Hood Politics Records welcomes Viv Castle for his latest release, ‘The Funk’ (incl. R3WIRE Remix), out now on all platforms.

A producer with a growing catalogue of club weapons, Viv follows up his recent ‘Let It Roll’ EP on V55 Records and builds on a standout 2024 that saw him appear on labels like Altra Moda, Diynamic, and Insomniac. Known for his seamless fusion of driving rhythms, deep grooves, and nostalgic nods to classic Rave music, he continues to define his own lane in the Tech House scene.

‘The Funk’ is a masterclass in groove, offering an intricate blend of pulsating basslines, crisp percussion, and hypnotic synths. The track’s infectious energy is fuelled by rolling low-end movement and tight, punchy drum programming, creating a driving force that feels both raw and refined. Rave-inspired elements add an extra edge, ensuring its place in peak-time club sets.

R3WIRE takes the track into deeper, harder-hitting territory with a remix that dials up the intensity. By emphasising rolling percussion and deep bass pressure, he delivers a remix built for late-night sessions and underground spaces. While staying true to the essence of the original, this version adds a darker, heavier feel, offering a dynamic alternative for DJs who love weighty, groove-driven Tech House.

Check out ‘The Funk’ live in action below at one of Viv Castle’s recent club shows in Atlanta, USA:

Viv Castle continues to refine and expand his sound with every release. ‘The Funk’ is a testament to his ability to fuse underground Tech House roots with forward-thinking production, keeping his music both timeless and cutting-edge. Whether through his own originals or high-profile collaborations, his name is fast becoming a staple in the scene.

Born and raised in Connecticut, one hour outside of Manhattan, Tommy Bones fixation on House Music and dancing would pull him to the heady lights of New York in the early ‘90s.

This week, the house music veteran is back on the Data Transmission Podcast, bringing his signature blend of deep and driving house. We’re also spotlighting his latest release, ‘Shouldna / Dub Style’, on Louie Vega’s Vega Records, a stellar double AA showcasing his timeless sound.

The New York native delivers with ‘Shouldna’, a stripped-back warehouse groove packed with eerie vocal snippets and twitchy synth details, creating an all-encompassing, hypnotic vibe. On the flip side, ‘Dub Style’ leans into Detroit-style chords and dubbed-out drums for a soulful yet driving track that’s pure class.

With over three decades in the game, Tommy continues to push boundaries, whether on his House of Bones imprint or with fresh releases like this. ‘Shouldna / Dub Style’ is out now digitally and on vinyl via Vega Records.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…

Big Bumpin’ house vibes with a sprinkle of unreleased bangers

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

Of course I’m loving the latest release “Weakness” out now on OBeach music (Shameless Plug Haha) but It’s so difficult to pick just one. There’s two tracks in the mix that are getting an unbelievable response in my live shows at the moment called “Fade” and my remix of Dakar’s “This Feeling”

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

House music is definitely regaining its groove, and I feel this mix showcases a perfect blend of fresh, newly released tracks, some exciting unreleased material, and a clear reflection of the direction I’m steering the Tough Love sound toward in 2025.

Tell us about your next release?

Weakness is out now on OBeach Music! Written and performed by me, this track is inspired by the two genres that have had the biggest impact on my journey in electronic music: House and Garage.

What have you got coming up?

I have an exciting series of collaborations lined up for release early next year. In the coming months, I’ll be performing shows in Dubai and across the UK, with some major events already locked in for next year. On December 14th, my team and I are bringing The Night Is Calling party to E1 in London, taking over their brand-new White Studio, a smaller, more intimate space within the venue that’s perfect for the vibe we’re creating. Plus, there’s some big news about Get Twisted Records coming before the year ends, so stay tuned!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

First, a huge thank you to the Data Transmission team for their years of support, you’ve been such an important part of the Tough Love journey from the very beginning, just as you have for so many others. I’m incredibly grateful and wish you all continued success!
