going in with a throwback dancefloor set like the ones they graced Rampage 2014 and 2016 with, or Harriet Jaxxon rolling through jungle while Lowqui ventured out into the crowd with the mic to vibe with ravers – everyone in the crowd had beaming smiles. This was a friendly, family affair – the Hospitality mantra. People in the crowd giving water to Daxta while on the mic, Etherwood singing ‘Begin By Letting Go’ (something he never does), girls on the side dancing with hula-hoops – it was special.

It reminded me of the feeling of gratitude I had at Barbarella’s after-parties in Tisno when the sun came up and the crowd were still vibing at 6am. It was a pinch-yourself moment. I didn’t have as many of these moments in Albania. I particularly missed the crazy Barbarella’s b2bs that made your mouth water (Friction b2b Randall b2b S.P.Y especially). There should have been more of these in Albania with the list of names gracing the festival, but thankfully, Hospital had a surprise up their sleeve to close out the festival at Splendor – a gigantic b2b between artists including Makoto, Fred V, Etherwood, Stay-C, Viridity, Degs, Whiney, AC13, Lally and Buunshin, with Lowqui and KAZ on the mic.

It wouldn’t be HOTB without an unorthodox b2b, and the people who stayed until sunrise to see it were treated to throwback tunes, big mixes, and the occasional funny clanger. There were so many DJs on stage that even Lowqui didn’t know who was dropping what. There was even a successful marriage proposal! It was the joyous ending to a festival that has been in the hearts of many Hospitality ravers since it started in 2018. While the Albanian version of Hospitality On The Beach did have its ups and downs, you can’t ignore the fact this festival was one for the history books – one where we demonstrated just how global Drum & Bass is!

If this is enough to whet your whistle don’t forget about Hospitality Weekend In The Woods which is coming 17th and 18th September 2022! Final remaining tickets can be found here!

Returning for a second year in the mystical location of Orrell Hill Wood, The One In The Woods festival promises another weekend jam-packed with Techno and Drum & Bass over 30th and 31st July. Situated just a 20-minute drive from the centre of Liverpool, the woodland venue offers a secluded haven for ravers to escape normality and enjoy the weekend in the best way (get tickets here).

The organisers of the event, The One, have extensive experience staging shows in Merseyside and are keen to give back, which is why festival-goers will be indulged with a salivating selection of local food vendors. This time around dance music fans will be treated to another spectacular selection of artists across four stages. With such an impressive roster Data Transmission has chosen five acts which you must see…

Nastia

The Ukrainian artist has become one of the biggest names to emerge from the European Techno scene. Her unique sound – which encapsulates minimal, dubby and atmospheric rhythms – has captivated audiences right around the globe including slots at major Techno havens like Crssd in San Diego and DC-10 in Ibiza.

Revered for her turntable exploits the Kyiv-born artist will take you through the most vibrant and sonically bliss journey of all the nuances throughout the Techno spectrum.

Parfait

The Parisian Naïla Guiget (Parfait) carved out a name for herself by mixing at alternative LGBT+ parties. Then she decided to set up her own night, Possession, which focused on removing all kinds of stigma and providing a space for everyone to come together to share their love for Techno.

The French Techno scene has grown rapidly since her project started to attract a wider following and as such Guiget has since gained international recognition, playing for the world-renowned Boiler Room.

If you find yourself watching this talented artist then make sure you brace yourself for a truly exhilarating journey as she draws for the most stark and industrial beats.

Matrix & Futurebound

This duo have been tearing up clubs and festivals around the world for many years with their pulsating mix of Drum & Bass beats. This show will be extra special for Futurebound as it is situated just outside the city of Liverpool which happens to be the birthplace of the Viper Recordings head honcho.

When you come to watch these two you know you’re going to be treated to the perfect concoction of earth-shattering beats and vibrant vocal records – they’ve had a string of Top 40 UK tracks such as ‘All I Know’, ‘Magnetic Eyes’ and ‘Control’.

Pendulum

The festival’s headliners are one of the biggest acts in electronic music. The Australian group are known for their rock-infused bass and have been an integral part of the global scene for many years. Whilst their live performances incorporate vocalist and founder, Rob Swire as well Gareth McGrillen, Paul Harding A.K.A. EL Hornet is the wizard that steps on the decks when they play a DJ set.

Last year they returned with new music after a ten-year hiatus and there are rumours the group could be planning a new album in the near future.

This act will undoubtedly blow your mind and promise to raise the energy levels right into the stratosphere with their hard-hitting array of bass.

Kings of the Rollers

Four years ago Serum, Voltage and Bladerunner decided to join forces leaving Drum & Bass fans salivating at the prospect of these heavyweights joining forces.

The trio have since gone on to play all around the world from Europe to Australia and has also been star attractions at the biggest festivals in the UK, including Boomtown, Creamfields and Detonate to name a few.

When you go to see this collective you know you’re going to be in for a real treat as each member is insanely gifted on a pair of CDJs, particularly Voltage, who is an expert at whipping crowds into a frenzy with his mesmerising blends.

New for 2022, the music event series Siren, has announced ‘Hospitality on the Harbour’ for its Saturday line-up. Siren takes place at Bristol’s beautiful harbourside, on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July.

The main stage will feature Hybrid Minds (+ Tempza); alongside support from Kings of the Rollers and Inja; a twenty-year celebratory set from High Contrast; with Grafix, Flava D, Etherwood and more also taking to the stage.

Curated by celebrated Bristol label Hospitality, these Drum & Bass heavyweights join dance legends Groove Armada, who take to the Siren stage on Friday as part of their last full live UK tour, with support from Radio 6 Music DJ and Fun Lovin Criminals frontman Huey Morgan and stellar female representation from label Saffron Records and Scarlett O’Malley.

Saturday’s headliners, Hybrid Minds, accompanied by regular MC, Tempza, are a phenomenon of soulful Drum & Bass music. With a history of trailblazing releases, including many on their own Hybrid Music label, they’ve established themselves as one of the most important acts on the D&B scene. After receiving plaudits for their debut ‘Mountains’ album, their second, ‘Elements’, reveals the multiple facets of their sound. Garnering huge acclaim, they blend crate-dug classics, brand new material, and more leftfield selections to create unique moments.

Kings Of The Rollers

Serum, Voltage, Bladerunner and Inja have become D&B figureheads individually but have come together as Kings Of The Rollers. As solo artists, they’ve released music across the scene’s biggest labels including Hospital Records, 31, V Recordings, Metalheadz, Ram and Low Down Deep and collected multiple awards in the process. Their debut track ‘Burnt Ends’ became a key catalyst for the “foghorn” bass trend which has dominated clubs and raves.

Having signed exclusively to Hospital Records, Kings Of The Rollers released their self-titled debut album in 2019 picking up “Best Album” at the national Drum & bBss Awards. They followed this up in 2020 with their ‘Main Event’ EP and remixes for Sigma and Shy FX. Their sets are as unpredictable as they are explosive, switching from the foundation to the cutting edge at breakneck speed. Inja’s lightning-fast reactions and uplifting lyrics provide the perfect accompaniment.

High Contrast has been at the leading edge of the Drum & Bass scene for 20 years. He curated music for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony; he’s worked with everyone from Underworld to DJ Fresh; he did a timeless Fabric live mix; and he’s one of dance music’s elite remixers, achieving acclaim for reworks of Adele, Duke Dumont, White Stripes, Kanye West and, of course, London Grammar’s ‘Strong’. High Contrast co-produced Underworld’s latest album, the revitalized sounds of ‘Barbara, Barbara, We Have A Shining Future’. He also worked with DJ Fresh and Dizzee Rascal last year on the Radio 1 A-listed ‘How Love Begins’ single.

As well as some of the biggest D&B artists of the moment on the main stage, ‘Area 2’ will also play host to local talent Born On Road X The Blast. Fans attending the event will get to enjoy two days of definitive dance and D&B classics at this brand-new music event, against the enigmatic backdrop of Bristol’s harbour with boats and cranes.

“This is a brilliant line up for Bristol and Hospitality will be bringing a number of big names to the city who have a huge following in the city. After a sell out Saturday for our first city centre festival, Siren will bring drum and bass to the Summer festival scene with a backdrop of Bristol’s iconic harbour. Tickets for both nights are selling well so we’re looking forward to a great night.”

Tom Hoyle, Co-Founder of Siren

This year sees more stages than ever before and artists already confirmed including AJ Tracey, Eats Everything, Andy C, Pa Salieu, Ms Banks, Bru-C, DJ EZ, Shy FX, Kings Of The Rollers, TQD, Prospa, Jaguar, and many more. As ever, MADE Festival delivers the big names while still supporting the brightest rising talents across UK rap and hip hop, drum & bass, house, disco, jungle, reggae and bass music, and is set to cement its reputation as a highlight of the UK summer festival calendar.

MADE Festival was one of the very few festivals which took place last summer with organisers determined to deliver the festival and celebration that the West Midlands needed. It turned out to be an incredible event with thousands safely enjoying live music again in an electric atmosphere. 2022 will see 20,000 up-for-it party people descend on Dunstall Park to go one better and immerse themselves in a day and night of incredible music, urban arts, creative performance, delicious street food and friendly vibes.

“Putting on MADE last year took a titanic effort but it was worth it to see the enjoyment on people’s faces after enduring such a hard time. We’ve moved to a bigger home in Dunstall Park this year so we can step it up again. More space, more bars, more toilets, less queueing and really easy to get to. We want fans to focus on the music, the atmosphere, the incredible lineup we’ve been working so hard to put together, and on enjoying one of the friendliest festivals the UK has to offer.” – Festival Director Pete Jordan

It’s time to dance again in the sunshine!

Saturday the 13th of November 2021 saw something very special happen in London. Kings Of The Rollers took over Printworks for their biggest Drum & Bass showcase to date. This fell exactly 561 days after the original date, 1st of May 2020! When it was originally announced back in May 2020, we were rife with anticipation for one of the most stacked line-ups we had seen in ages. However, due to the infamous COVID-19 we, unfortunately, had to wait until November 2021 to finally step foot into Printworks for the main event, the Royal Rumble.

Now when you give Serum, Voltage and Bladerunner (KOTR) the chance to take control of a venue like Printworks you best buckle up and get ready because there is no doubt it is going to be one hell of a ride and boy did they deliver. Showcasing some of the finest talent the Drum & Bass scene has to offer right now matched with a seriously crispy sound system and illusive visuals, it was, without doubt, a contender for the rave of the year.

As always with Printworks the day usually starts about midday and rumbles all the way through until 11pm so it’s safe to say it’s no sprint. We arrived at around 3pm and got things rolling straight away in the Press Halls with a little bit of a set from the ages. Drum & Bass legends, Micky FinnAphrodite and Brockie ran us through a wicked selection of fierce jump-up and classic dubplates with none other than MC Trigga on hosting duties, effortlessly setting the tone for the start of the day.

Giving us no time to breathe, up next in control was one hell of a back-to-back. S.P.Y, Doc Scott and Randall with a favourite of ours, SP:MC on the micThree absolute monsters behind the decks and a lyrical technician who know just how to please a crowd. If you like dark, techy infused jungle beats then this was the set for you. Packed with enough jungle breaks, moody rollers and technical numbers to make anyone draw for a gun finger. As expected we were gifted a singalong moment with S.P.Y’s ‘Metrik (Ft Rothwell) We Got It (S.P.Y Remix)’ and of course who could forget S.P.Y’s ‘Bad Monday’, it really doesn’t get much darker than that. The three in control were effortlessly transitioning from one another to provide us with a seriously gruesome selection of tracks. It was the perfect set to take us into the evening.

Up next was a set that we had been waiting for, ever since the line-up was announced. A back-to-back between HalogenixWorkforce and LSB. You only have to look at the three names mentioned to realise how seriously good this set was. Each artist brought their absolute A-game to the party with a wide variety of production styles on show. As you would expect, the dark, melodic liquid numbers were flying out like no tomorrow. It was the perfect switch up following two incredibly heavy sets and a nice way to bring the tone down for a little bit before the headliners took to the stage. Despite the eclectic selection of liquid tracks on show, don’t be fooled, this set was far from tame. Halogenix brought the heat with a spin of his ‘Kings Of The Rollers – Shella (ft. Chimpo) (Halogenix Remix)’ remix whilst also spinning a ridiculous selection of dubs. Workforce, who’s been absolutely caning it following his time with Spectrasoul, made his mark when he dropped a massive Alix Perez dub featuring vocals from T-Man and LSB was met with a huge crowd reaction when he dropped his gully VIP of ‘LSB – Potshot’. All eyes were on the headliners for the day, but this set was special, it was the perfect set-up for the main event.

It was now time for the main event. Kings Of The Rollers hosted by Inja. Now unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 4 or so years you’ve probably already seen Kings Of The Rollers a handful of times and are wondering if this set would be any different. Well, let me just say, this was without a doubt the best Kings Of The Rollers set we had seen to date. The whole set as a spectacle was just absolutely insane. The introduction to the set was ridiculous, the intensity on the drop was unrivalled. The bass coming out of the sound system was so huge you could literally feel it rumbling your insides and who could forget the lighting and pyrotechnics show. The lights were moving up and down, fire was blasting out the top of them, it was absolutely going off inside Printworks. The trio in control were serving up a fierce selection of their own productions whilst gracing us with some new releases such as ‘Kings Of The Rollers – Somebody Else Part 2 (Ft. Lydia Plain). The set as a whole was the perfect example of how to live up to expectations. It felt like a proper journey led by Kings Of The Rollers. Moving us through a range of emotions, dictating our every step. It’s hard to pinpoint the best parts out of a set that was so flawless but Serum’s remix of ‘Bou & Trigga – Veteran’ has got to make the cut. A proper wobbler. Special mention has to go to Inja who once again hosted the set perfectly, providing us with a wicked lyrical performance. Let’s be honest, Inja never misses when it comes to hosting a Kings Of The Rollers set.

The final set of the night came from another trio of artists who have been on everyone’s radar for a while now. Benny L, Harriet Jaxxon, and T>I. These three stepped up and gave us no chance for recovery. As usual Benny L dragged Printworks into the darkness with his hard-hitting productions, Harriet Jaxxon showcased her insanely good mixing skills and T>I delivered some technical steppers. The three of them stepped up to the plate and delivered what was the perfect closing set to a ridiculously good rave-up. One unforgettable moment has got to be when Benny L doubled ‘Benny L – Vanta Black’ with ‘DJ Die & Break – Slow Down VIP’. Cold cutting jungle breaks combined with the hard-hitting bass of Vanta Black. Insane.

It was hard to put into words how good this event really was, it was one of those ones where you just had to be there. If you were one of the lucky ones who managed to go, I’m sure you are, like myself, still scrambling through videos, fighting off those post-rave blues and counting down the hours till the next one. I’m sure Kings Of The Rollers have already started planning their next London Royal Rumble and we can’t wait for it.

Welcoming us back into the world of festivals the one-day treat that is Electric Woodlands did not disappoint. With “11 hours of musical escapism” Bygrave Farm provided us with the space to freely dance and it felt so good!

Starting off with Sam-E and Rumour kicking off before lunchtime, you got a feel for the area, exploring the three different areas, taking in the bunting and lanterns hidden amongst the branches of the enchanting forest, with footpaths lined by trees and immersive stages in vast fields, leading you to the two stages, both standing proud and lit up. The Cru-Cast stage held a worldly aesthetic, floral decorations weeping down from the ceiling of the stage and bunting framing and joining the trees. The main stage where Mollie Collins was kicking things off, was the big boy of the festival, joined with its army of sound systems and light shows, it lived up to its electric name.

By 1 pm you could bounce between infamous DJ Hazard and Royal Hustle over on the Enchanted Forest stage – Foreverland‘s contribution to the party – and K Motionz B2B Turno Feat MC IC3, who stormed the Big Top Stage and really set a wicked energy for the day. The light show illuminated the stage, reining down colour beams onto the artists was a vision.

DJ Q B2B Jamie Duggan lead us to Flava D on The Clearing stage for some lunchtime tunes, and both sets were as lively as the other. You could taste the excitement of all the party-goers in the air and the energy was electric already. Harriet Jaxxon and Richy Ahmed‘s sets were both filled with high energy as you would expect from them and the excitement shared between both artists and audience could be clearly seen.

DnB Allstars wouldn’t be the DnB Allstars we know and love if we didn’t see the notorious Kings of the Rollers with Inja repping it on their stage, and we were in no way let down. Their signature sound blasted through the sound system, carrying the cries of the audience. With the décor and all the production, this set held an enigmatic tone for the rest of the day – and as more of the crowd entered, the festival had definitely begun!

Kanine featuring MC AD was as big and bad as you would hope, and moving from that into the intimate woodlands where Lewis Tala was delivering some extremely tasty treats for the forest creatures was an excellent display of the variety of music the festival was offering. At the same time, the sun started to get a bit lower and the space was filling up, Alcemist B2B Goddard took over from Kings of the Rollers and gave us a real good spout of drums and bass – as a personal fan of this young DJ It felt good to be able to see live performances artists we love again – long live the dance!

Zero lead us into the afternoon on The Clearing which was starting to irradiate with colours reflecting off the leaves above the stages, creating its own sky of seemingly psychedelic movements. As the colours of the uplighting started to get a bit brighter in the trees, the sky was getting closer to dusk which seemed to fit ideally with Darkzy and Window Kid’s exhilarating performance.

The one set I know I had been waiting all day to see and can no doubt speak for many as well is Chase & Status. With so many festivals cancelled I felt lucky to be out in the fields dancing and to see Chase & Status as well felt like a present. They sent out so many energetic and irresistible tunes, the whole set was one huge ball of dynamism. From big sounds to big flames it was the highlight of the evening and lured you into the night. Every tune sang through the speakers into our ears and it was fantastic to hear the familiar favourite and remixes, it was a big show on its own and the hour didn’t last long enough!

As it started getting darker, the forest was coming to life, with all the bunting reflecting the lights creating an ultraviolet tapestry within the trees. There was a different colour everywhere you looked, electric rainbows dancing alongside nature – it was an extraordinary vision. Alisha‘s sounds fitted this mystical and otherworldly vibe perfectly. Sammy Virji B2B Higgo played into the evening on The Big Top with Lazcru FT MC AD hosting another set over in The Clearing.

Bad Boy Chiller Crew switched it up for us on the main stage, and over in The Clearing Skepsis with MC AD doing a double shift on stage was at no lack of oomph! John Summit, another personal favourite on the other side of the spectrum of music was a perfect fit for the setting – with his summery festival made beats and charisma on stage he was genuinely so much fun to watch and dance to, perhaps getting up there with one of the best sets of the night!

Dimension (DJ set) wasn’t one to miss, playing all the signature drops and blends many had been craving over our dance deprived lockdown! Cajama was doing what they do best as they took over from Skepsis‘ set.

Closing the incredible event was Tsuki in The Clearing, who ended on such a high you could hear the cheers of the crowd from all around. Trying to soak in as much as we could, we bounced over to Detlef B2B Latmun who was treating us to a serving of some cosmic flavours. They both took us on a couple of space journeys through beats and bpms!

Lastly, but in no way or means least, the magical Hybrid Minds left us wanting more with such a euphoric set, I could feel smiles from a mile off and the vocal appreciation from the audience must have been overwhelming. It was magnificent to be a part of such a happy crowd! Leaving the woods felt a bit sad as festival season was coming to an end, but I was grateful to have had the experience and being able to dance away in woodlands and fields is all we could have asked for!

Thanks for the dance Electric Woodlands. Until next time…!
