NUDE155 : Orion

Share

Starting in the early nineties from the warehouse raves of the industrial city of Tampere, stirring the Northern Finland electronic music scene at the turn of the millennium, settling down in Helsinki in 2006 and living in Berlin 2011-2013, Orion is still one of the busiest and most relevant DJs in Finland.

Probably the most well-known of his over 15-year-long work on Finnish National Radio YleX, Orion hosts the channel’s three-hour Friday night every week. Next to his work as a DJ and radio host, Orion also runs his own Absence of Facts imprint and regularly releases music on top-tier labels like MORD, Mindtrip, H-Productions, Suara etc.

No matter if it’s about performing live at a sold-out festival or a warehouse party, expanding the possibilities of DJing with the latest technological innovations, hosting an electronic music conference, playing at KitKat in Berlin, Ministry of Sound in London or clubs in USA, Germany, Greenland, Russia, Spain etc, headlining New Year’s party for 85000 people, 2000 people pool party or hosting live radio broadcasts from Berlin, after over 25 years in the business it’s all still happening and it’s all labour of love.

Today, he joins the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
One hour of my current favourites and own productions aimed for a full dancefloor.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
It’s the track “Damned If I Don’t” by myself – a rolling, hypnotic track being released on Pfirter’s Mindtrip soon. It’s been proved to work well on the floors when I’ve tested it on my latest gigs.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I love keeping the mixes as funky as possible, combining new and unreleased with timeless tracks from the past. Funk is the ingredient.

Tell us about your next EP?
I’m super excited having the possibility to release a four-track EP on Pfirter’s Mindtrip. I’m a big fan of both Pfirter’s and his label’s sound and the attention to detail he’s having for the label’s releases is just phenomenal.

What have you got coming up?
There’s music coming up on Soma, IllegalAlien, InsideOut (including great Isaiah & JSPRV35 remixes which are included in the mix) and my own Absence of Facts to list a few. I’m also looking forward to late summer festival gigs as well as ADE in October.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
“Nothing can replace the uplifting feeling you get of just being there”.
-Purpose Maker ’98

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
