Mizaru joins the Spotlight Mix Series

Share

Starting off at a young age, you could find Mizaru behind the decks powering the teenage house parties with his 1210’s and soundsystem. It became apparent early on that he was gifted when it came to music, cutting his teeth on house, garage and dnb in the early 2000s.

With a fake ID and a pocket full of pound coins he would seek out the best dance music had to offer, he soaked in all the culture that the clubs and raves of the day provided, endlessly listening to tape packs and recreating the mixes of his idols. The next 15 years would see him hone his DJing and production skills, playing at many notable clubs and festivals such as Digital, Concorde2, Patterns, The Arch, Lafayette, Kendal Calling, Bluedot, Boomtown and Goodentimes, and winning more than a handful of Dj competitions along the way! He also hosted a radio show on the infamous Brighton pirate station Codesouth.fm for over 10 of those years.

Fast forward to 2020 and Mizaru hits the release charts with a string of dancefloor-focused tracks on labels such as Insurgent music, Kukushka, Jeepers! and Climax Digital Recordings. Refining that sounds over the last year his music has become firmly centred around the minimal/deep tech genres with notable releases on Whoyostro, Miaw, No Preset, Daze, and now the mighty 63b, Data Transmission’s own minimal/deep sub label. You can expect to hear those early influences from Drum & bass and Garage, alongside Jazz and funk in his new signature sound.

With a release schedule already filling up for next year and exciting gig bookings in place, its safe to say you will be seeing a bit more of Mizaru in 2024!

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
