After a massive set at Rampage this summer, Belgian Drum & Bass maestro Basstripper has officially dropped his crowd-favourite banger, ‘Time To Go.’ This track has already been shaking sound systems around the globe all year and is quickly becoming a staple in the scene.

Basstripper, known off-stage as Jeroen Stevens, has been steadily climbing the ranks in the Drum & Bass world. Hailing from Leuven, Belgium, he’s made a name for himself with his relentless energy and cutting-edge productions. Basstripper initially started as a DJ, honing his craft in the underground scenes of Belgium, before stepping into production, where he truly began to shine.

‘Time To Go’ is a prime example of Basstripper’s signature style, blending unique soundscapes with powerful basslines that hit hard. It’s no wonder this track has gained so much support—it follows in the footsteps of his previous hits, like last summer’s viral sensation, ‘In The City’, which solidified him as a key player in the contemporary bass music scene.

Basstripper’s rise hasn’t been by chance. His dedication to the craft is evident in every release, and his relentless work ethic has led him to collaborate with some of the biggest names in the industry. Over the years, he’s shared the stage with heavyweights like Andy C, Wilkinson, and Sub Focus, and his sets are known for their high energy and seamless mixing, often leaving crowds in awe.

Basstripper’s been on a roll, supporting big names like Bou and B-Live during their Australian tour last November. He’s also been flexing his remix skills, reworking Netsky’s ‘Hell in High Heels’ at the end of 2023, and more recently, dropping a remix of Friction’s ‘Supersonic’ this January. His DNB Allstars release, ‘Hazmat / Deserted,’ is still making waves on the DJ circuit, further proving his ability to craft tracks that are in high demand.

Beyond his work behind the decks and in the studio, Basstripper is also deeply connected to the community. He’s been an advocate for the local scene in Belgium, often mentoring up-and-coming producers and DJs, helping to foster the next generation of talent.

‘Time To Go’ perfectly encapsulates Basstripper’s fresh, lively sound, featuring drilling basslines, crisp snares, and tight drum programming. The track’s powerful breaks and twisted synths are engineered for maximum dancefloor impact, while the edgy vocals add just the right amount of attitude.

With this latest release, Basstripper continues to push boundaries, and it’s clear he’s just getting started. Expect more fire from him in the near future—this is only the beginning. Keep an eye out for his upcoming projects, as he’s set to leave an even bigger mark on the global drum and bass landscape.

You may remember we recently premiered ‘Compressor’ from Flowidus‘ ‘Footsteps’ EP on Elevate Records. If you don’t remember or didn’t see it you can check it out here. This dynamic duo from Australia has delivered some outstanding music in recent years. Flowidus burst onto the scene in 2016, with their debut EP on Program Records ‘From The Storm’. Since then the budding partnership has unleashed a slew of releases on labels such as Onelove, Liquicity & Good Karma Music. Last year they signed exclusively to Friction‘s Elevate Records and have been going from strength to strength.

Here Raphael and Garo tell us about 5 artists who have influenced their music and career so far.

We are always influenced by any track that has a hellish bounce/groove that makes you want to nod your head and some hearty harmony supported by a beastly bass! At the end of the day, we are making dance music and the tunes need to make you move. Something that can come from a fantastic mixdown, which we have just discovered! – Flowidus

Pendulum

No album stands out more in our minds than Hold Your Colour. As far as influence goes, the flavours and diversity of this album have played a huge roll in crafting our sound, and thats before we even mention their arsenal of other bangers. If that came out today it would be huge. At the time it was absolutely ground breaking.

Friction – Dancing

When this song came out, it was on repeat the whole day. Such an awesome song, not just a dance track but a well composed piece of music that hits all the emotional strings but uplifts you at the same time! Works really well in a set, regardless of the crowd!

The Upbeats

Raw, grungy, heavy, funky. They can gel noises and themes seamlessly keeping it fun and bouncy while walking you to the gates of hell, or at least to the corner of the club where you can happily do your dirtiest bass face free of judgement. After listening to them for years they have always stayed true to their sound.

Dimension

All of Robs tunes are fantastic. We are a big fan of using the tracks in sets but only really for the vocals and mixing other tunes in at the drop, just for some difference. When an artist is so popular in the scene, you hear their tunes a lot in sets, this is just our way of slightly flipping them in a set so it’s a bit different.

Shapeshifter

Over the years they have released so much incredible music. Aside from the fact that their scratched CDs were on heavy rotation in our barely roadworthy cars growing up, for us the main stand out is their live performances. Seeing multi-instrumentalist going hard in sync making live Drum n Bass through huge festival sound systems is about as pure as it gets. Check out the podcast Shapeshifter did for us here

If you haven’t already bagged yourself a copy of ‘Footsteps’ EP on Elevate Records you can get one from here

As we entered the second bank holiday weekend of the year, there was one thing more prevalent than Easter eggs on our mind. On the 21st April, the Bass Music Awards brought a giant celebration of all things bass music to the O2 Victoria warehouse in Manchester. Billed as both an awards ceremony and late night event, it was sure to draw large crowds from all over the UK.

Stepping outside of the taxi, we admired the marvel of Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse. Housing up to 5000 attendees, it was the perfect venue for the monstrous electronic line-up the Bass Music awards had in store. As we passed the strict security the venue had in place, we explored the red brick warehouse which consisted of two rooms, several bars and multiple viewing areas.

We arrived exceptionally early to see one of the most talked about artists in drum and bass today; Dimension. As he stepped up onto an unusually quiet sound system, the crowd began to get going. His masterful mixing style began to pack the main room as the ravers dribbled in from the tight security outside. By the end of his set, the room packed. Finishing with his song ‘Desire’ in collaboration with Sub Focus, the crowds sung its catchy hook word for word as the next artist Friction came alongside setting his USB’s up.

It was then that the night time atmosphere began to kick in. As former Radio 1 presenter and record label owner, Friction, tore through his new album ‘Connections’ (which also won the best album at the preceding ceremony) the crowd took it up a notch. Friction delivered a masterclass of all aspects of drum and bass, showing precision, talent and ability as he glided effortlessly through the many sub-genres that drum and bass now offers. It was a remarkable performance, leading the crowd to chant his name as his set ended.

Nevertheless, one of the most talked about performances of the night had still yet to grace the warehouse. Hailing all the way from Western Australia was bass music legends; Pendulum. Being one of the most talked about dance acts of all time; Pendulum were sure to steal the night. As they opened, the sound system seemed to suspiciously double in volume as everyone made sure they witnessed the opening. Featuring anthems like ‘Witchcraft’ and ‘Tarantula’ Pendulum played them all; with hints of neurofunk and jump up it was a set with energy at its core. As a group who don’t play sets that often, it felt like Pendulum were still at the top of their game and their DJ set at the Bass Music Awards 2019 was perfect proof.

As some acts finished we took breaks in-between to explore the venue. The exposed brickwork with original features was the perfect setting for a bass music rave. The bars were well stocked, however they employed a non-refundable token system for purchasing drinks which became tiresome and frustrating. Nevertheless, the Bass Music awards transported Victoria Warehouse into an underground metropolis of dance music showcasing some of the best in the genre and delivering and unforgettable night of performances. If you’re interested about the winners of the awards ceremony take a look below to see who won:

Industry Panel awarded:

Best Event 2018 – Rampage

The first weekend of August saw the return of Eastern Electrics to Morden Park for what was set to be another unbeatable all-dayer. Picking up quite the reputation for a “must go to” day festival, the sun was out and the stages were set for two incredible days of raving.

The line-up for both days was unrivalled, the pure abundance of heavyweight DJs had us itching with excitement. Finding the time to see everyone was a serious task but it wouldn’t be any fun if you didn’t have yourself running from stage to stage just to catch your favourite DJs! That being said, we thought it would be a great idea to share with you our top ten tracks from across the weekend. Narrowing it down to just ten was hard but nevertheless, let’s get straight into it.

Here are our: Top Ten Tracks from Eastern Electrics 2018.

Saturday:

Josh Butler – Dreamweaver

Our first track of the weekend goes to none other than the house head Josh Butler, ‘Dreamweaver’ a track from his recent EP. An absolute belter of a tune consisting of layers and layers of depth, a wicked atmosphere and a seriously bumpy melody. Synonymous for his hard-hitting basslines, Butler has seriously pulled it out of the bag with this one.

Sonny Fodera – Touch

Next up we’ve got Sonny Fodera’s track entitled ‘Touch’. Since first hearing this one a couple months back it’s got better and better the more we hear it. A proper crowd pleaser of a tune, one that makes you feel as if you’re literally rolling through the bassline when it drops. This one’s been doing the rounds at raves recently but if you haven’t heard it, you need to!

Daniel Stefanik – Deep Inside

The original version of this track by Hardrive has had its fair share of refixes, bootlegs, whatever you want to call them over the years but it’s pretty safe to say that this one’s a bit of a winner. If you’re a lover of those vibey tech house tunes that are just packed out with shakers and thumping basslines then this is the tune for you. The repetition of the vocal throughout the drop gives the track an unbelievable groove. Enough to make anyone shake a leg.

Distinkt – Assassins

Time to switch it up a little. Hitting number four on our list is ‘Assassins’ by Distinkt. Now if you’ve been keeping up with the bass scene or even dabbled into it every now and then, you will of without a doubt heard of Distinkt. Someone who’s gained incredible support from the likes of Chris Lorenzo, this track epitomises his unique style of production. Seriously heavy kick drums, vibey melodies and ridiculous bass sounds. Props to the EE guys, the sound system in ‘The Starr Of EE Pub’ was incredible and gave this tune all the credit it deserved.

The Beatles – Come Together (Jamie Jones Booty Mix)

The final track to round off Saturday goes to who else but Jamie Jones. Now, of course, I’m sure everyone has heard this one before but it was impossible to leave it out of the list. Hearing this track bounce out of the main stage as the sun was setting had the vibe in the crowd at it’s absolute best. A ridiculous take on the original tune, this track shows off everything that is Jamie Jones.

Sunday:

Kastle x Mind Of A Dragon – Keep It Tight

The first track goes out to Mind Of A Dragon who opened up the Switch Yard on Sunday. A name that’s been popping up all over the place recently, MOAD’s fresh take on UKG is refreshing as he brings his own unique flavours to the scene. This track has everything that a UKG track needs, beautiful chords, a harmonic female vocal, wicked drums and an unbelievably hefty bassline. If you don’t yet, you should keep an eye out for Mind Of A Dragon.

Benny L – Sharks

Next up we’ve got some Drum & Bass. Someone who’s been picking up a serious name for himself recently is Benny L. With an EP forthcoming on Metalheadz, there is no stopping this guy who has been tearing raves apart with his disgustingly incredible productions. Synonymous with the sound that is so sought after these days, this track shows off just a little of what Benny L is about. Hard, heavy, low roaring sounds capable of destroying any venue.

Champion – Run Dat

Time for a bit of bassline. This man needs no introduction, Champion took to the Switch Yard stage and absolutely tore it to pieces. Track after track, the crowd was electric and gave the festival an extra bit of energy under the sun. One of his recent releases, ‘Run Dat’ is serious floor smasher and credit to the build-up. The build-up is everything that is needed to get a crowd absolutely bouncing, the long snare builds and siren like melody create the perfect amount of excitement before being met by a monster of a drop. Hard enough to make anyone pull their dirtiest screw face.

Dimension – Raver

Probably one of the most liked Drum & Bass DJs at the moment, this track from Dimension shows off just what people are loving about him. His unique sound brings elements of different genres together for this absolute stomper of a tune. The gritty British vocals give off a lovely underground vibe whilst the drop just leaves you lost for words. Gun fingers were at the ready for this one and it’s clear to see why.

Fatboy Slim – Right Here Right Now (Friction & Killer Hertz Remix)

Lastly to round off this list we have Friction and Killer Hertz remix of Fatboy Slim’s classic, Right Here Right Now. The original track alone is enough to get any festival crowd pumping but throw a little bit of DnB, especially Friction DnB, into the mix and you get a wicked reaction. The energy just radiated from this track as the drop literally felt as if someone was punching you in the face, in a good way. There’s nothing better than ending a festival off with a bang and it’s safe to say Friction did just that.

And there we have it, another year gone but not forgotten. An absolutely wonderful weekend of raving under the sun. Hats off to Eastern Electrics, this year was a special one!
