UKF and RIOT Noise are teaming up with the Young Urban Arts Foundation (YUAF) for ‘The DROP Drum & Bass Takeover’ – a two-day event that’s set to shake up London’s youth Drum & Bass scene. Running from 2pm to 8pm on 29th and 30th October at Greenwich Peninsula, this takeover is all about empowering young Londoners with workshops led by top-notch industry pros, spotlighting just how transformative music and creativity can be.

“Drum & Bass was my lifeline growing up, so for my charity to partner with UKF, RIOT Noise and the UK’s leading DJs and producers on this event, to raise awareness, give back and empower more young people together is a very powerful thing. We all understand the power of music and creativity and the ability to create safe havens, increase well-being and change lives. I’m so excited to see what amazing things we can achieve together, and a huge thank you to every single person who will contribute and has brought this magical event together.”Indigo Reign (Kerry O’Brien), Founder of YUAF

As the long-standing home of bass music, UKF has been bringing beats and bass to global audiences for 15 years. They’re throwing a huge celebration at Drumsheds in December and have handpicked some of the finest artists from that lineup to share their knowledge and give back to the next generation.

Indigo Reign (centre)

“We’re thrilled to be working with YUAF on their mission to empower the lives of young people by collaborating on a special two days of programming on their bus, to help discover and bring through the next generation of bass music fans.” Luke Hood, founder of UKF

Over the two days, there’ll be hands-on workshops covering everything from music production to DJing, radio presenting, and topline writing – all taking place on YUAF’s ultra-cool double-decker media outreach bus. It’s open to young creatives aged 16-25, with BBC Radio 1‘s Charlie Tee, Flava D, Anaïs, Jackum, Shosh, and Subten leading sessions. Our good friend Carly Wilford and two of our homegrown DJs from Milton Keynes DAIN and Hardisty will also be there.

“At RIOT Noise, we believe in the power of music transforming lives. We are humbled to be partnering with the Young Urban Arts Foundation and UKF as part of our commitment to empower the next generation of artists. Together, we’re equipping young people with the skills to produce music and DJ, fostering creativity and self-expression in urban communities.”Nicky Maciocia, founder of RIOT Noise

YUAF, founded in 2009 by pioneering Drum & Bass MC Indigo Reign, has reached over 22,000 young people across London. The charity works in areas where access to creative opportunities is limited, helping those most at risk of exploitation or crime find their way through music and the arts. With youth funding in short supply, YUAF’s work brings a much-needed spark of hope and possibility to these communities.

Day in and day out, their team of producers, songwriters, lyricists, and visual artists are out there on the streets, in schools, and on estates. They offer beat-making workshops and help connect young creatives with valuable training and work experience, opening doors in an industry that can be hard to crack into.

“We are delighted to support YUAF’s mission to enrich young lives through music, arts, and creativity. Our past collaborations with YUAF have been incredibly rewarding, and we’re excited to offer new opportunities to young people on Greenwich Peninsula and across London.”Laura Flanagan, Marketing Director at Greenwich Peninsula

Entry is free for this event but you still need to grab a ticket which you can do here!

5 Facts / 5 Tracks: Gardna https://datatransmission.co/features/5-facts-5-tracks-gardna/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 14:25:22 +0000 https://datatransmission.co/?p=71656 Gardna, synonymous with genre-defying soundscapes and electric live performances, has carved out a unique niche in the global music scene.

The post 5 Facts / 5 Tracks: Gardna appeared first on Data Transmission.

]]>
Gardna, a Bristol-based artist, elevates his success through genre-defying sound and high-energy performances. His unique style blends elements across the sound system spectrum, taking him from underground scenes to global stages. In the summer of 2023, Gardna performed at over 30 festivals, including Glastonbury and Boomtown, and at notable venues like Printworks and WAH Ibiza. His sophomore album, ‘Time & Space’, garnered critical acclaim and accolades from BBC Radio 1. Known for his dynamic collaborations, Gardna has worked with artists like Sigma and Gentleman’s Dub Club, with more collaborations underway. His worldwide tours and explosive live shows continue to expand his reach, and his music appears on numerous Spotify and Apple Music playlists.

Gardna is part of a stacked lineup for Charlie Tee’s Unitee party this weekend as part of the Under August Weekender on Sunday, 18th August. He joins Charlie Tee, Dimension, Charlotte Plank, Clipz, Lens and many more DJs and MCs under the Nene Parkway Flyover, Orton Mere, Peterborough PE2 7DZ, UK from 12:00 – 22:00. For tickets and more information, visit https://under.events.

5 Facts

My real name is Luke Gardiner. More than a few times in my career, European promoters have translated my stage name, Gardna, into a ‘grower’ of some sort and tried to offer me large proportions of the devil’s lettuce. It’s hilarious and very generous, but I don’t even smoke (or grow, for that matter). It’s a thing.

I’ve been going to Glastonbury Festival for 22 years, and I’ve been performing for the last 10 years straight. It’s my spiritual home.

I fell asleep on the floor of Ibiza airport after a big night out. I went straight to the airport and very nearly missed my engagement party. Mrs. was fuming, but I’m just about forgiven.

I am also a massive foodie. I’m in a little food club (just for fun) with some fellow Bristol muckers. It’s me, food influencer Bos Finesse, house producer GotSome, and our lovely girlfriends. We go out, enjoy, and rate the best gaffs in Bristol quite regularly. I love it.

I am gonna start my own day festival. Watch this space…

5 Tracks

Gardna – Good Time Not A Long Time (ft. Omar) (Watch The Ride Remix)

This is a tune I did with Watch the Ride (Die, Dismantle and Randall), and soul icon Omar. To work with these guys meant the world to me then and means the world and more to me now. I know Randall loved this one as much as I did. Rest in Peace to the R. DJ Randall Forever.

Pola & Bryson – Tell You What I Did (ft. Zitah)

Something about this tune. Upfront funky rave banger, I always dedicate this one to the women in the dance; we’d be Nowhere without them. Big up the ladies.

Joy Orbison – Hyph Mngo (Friction Bootleg)

One of my favourite tunes from teenage years gets a re-rub from DNB royalty Friction. So good this and kicks off in the dance

OKO – Abduction

Bit of a southwest wobbler this one. She’s from near where I grew up, I reckon. Shine a bit of light on the southwest gang doing bits. This one’s in every set in a minute; great double dropper.

A-Sides – One DJ

Banger this, first heard it on Digi Soundboy Fabric live and i’ve loved hearing it in sets over the years. Proper roller. I met A-Sides in a bar in Dubai once (probably one of the only places in Dubai at the time to get a pint) typical of me two english DNB artists to find that.

Catch Gardna, along with Charlie Tee, Dimension, Charlotte Plank, Clipz, Lens and many more this Sunday in Peterborough. Grab your tickets here.

]]>
As anticipation and excitement build ahead of Under’s upcoming August weekender (17 & 18 Aug), the Peterborough-based outdoor dance brand is delighted to have secured two powerhouse headline acts for Sunday 18th August.

Bolstering the already impressive lineup for BBC Radio 1’s Charlie Tee and her Unitee party are gold-certified, UK chart-topping Drum & Bass behemoth Dimension fresh from a headline slot on the Main Stage at Tomorrowland, and the Brit-Award nominated singer/songwriter Charlotte Plank, best known for anthemic collaborations with Rudimental, Vibe Chemistry, Hybrid Minds, Skepsis and many more of Bass music’s significant players.

These additions come in response to Shy FX cancelling his appearance at Under, as well as a run of other shows. The DnB legend cited personal reasons for his decision in an Instagram story on Monday 5 Aug.

There are a few bigger names in DnB than Dimension. Last year saw the prolific DJ / producer sell out groundbreaking live shows at Electric Brixton and Printworks before going on to showcase his spectacular live show at OVO Arena Wembley. He continues to headline huge festivals around the world and is at the forefront of the Drum & Bass explosion in the USA.

Ravers should now get ready for an unforgettable weekend at Under, where over 50 acts are set to deliver an unrivalled outdoor dancing experience.

From 12pm until 10pm, the Under August Weekender is poised to be one of the summer’s most sought-after clubbing events.

Secure tickets now via www.under.events, starting from just £24.95, and join a vibrant celebration of music, art, and community.

Essential outdoor dance brand, Under, has announced over 50 more acts to appear at its August Weekender when it returns to its unique home beneath the Nene Parkway Flyover in Peterborough. Day one of this epic two-day rave on Saturday 17th August, hosted by trusted event brand Mixology, now welcomes Sidney Charles, Ozzie Guven, Blondi and many more house music selectors.

While packing out the lineup on Sunday 18th August, hosted by Charlie Tee’s vital drum ‘n’ bass club brand, Unitee, are Clipz, Gardna, Lens, and enough MCs to send a shockwave through the city.

This latest lineup follows the previously announced headliners, which included the hot house heads East End Dubs and SOSA (17 Aug), and BBC Radio 1’s Charlie Tee and D&B legend, Shy FX (18 Aug).

With the huge success of SOSA’s latest single “BLOW (White Girl In Town)” featuring Kilo Ali, which hit No.2 on the Beatport Top 100 Chart, expect the floor to be shaking when SOSA drops the biggest house track popping off in the UK right now.

Fans of house music with depth, melody and groove need to get a ticket for the Saturday at Under to catch one of Hamburg’s finest exports, Sidney Charles as he spins tunes from his Heavy House Society label and beyond. For minimal and deep cuts, Ozzie Guven will have it covered, playing out a catalogue of tracks that have signed to Sidney’s label, Seven Dials Records and drawn support from such heavyweights as Marco Carola and Michael Bibi.

You can also catch our very on Loz Seka on Saturday in the VIP Arena fresh from playing Hidden Festival on the Data Transmission stage and his current smash Súbele, which came out on Data Transmission in June and has been supported by Arielle Free, MK, Solardo and Fatboy Slim!

For bass music heads, Sunday at Under will be a playground of all things jungle and D&B. Original noughties junglist Clipz has made a welcome return to the scene and now arrives at Under, after conquering all corners of the dance music circuit under the alias, Redlight. MC-songwriter Gardna will be showcasing the same energy-driven live performance that saw him scoop BBC Radio 1’s Dance Award. While rapidly rising star Lens will be unleashing her imaginative and eclectic selections that’ve seen her tour with bass music royalty, Chase & Status and Hybrid Minds.

Since its inception as a one-day event three years ago, Under has morphed into a vital dance event that rivals any UK production of its size. Its remarkable setting beneath the Nene Parkway Flyover makes for no ordinary clubbing experience; a juxtaposition of concrete and industrial wasteland with the beautiful, scenic landscape of the River Nene and Nene Park off in the distance.

A true celebration of urban clubbing, Under also showcases the talents of the region’s most reputable graffiti artists – JXC, Nathan “Nyces” Murdoch, Gnasher Mural and Hero 32 to name a few – exhibiting giant murals of the headline DJs towering the height of the bridge, and creating an eye-popping backdrop for this daytime affair.

Various tickets are available from day and weekend passes to VIP and discounted group packages. Starting from £24.95 for a day ticket and £59.95 for a weekend ticket, Under is serious value for money.

Powered by a Funktion-One sound system and running from 12 midday until 10pm, the Under August Weekender is set to attract thousands of clubbers and is already looking like one of the most in-demand clubbing destinations this summer.

Tickets are on sale from £24.95 at www.under.events.

Essential outdoor dance brand, Under, will return to its unique setting under the Nene Flyover in Peterborough this August with an epic two-day rave.

Saturday 17th August will be staged by the revered east of England club promoter, Mixology, and it lines up the cultured selector East End Dubs, who’ll keep crowds locked in with his stripped-back, distinctive grooves from the worlds of house, garage and tech.

East End Dubs

The Eastenderz label boss and TRMNL regular will be complimented by the hypnotic grooves of SOSA. SOSA’s signature minimal-tech productions have been signed to The Martinez Brother’s imprint Cuttin Headz and Jamie Jones’ legendary Hottrax label. A pioneer of all things minimal, expect a journey of sounds at Under.

Sunday 18th August is hosted by Unitee, the club brand of Radio 1 Drum ‘n’ Bass presenter, Charlie Tee. Ms Tee welcomes to the stage, the ‘Original Nuttah’, Shy FX. From scoring several UK crossover hits while maintaining his underground credibility, few jungle / drum ‘n’ bass artists straddle both ends of the spectrum, like Shy FX does.

The setting of these events makes for no ordinary clubbing experience. The surroundings of the event give it its special vibe – the juxtaposition of concrete and industrial wasteland with the beautiful, scenic landscape of the River Nene and Nene Park off in the distance.

And with the giant graffiti murals of the headline DJs – which tower the height of the bridge – painted by the region’s most reputable artists, JXC, Nathan “Nyces” Murdoch, Gnasher Mural and Hero 32, it’s a true celebration of urban clubbing.

Since its inception as a one-day event in 2021, Under has morphed into a vital dance event that rivals any UK production of its size, staging the world’s hottest talents from Sub Focus to Richy Ahmed and Hannah Wants to Bou.

Powered by a Funktion-One sound system from 12 midday until 10pm, and with a ton of talent yet to be announced, the August Weekender of Under is already shaping up to be one of the most in-demand daytime club tickets this summer.

Couple Gets Engaged Before 2000 Ravers Under Motorway Flyover https://datatransmission.co/news/couple-gets-engaged-before-2000-ravers-under-motorway-flyover/ Tue, 21 May 2024 14:10:12 +0000 https://datatransmission.co/?p=71104 Charlie Tee stepped up to help a loved-up fan propose to his girlfriend in front of a crowd of 2000 at Under in Peterborough.

Charlie Tee, host of BBC Radio 1’s Drum & Bass show, stepped up to help a loved-up fan propose to his girlfriend in front of a crowd of 2000 at her Unitee party – part of Under, a massive 3-day dance music event under the Nene flyover in Peterborough, organised by Mixology.

Drum & Bass fan Nick Clarke met his girlfriend Annie Harper a year earlier at Charlie Tee’s first Unitee party at Under. He messaged Charlie to say they were returning to the same spot for Unitee’s early May bank holiday event at Under this year, and that he wanted to propose to the love of his life.

At the event, Charlie announced she wanted to take a photo of the incredible crowd raving beneath the flyover as the traffic rolled over above and selected two apparently random people from the crowd for the photo. Only when Nick dropped to one knee and the message ‘Nick B2B Annie 4 Eva?’ appeared on the big screen did Annie realise what was happening.

The 2000 strong crowd of ravers had already enjoyed huge sets at Unitee from the likes of Sub Focus (who released his own video from the event that has gone viral with stunning drone footage), Turno, and A Little Sound.

Despite the incredible music and unique location, one moment stood out above the rest as, with tears streaming down her face, Annie said yes and the crowd erupted in cheers. Charlie Tee took to the decks to play the happy couple’s favourite Drum & Bass tune ‘No One Else’ by Wilkinson, Kanine & Clementine Douglas to dance on stage as they all celebrated the engagement together.

The amazing moment was captured on film and Charlie Tee shared the video last night showing how the whole plan came together. Drawing breath today Annie called the moment ‘the best day of my life’ while Charlie Tee posted part of the well-known message, ‘Couples who rave together, stay together.’

Charlie Tee plays at Hidden Festival this summer on Saturday 29th June with Kanine & 2Shy, Flowdan (Live), Turno & Dreps, and a whole bunch of other heavy hitters. Check out the full line-up here and Get Tickets From Skiddle!

It seemed only natural to ask her to record a new one for our Renegade Riddims series so we can see just how far she’s progressed over the past 5 years.

Charlie has gone above and beyond with this Renegade Riddims mix, the track selection is amazing and clearly demonstrates her love for music. Check out Charlie Tee’s mix below, it’s available as a free download on the button beneath the Soundcloud player!
