MADE Festival has announced its full lineup as it reaches an incredible 10-year milestone as the biggest and best music and arts festival in the West Midlands.

Now bringing all acts together for one almighty birthday party from midday to 11pm on Saturday 3rd August in The Digbeth Triangle in the heart of Birmingham, MADE’s 10th delivers a mouthwatering lineup for all fans of drum & bass, bass, UK rap, garage, house, disco and more.

Midlands party people can explore the huge, multi-venue inner city, 10-stage site to enjoy headline sets from Bru-C, Dizzee Rascal, and Bou, and an array of talent including Ewan McVicar, K Motionz, Holy Goof B2B TS7, Jaguar Skills, Skepsis, A Little Sound, Window Kid, 24hr Garage Girls, 4AM Kru, Serum, La La, General Levy, Issey Cross, DJ Q and many more.

Check out last year’s official MADE Festival aftermovie below:

Independent promoters, Weird Science, run club events for over 150,000 people annually and MADE Festival began as their passion project in the creative hub of Digbeth. The intention was to provide a platform for local artists and an opportunity for local businesses. MADE expanded and outgrew Digbeth’s multitude of evolving spaces, moving across the city in 2018 to the greenfield site of Perry Park, where 20,000 festival fans helped put MADE firmly on the national map. After enforced moves to Sandwell Valley, then Wolverhampton Racecourse, MADE Festival made a triumphant return to its spiritual home of The Digbeth Triangle in 2023 and laid the foundations to celebrate 10 years this summer.

Saturday 3rd August sees the perpetually rising star and multi-platinum-selling MC and rapper, Bru-C take over the MADE Stage. With a slew of underground cuts and crossover bangers including his UK top 15 smash ‘No Excuses’ and Nathan Dawe collab ‘Oh Baby’, Bru-C drew huge crowds at his last MADE appearance in 2022 and earned his invite back to headline the 10th edition.

BRIT, MOBO and Mercury Prize-winning MC and rapper, Dizzee Rascal is another MADE fave, tearing it up on his last appearance in 2018 for the 5th edition of the festival. Dizzee led the way for generations of UK rap scoring 5 UK Top 10 albums, 5 UK no.1 singles including ‘Dance Wiv Me’, ‘Holiday’ and possibly the biggest festival tune of all time ‘Bonkers’. He remains as relevant as ever with new album ‘Don’t Take It Personal’ crashing into the charts this year.

Trailblazing star of drum & bass, Bou, steps up to MADE main stage and undoubtedly deserves his slot. With one of the biggest tracks of the year ‘Baddadan’ with Chase & Status to his name, a major label deal, and a slew of massive DJ sets under his belt, Bou can confidently stake a claim as D&B’s next-gen superstar. His big USA / Canada tour will warm him up, just in time to get MADE crowds bouncing.

The MADE Stage also sees quality garage vibes from 24hr Garage Girls, infectious bars from Bru-C collaborator Window Kid, UK jungle from 4AM Kru, sweet vocals from breakout ‘Bittersweet Goodbye’ star Issey Cross, and more.

The house heads are fully catered for on the Raw Stage with in-demand talent, Ewan McVicar dropping a funked-up headline set, while La La is sure to up the tempo and show why she’s recently delivered mixes for Feel My Bicep, Boiler Room, and Radio 1. Look out for some other big artist announcements coming soon for this stage.

Weird Science presents a stage full of drum & bass stars, hosted by Inja, SP:MC, IC3, Carasel, and Comma Dee. Birmingham’s fast rising star K-Motionz headlines as one of the genre’s most exciting artists, in high demand across the globe. His productions including ‘Only You’, ‘High Note’ and last year’s banger ‘Vino Bandit’ have seen his stock rise even higher. Serum is ⅓ of Kings Of The Rollers and knows how to get a crowd jumping. He’ll be dropping his summer anthem ‘Spray Tan’ for the MADE massive. DJ and vocalist A Little Sound is carving her own lane in D&B and going from strength to strength. She lands at MADE as part of a packed summer schedule. Drum & bass legends Dillinja and Randall step up for a special MADE 10th Anniversary B2B set, while rising star Kara shows she deserves her Drum & Bass Award for Best Female Producer.

The 02:31 Stage sees another very special B2B, this time between the mighty Holy Goof and TS7. Expect major sonic fireworks. Skepsis performs, continuing his rise after slamming into the UK charts with ‘Rave Out’ and ‘Green And Gold’. This stage is guaranteed to be jumping as DJ Q, Girls Next Door, and Burga Boy all line up for turntable duty.

A real treat is the House Of Legends & Thirty Present Fish Tales Stage where some bonafide legends of the scene are ready to showcase their skills. Bringing the positive vibes from TikTok, Fish56Octagon plays alongside hard dance pioneer Fergie for a world exclusive back to back set. Very special guest Jaguar Skills brings his ‘tribute to The Prodigy’ set to MADE – this one should not be missed. When Utah Saints step up to the decks the crowds know that something good is going to happen. Plump DJs land at MADE with their unique brand of beats and breaks mixing old school with the new.

There’s plenty more jungle and D&B as RCE Presents 10 Years Of Jungle Cakes. Headlining this stage is the one and only General Levy who never disappoints. Another highlight is the 10 year B2B special – Deekline B2B Ed Solo B2B Benny Page. This trio guarantees the highest quality tune selection. Special guest Bryan Gee will dig deep into his coveted record collection to drop a massive jungle set.

MADE Festival continues to heavily support local promoters and talent, providing opportunities for stage takeovers and connections to local clubbers. The 10th edition of MADE sees a range of styles and genres with something to get everyone dancing. The 2Tekky x Serious Selectas Stage brings a host of UKG, wobbling basslines, and breakbeat NRG. There’s a mix of house, tech, and minimal goodness at the CNTRL x ESVDRA x SHUBZ Stage, while the RE:CORD x Discotech Stage takes an underground trip into house. Duck DnB x Selecta bring some scorching drum & bass with a selection of up and coming local stars.

Digbeth Dining Club are on hand to ensure a quality selection of delicious food options from local traders, and expect some seriously talented graffiti artists from the region to be on hand to create art live throughout the day.

MADE Festival knows better than anyone how to make the most of The Digbeth Triangle’s unique mix of outdoor and indoor spaces. From midday through to 11pm, the whole area will be alive with music, arts and the sound of people having a good time. MADE Festival turns 10 and everything is ready for the celebration of a decade

When it was announced that Critical Music were going to be taking over Printworks for their 20th anniversary, I couldn’t quite believe it. Founded by Kasra in 2002, Critical have grown from strength to strength cementing their place as one of the most highly-regarded labels in Drum & Bass. I couldn’t think of a venue more suited to celebrating this monumental achievement for Kasra and the label. We’re talking dark, stripped back Drum & Bass, chunky breaks and growling basslines in London’s darkest, industrial setting. It couldn’t be more perfect and that’s before we’ve even discussed the outrageous lineup that they were bringing to the table. Known for bringing through an abundance of fresh talent and Drum & Bass veterans, it was clear that Critical were taking no prisoners for their 20th anniversary. Packing out the Press Halls with the likes of Breakage, Particle, Bladerunner, Serum, Kasra, Mefjus, Enei, Skeptical and the Ink Wells with a whole host of up and comers including; En:vy, Waeys, Klinical, Buunshin and many more.

I arrived at the mighty Printworks for 2pm and headed straight for the Press Halls to find Bladerunner in control. The Press Halls was the darkest I had seen it, minimal lighting, perfect for a Critical takeover and Bladerunner was getting straight into business. Playing a serious selection of hard-hitting rollers filled with ruthless growls and thumping 808s, Bladerunner was bringing the energy early on in the day with tracks such as his own ‘Bladerunner – Lick Shot’.

Up next in the Press Halls was someone who’s hot on everyone’s tongues, Particle. He’d been teasing a bunch of unreleased music on Instagram during the week and boy did he deliver on the day. With potentially one of the standout moments of the event, Particle dropped a seriously hefty double drop of ‘Shy FX – Roll The Dice (Ft. Stamina & Lily Allen)’ and his newly released ‘Particle – That Hz’. A double that came out of nowhere and absolutely blew the roof off of Printworks. The gnarly synth and stripped back drums of ‘That Hz’ paired with the well-known vocal from ‘Roll The Dice’…It really was pretty special.

After a small sit-down and some smoking area shenanigans, we got straight back into the action with Skeptical back to back with Breakage, hosted by SP:MC. Taking it up a notch, we were graced with two veterans of the scene. Serving up a broad selection of tasty minimal, liquid and jungle breaks, the duo in control were giving everyone a lesson in Drum & Bass. Dropping tracks such as Skeptical’s recent remix, ‘Noisia – Diplodocus (Skeptical Remix)’ and one that everyone was singing along to, ’Alix Perez, DLR, SP:MC – Keep Up’.

Staying on the same vibe, Halogenix was next on the decks. A man who’s been making waves for as long as I can remember and someone who was at the very top of my list for sets to see on the day. You can always expect liquid vibes when Halogenix is in control and that’s exactly what we got during his set, switching it up every now and then with some outrageously big hitters. Playing a bunch of his own material such as his recent remix of Unglued’s ‘Way Back When’ and his edit of ‘GIVEON – Favourite Mistake’, the vibes were unmatched. Now it wouldn’t be a Critical anniversary without Halogenix giving his Dragonforce EP an honoured spin. The place went nuts when he dropped ‘Halogenix – Independent’, a track which still gets rinsed to this date.

It’s pretty obvious that Printworks is no sprint and with that said after another short sit down, we had found ourselves at what I’d call the main event. The head honcho, Kasra had stepped up to deliver what I can imagine was the most emotional set of his career. The Press Halls were reduced to complete darkness apart from the light of everyone’s mobile phones. The buildup was dark and atmospheric and had everyone eager for the drop. Kasra dropped straight into a ridiculously steppy track which was met with a huge roar from the crowd. The pace, the vibe it was everything that screamed Critical and who better to deliver it than Kasra. Dropping a whole load of unheard tracks from their upcoming anniversary album such as ‘En:vy – Over You’ and ‘Enei – Omega (Ft. Jakes)’, it was absolutely phenomenal. Kasra was taking us on a journey, paying respect to early Critical releases and shining a light on the exciting new music to come.

Unfortunately for us, the next set of the night was the final one but we were in the safe hands of Enei. Another heavyweight who’s been at the top of his game for years now, it’s almost as if with every release he’s just getting better and better, darker and darker and has gifted us with some of the biggest tracks in recent years. Enei had turned up in true Critical style, showcasing a whole host of tracks filled with aggressive synths and chunky percussive drums. Track after track, screwface after screwface, Enei was dropping some absolute stinkers such as ‘Enei – The Greatest Trick’ and one of his recent collaborations with Kasra ‘Take A Dive (Ft. T-Man), the set was filled with energy and was the perfect set for us to close up the night.

11 hours straight of dark Drum & Bass in honour of Critical Music? Yep, we weren’t dreaming it actually happened and it was outrageous. Hats off to all the Critical Music crew, Kasra for an insane achievement and all the DJs involved on the day. It really was one for the memory books.

Did you miss out on this monumental event? Fear not, Critical will be carrying on the celebrations and taking over Phonox every Friday in May! More info and tickets here

Current Value stands out as one of the producers at the very forefront of experimental Drum & Bass. He is a creator truly reaching the top of his game and one who has walked an unmistakable path across the Drum & Bass landscape. He has consistently delivered a style so unique that it sets him far ahead of the pack, evident in both his unmatched experimentations in synthesis and his trademark finely crafted percussion which is as evident in both his heavy but stripped down sound of today as well as the relentless amen barrages of the past.

From beginnings that included extensive training in classical piano and SAE qualification, Current Value has made it his life’s work to consistently evolve and explore new possibilities in both sound design and arrangement. His long career has seen him working with Bjork and remixing her as part of her ‘Biophilia’ LP, remixing Noisia and Foreign Beggar’s track ‘SOUL PURGE’ for Mau5trap and having his tracks dropped by Aphex Twin. He has established himself as one of the most consistent and essential voices of harder, more experimental forms of Drum & Bass – being a core part of the heavier end for many years and releasing countless records on labels such as Position Chrome and Freak Recordings, as well as being a figurehead in the past for Therapy Sessions.

Now he is releasing his ‘PUER’ LP on award winning label Souped Up Records which is run by Serum and Benny V. Dropping on 3rd October Current Value has collaborated on a number of tracks with T>I, Coppa, Bou, Levela and Serum.

If you haven’t been living under a rock you will by now be very aware of Kings Of The Rollers! Leaders of the new generation and purveyors of dancefloor chaos Serum, Voltage and Bladerunner return to the frontline of drum & bass with their debut, self-titled album ‘Kings Of The Rollers’.

We first encountered KOTR at Hospitality In The Park 2017. We stumbled into their set midway and immediately started bouncing (Editor isn’t even a massive fan of dnb but he was going for it!) Since then we’ve seen them once more and again the energy was another level. Not just from the guys but their fans do not hold back!

These guys have really been setting the scene on fire over the past year or so and their new ‘Royal Rumble’ tour kicked off last month at Studio 338 and will see them perform all over the country. Despite a hectic schedule of parties, festivals, family life and their solo careers they’ve also managed to push out an album.

‘I think a great moment in the album was when I was scrolling through my Instagram and Lydia Plain came up as a sponsored ad ! I’m really jealous of people who can play the piano so sat there and listened to her and I was blown away … vocals and piano playing were so different and so much feeling , I knew we had to have her on the album – this resulted in “the sky is falling” which is so dark and haunting due to Lydia’s performance! – Voltage

The general way the tracks worked was that one of us would make a start on a track and then we’d get together in sessions at my studio to finish them. I was also in control of cooking the curry and BBQ and selecting appropriate Belgian beers to fit the mood. We wanted a new direction for this project so it wasn’t just the same as listening to our solo material or us working together as duos and what we ended up with was something more cinematic. We also had to steer clear of sampling which we do a lot in our other projects so that meant we had to buy more hardware (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!). One thing I learned was not to have a baby in the middle of an album when you’ve got a stretching deadline. – Serum

We had a good laugh in the studio while making the album, it’s important to help the ideas keep flowing.

One of us will be making some crazy noises to the others ‘usually me’ trying to get them to understand what bass sound or noise I want them to make, like Bowwowwow Meeeeeewwwwnnn! – Bladerunner

‘Kings Of The Rollers’ LP landed on Hospital Records on 26th April. Filled with a massive 17 tracks including up-front rollers, experimental and techy 2-step beats and pure knockout bangers!

Check out our premiere of ‘Mammoth’ below and buy the album here

With Manchester’s thriving Drum and Bass scene, it’s hard to set yourself out from the rest; but through sheer grit and determination; and not to mention hosting some of the city’s biggest parties for the last 15 years, Metropolis has really shone through. And it’s for this, we returned to The Warehouse Project to see what all the fuss is about.

Stepping beneath those arches for the third week in a row is not for the faint-hearted. But when roster’s like tonight present themselves you’ve really got to put the effort in. RAM Records Co-Founder Andy C was leading up the helm and with this, there was little in the way of it being a night to remember. Also on board was Liquid sensation Danny Byrd, fresh off the back of an amazing album; Neuro favourites Noisia we’re set to perform an out of this world set and the legendary jump up stalwarts of Hype & Hazard were on hand with everything jump-up and jungle. Bolstering the proceedings were Goldie, Barely Legal and Toddla T, with every sign pointing to tonight being an absolute scorcher.

After yet another swift entry we arrived not long after North Base had finished a B2B with one of Data Transmission’s favourites Mollie Collins. Jumping straight in Danny Byrd provided an excellent start to the evening smashing through an array of the best liquid, featuring a number of tracks from his recent “Atomic Funk EP” on Hospital Records; but the showcase tune came from non-other than Chase & Status’ “Retreat2018”. The savage snares and it’s 90’s rave infused build-up really brought the energy; the crowd was clearly loving it.

Next up to the plate was Noisia. Having seen them play twice already this year I had pretty high expectations from the Dutch guys; unfortunately, this wasn’t really met tonight. Following such an upbeat set from Danny Byrd, the crowd was clearly ready for a serious throwdown but Noisia started the set with some really dark half-step kinda business, which despite being surprisingly good; it wasn’t the time or the place for it and the room cleared out pretty quickly. We took this opportunity to grab some more beers and check out some of the other rooms.

In Room 2, crowd favourite Barely Legal was keeping everyone bouncing with her unusual style of mashing up everything you can imagine, providing a much needed boost after the main room. After sticking around for a bit we soon wandered off to Room 3 which was being hosted by a group of Manchester’s best. Mark XTC and Prophecy were laying it down, and with a roster featuring the likes of G13 Records boss men Propz and Rowney and Nikki Euphonique, this room was set to be a blast.

Not one to give up so easily, we decided to give Noisia a second chance. When we got back to the Main room, it was clear they’d took the hint as the pace had quickened a lot and the crowd was a lot more vibrant; with tunes such as Spectrasoul’s already iconic ‘Untitled Horn’ firing through the acoustic arches, it was a sensational change. Closely matched with that was them closing with the huge “Tentacles” from their Outer Edges album, and with that, I could safely say that they had rectified my expectations, and once again delivered.

Next up, the master himself, Andy C.

Anyone who has ever seen him play will know that the experience is nothing short of a spectacle, with this occasion being no exception. Multiple decks, double drops around every corner and an exceptional tune selection, the crowd was going crazy. This was especially true when he dropped the seminal “Valley of the Shadows” and everyone got goosebumps; a tune which is clearly still having the same effect today as it was when it released back in 1993.

Stepping out of the carnage for a breather we went over to see my favourite MC, DRS who was on hosting duties for Toddla T. Playing an enticing set of upbeat garage and dancehall vibes it was hard not to find yourself bobbing around with a massive grin on your face, and with the likes of “Flowers” by Sweet Female Attitude being dropped, it was hard to pull myself away and I was in dire need of another beer!

With more amazing showmanship from Andy C upon our return, we continued to dance away in eager anticipation of Serum & Voltage. Keeping it dark and dirty was clearly their primary objective with this set. Hosted by Carasel MC (who had previously been playing with Danny Byrd) this was definitely the highlight of my evening. With the hot-off-the-press “Stabs” by Jubei sending shockwaves of filth through the night, it was no surprise that one of Warehouse’s worst features presented itself.

Due to the arches, sweat seems to condense and drip down when things get serious and this was one of those moments, but it was nothing to the crowd who just kept skanking.

Hazard and Hype were closing the night’s affairs and they sure kept the party going. It was all too much for us, and despite classic tunes wanting us to stay we decided to make a run for the exit and out into Manchester. However, the faithful sounds of “Killers Don’t Die” pulled us back for one last boogie and with that, we were out of there.

One week under the Croatian sun celebrating all things bass is probably the vaguest description of what was an absolutely unforgettable experience. It’s nearly impossible to transcribe the sheer excellence that was Outlook Festival but we thought it would be a shame to not let you in on the business that went down over in the Fort Punta Christo. Four days and five nights packed out with some of the biggest names in bass music, an absolute heaven for the bass heads.

Thursday 6th September

We kicked things off on Thursday morning with the Exit Records boat party. Three hours of steppers, hard-hitters and vibes under the sun. With a stellar line-up of dBRIDGE, Skeptical, Fixate and SP.MC, it was set to be a large one and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The Exit Records boys truly knew how to get things going in style by dropping tracks like ‘Zed Bias – Pick Up The Pieces (Ft. Boudah) (Skeptical Remix)’ and ‘LSB – Potshot’. Some serious stompers matched by a ridiculous set of rigs. It was pretty safe to say that if Outlook were able to get such a heavy sound system on a boat, we were in for a mad one on land. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to get things going for the week ahead.

Moving on into the evening, we started over at The Void for the Crucast showcase. Picking up a serious reputation in the bassline scene, the Crucast boys are going from strength to strength and we can’t see them stopping anytime soon. With the combination of Skepsis, Notion, Darkzy, Mr Virgo and a lethal sound set up, the anticipation for the first proper night of the festival was at a serious high. What more could you want? The Crucast boys went in, shelling out some proper hitters, crowd favourites and a bunch of unreleased bits. One standout track of the showcase has got to be an unreleased one from Skepsis entitled, ‘Skepsis – Hold It Down (Ft. Bru-C)’. This one’s been going off in the raves recently and certainly didn’t disappoint on that Void sound system. Sharp vocals from Bru-C and a drop heavy enough to make anyone pull a screw face. The Crucast boys have a tendency of finishing off sets with some Drum and Bass and what better way to do it then by dropping unreleased tracks like ‘Bru-C – Wagwarn (Kanine Remix)’ and ‘Simula – The End’. Setting the levels for the rest of the festival, the Crucast boys really smashed it.

Friday 7th September

The first day of the festival flew past and before we knew it, it was time for day two. Thankfully by the time the evening of the Friday had come around, the weather had sorted it’s self out and set the stage for another evening of bass-infused raving. With a hefty line-up, The Garden stage was the place to be and that’s exactly where we kicked things off. Jungle don Jumpin Jack Frost was in control and literally had the place jumping from front to back. An hour of pure energy and pace to get everyone in the mood. Heavyweight after heavyweight, the night was shooting past and we were already into the early hours of the Saturday morning and Drum and Bass pioneer DJ Marky was deep in the mix and blend. Dropping some absolute stinkers like ‘Break, DLR & Randall – Song and Dance’ and ‘Bredren – Slackers’, we were really in our element and Outlook Festival was exceeding all of our expectations. A night of dark, deep heavy rollers was just about to get even better as we fast-forwarded an hour to find none other than Serum who had just stepped up to the decks. Now, this was without a doubt up there with the best sets of the week. We were literally left speechless time after time during the set and couldn’t quite believe the pure energy of the set. Known as one of the true monsters in the scene and as one part of Kings Of The Rollers, Serum had taken the festival by storm. Kicking the set off with an unreleased Kings Of The Rollers track (see video below), Serum had taken it up a notch from the off. Dropping another unreleased one; ‘Tessela – Hackney Parrot (Kanine Bootleg)’, there wasn’t one person in the crowd who didn’t have their dirtiest screw face on show! The Hackney Parrot acapella met by a drop powerful enough to knock you back a step, it was clear to us that this had to be the track of the week. Featuring in a number of sets across the week, it never failed to disappoint. It really was one of those sets that if you weren’t there to see it, we genuinely feel sorry for you.

Saturday 8th September

It’s highly recommended that you pace yourself when coming to Outlook Festival and that it’s much more of a marathon rather than a sprint. Day three and we were starting to feel the effects of the past two days but that wasn’t going to stop us. The line-up for Saturday was once again too good to miss and we knew exactly where to start. It was our first time over at The Clearing and who better to show us the ropes then Noisia. Synonymous in the Drum and Bass scene for their high energy, breathtaking sets, Noisia were someone who we were extremely excited to see. One track which obviously went down well was, ‘Pendulum – Hold Your Colour (Noisia Remix)’. If the original of the track wasn’t good enough, this Noisia remix is one to get your heart racing. The atmospheric buildup was just ridiculous on The Clearing sound system and it’s not even worth talking about the weight of the drop because words just don’t do it justice. After Noisia, it was time to hurry over to The Void to catch the start of Break & DRS. Another contender for set of the week, it’s hard to comprehend the pure filth of this one but we just couldn’t leave it out. Standout tracks of the set have got to be ‘Critical Impact & Break – Creeper (Ft. Skibadee)’ and ‘Technimatic – Bristol (Break Remix VIP)’, two absolute face-melters and jaw shakers. Hats off once again to the production crews, the sound system at The Void was just incredible. Got to love it when the bass literally shudders through your body.

Switching it up a little, we headed over to The Courtyard stage for a bit of bassline. Deadbeat was in control and had everyone throwing their best skanks in true UK style. Dropping some absolute heaters like ‘Deadbeat UK – Night Kitchen’ and ‘Dr Cryptic – Get Down’. The vibe in The Courtyard was wicked, it really was a nice little switch up from the drum and bass heavy line-up.

Sunday 9th September

Sadly, it was Sunday and this marked the last day of the festival. As tired as we were, we didn’t want it to come to an end. The final line-up for the final day had us set for another night over at The Garden. With the likes of Calibre and S.P.Y on show, it was set to be a night to remember. We kicked things off with an hour of Bcee & MC Tempza and what a way to start the last night. A vocal infused hour of fast paced drum and bass, perfect for a Sunday evening to get the vibe going. Calibre was up next and was one of the names on our watch list for the week. An easy call for the standout track of the set has got to be ‘Calibre – Addict’. One that’s been going off in sets all over the place recently, definitely one for the catalogue. Time to fast forward to the final hour of the festival and who better than S.P.Y to close up what had been a ridiculous week. Shouting this one out as the set of the week, closely followed by Serum and Break. It really was just unbelievable, drop after drop, screw face after screw face, S.P.Y had really brought the fire to The Garden. Shelling out some serious stinkers such as ‘DC Breaks – Never Stop (S.P.Y Remix)’ and ‘Nu:Logic – Strut (Ft. Other Echoes) (S.P.Y Remix)’, the energy for the final night was at an all-time high and you could tell no one wanted it to end. With some unrivalled song selection, S.P.Y closed up the festival with an emotional one, ‘Metrik – We Got It (Ft. Rothwell) (S.P.Y Remix)’. We’re pretty sure there were a few tears in people’s eyes when this one played. Hats off to S.P.Y, it was the perfect way to close up the festival.

With the closing of The Garden stage came the closing of the festival. Big ups to everyone involved it was one for the history books. Signing off Outlook Festival 2018, It was an extra-large one!

Not satisfied with throwing the biggest Drum & Bass festival in Britain, this year Hospital Records went one up and kicked off the festival season in style by hosting their very own beach festival in Croatia. Held at the Garden Resort on the beautiful shores of Tisno, this truly was an unforgettable holiday for everyone involved.

Ravers were treated to four stages across the site, boasting a seriously star-studded line-up – including headliners such as Andy C, London Elektricity, High Contrast, Camo & Krooked and an extra special B2B from Calibre & DBridge, to name just a few. If that wasn’t enough to whet the appetite, Hospital kindly threw in a whopping fifteen boat parties and three after parties.

I feel here it’s important to give mention to how spectacular the beach stage was; the Garden Resort we’re not exaggerating in describing their venue as a “real slice of paradise”. Picture this – beautifully clean turquoise water as far as the eye can see, clear blue skies and scorching sunshine, with your favourite music providing the soundtrack – what’s not to love?

Wasting no time, things started early at 12pm on the Thursday with Dexta B2B Chris Inperspective opening up the Beach Stage. The first boat party set sail at 1pm with an eclectic triple threat b2b performing for three hours, namely Med School favourite Etherwood, the incomparable Krakota and Hospital new-boy Unglued. With the boat packed out from front to back, and everyone in sight with a grin running from ear to ear, it’s safe to say this very much set the tone for the rest of the holiday.

After the boat party, we punters were faced with a tricky decision – which remained consistent throughout the holiday – which of the four stages to head to! However, with Hospital heavyweights Fred V & Grafix, Urbandawn and Danny Byrd rocking the main stage in the afternoon, I couldn’t help but find myself gravitate towards these maestros. Indeed, it was this pull from the Hospital big boys that provided a holiday highlight; when during London Elektricity’s set alongside Hospital newcomer Degs, London Elek’s son, the Secretary General himself, hopped on stage and mesmerised the crowd with his flawless rendition of the ‘Floss’ dance move.

On the beach stage, we were treated to a Med School vs Blu Mar Ten Music showdown, hosting the dulcet tones of Keeno, Blu Mar Ten and crowd favourite Whiney – who whipped the ravers into a frenzy with an assault of brand new unreleased music.

A trip back to the main stage for the remainder of the night capped off a perfect first day, listening to the sounds of the one and only S.P.Y shelling down with his new Dubplate Style tunes, alongside certified hurters such as “Alone In The Dark”.

On Friday Critical Sound took over the main stage, showcasing artists such as Foreign Concept, Kasra and Enei. During the day it was the Sun and Bass stage that lured the crowd in, offering serene liquid vibes to help nurse any hangovers from an over-excited first day. Witnessing a crowd sing-a-long to LSB’s “The View” is always a special moment, even more so when gazing out to the calm, blue water of the Adriatic Sea.

DJ Marky joined the Sun and Bass stage in the evening and played one of the most energetic sets of the festival and, of course, delivered the classic Marky move that we all know and love; impeccable scratching while holding the deck over his head. We were also lucky enough to hear Break’s monstrous remix of Dillinja – “Hard Noize”.

Spearhead took to the beach stage on Saturday. With beautiful music and settings to match, the vibe was one of relaxation during the day, people scattered across the beach sipping cold drinks and soaking up the sizzling sun. All of the sets from this day deserve a mention but a major highlight was the set from Blu Mar Ten, a perfectly rolling sunset selection from start to finish. The Law & Wheeler remix of “Titans” was particularly well received by the crowd!

The evening brought upon us the dilemma of the weekend – the choice between watching the mighty Andy C or the iconic duo of Calibre b2b DBridge.

As we’ve all come to expect from the Executioner, Andy C utterly tore the stage down with a flawless set covering every avenue of drum and bass. The brand new Chase & Status jungle dubplate ‘Retreat’ sounded phenomenal – and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one with the phrase “soundboy surrender retreat!” stuck in my head. Keep your ears peeled for that one!

After their extra special Marcus Intalex tribute set at Hospitality in the Park last summer, it came as no surprise that Hospital invited Calibre & DBridge along to the beach to supply some liquid brilliance. With SP:MC and DRS hosting, it was a memorable set from some of the most legendary artists in the game.

Sunday was a unique affair with Nu:Logic, Fred V and London Elektricity b2b Chris Goss lining up at the Magnolia stage to play their ‘influences sets’, giving the audience an insight into the records that shaped their musical tastes.

The Hospital artists returned to the main stage, and it was great to see the legendary Makoto make an appearance – who has recently moved over to the UK for the next five years, so expect to be seeing him on more Hospitality line-ups in the near future! In the evening High Contrast, Camo & Krooked and Kings of The Rollers delivered some seriously lively sets.

Which brings us to the final day, and boy it did not disappoint! An all-day mega B2B2B2B2B2B2B set with B-Complex, Logistics, London Elektricity, Nu: Tone, Unglued, Serum and Voltage. Wow. With unexpected selections and rewinds a-plenty, this was an extraordinary set, to say the least.

The Hospital Records staff were rewarded for their incredible efforts with this festival, taking over the beach stage for a giant b2b between the office DJ’s, then setting sail for their very own boat party. Shouts to Ed Priest for playing that world ending apocalyptic tune. I’m 99.9% sure that the epic thunderstorm that ensued was summoned as a result of this track being played out at sea.

Unfortunately, this colossal thunderstorm resulted in the boat party heading back early and Benny L being unable to play his set. Would’ve been apt if he opened with his new release entitled “Thunder Slap”! In fact, he had an older release called “Thunder” too. Perhaps avoid writing a tune called Earthquake or Tsunami, Benny!

The crowds were soaked in the storm, but it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits with chants of “F*** the rain” echoing through the festival and, allegedly, a small after party took place in the restaurant while people took shelter.

This festival was a one of a kind experience, bringing ravers together in an intimate setting showcasing some of the finest talent that Drum & Bass has to offer. It was a special week that will undoubtedly remain in people’s memories for a long time to come. Hospital Records, salutes to each and every one of you for putting on such an incredible festival. Hard to believe that was a debut appearance!

I think I speak for almost everyone in attendance when I say – bring on Hospitality on the Beach 2019!

The prospect of raving in an abandoned fort is quite something of the imagination. Wrong. It’s a reality and it is taking place in its usual location, Fort Punta Christo. Held just outside the city of Pula, Croatia, Outlook Festival is back 5th – 9th September for another celebration of sound system culture. Spreading over four days and four nights, the Adriatic coast will once again see itself packed with ravers for what is set to be another stellar year.

One of the most beautiful fortifications of Pula, Fort Punta Christo was built at the end of the 19th century by the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy to defend the city of Pula. Fast forward some years and it has become the host of one of Europe’s leading festivals. Outlook Festival is the place to be, there’s something for everyone. Boat parties, beach parties, some incredible stages and let’s not forget the grand opening concert which takes place in Pula’s 2000-year-old amphitheatre. All of these things along with an absolutely ridiculous line-up add up to create a truly unforgettable experience. The line-up consists of some of the biggest names in the bass and grime scene such as; Andy C, J Hus, Noisia, AJ Tracey, Goldie, Shy FX, MJ Cole, DJ Marky, Calibre & DRS, DJ Hype & Eskman, Break, S.P.Y, Crucast (Darkzy, Skepsis, Notion, Mr Virgo, Bru-C, Lazcru), Bryan Gee, Serum and the list goes on and on and on.

Outlook is one for the bucket list, don’t sleep on it, get involved.
