Renegade Riddims: Dub Ten

Share

Allow me to introduce you to Gabriel Kirchebner, the musical virtuoso known by his electrifying alias, Dub Ten. Originating from the awe-inspiring landscapes of Tyrol, Austria, Dub Ten’s musical journey was written in the stars, with a family deeply entrenched in the world of music, paving the way for his destiny in the industry.

At the tender age of 15, the heavens graced Dub Ten with the gift of Drum & Bass, igniting a passion that would become his life’s anchor. Immersed in the heart-pounding rhythms and soul-shaking basslines, he forged an unbreakable bond with the genre. Influenced by iconic artists like Serial Killaz, DJ Marky, and Calyx & TeeBee, he embarked on a profound love affair with Drum & Bass.

Unwilling to confine himself to a single style, Dub Ten’s hunger for diversity led him into the thrilling realm of jump-up artists such as Upgrade, Majistrate, and Dominator. Embracing the relentless energy and infectious grooves of jump-up, he expanded and enriched his musical palette.

Last year, Dub Ten joined forces with the esteemed Empathy collective, solidifying his position as a formidable presence in the Drum & Bass scene. As a crucial member of Empathy Audio management, he plays an instrumental role in shaping the collective’s future and contributing to its enduring legacy.

As Gabriel, aka Dub Ten, continues to push the boundaries of Drum & Bass, his unwavering dedication, boundless creativity, and unrelenting passion for music serve as a wellspring of inspiration for aspiring artists and a guiding light for the genre’s future.

Now Dub Ten joins our Renegade Riddims series, with a brand new exclusive mix! The mix contains music from the likes of himself, Ferice, Geostatic, Enei, Trex, R3IDY, Alibi, skantia, Molecular and loads more!

Sum up this mix in 10 words…

It’s a very clubby mix but you will also enjoy it on a car ride.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

My personal favourite track in this mix is an unreleased bit by convolute, favourite released track had to be dotdash & Azotix – Speed By

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

The special ingredient in this mix is our beautiful country Austria! We got so many talented producers here. I tried to showcase as many unreleased tracks from me and my friends in this mix.

Tell us about your next EP?

I just released my ‘Fallen’ EP on Empathy Audio last Friday so I tell you a bit about this one!

So I started the project in February I think. I absolutely wanted to get an MC on board so I teamed up with Austria’s most promising lyricist MC FLOW and we did the Track Black Hole which I am really happy with.

‘Get Down’ is about 2 years old, the whole idea was done in like 2 hours and then it was just somewhere on my hard drive for a year. When I showed it to George Decaz he was freaking out and wanted it to be on the EP so I finished it up and here we go!

Same goes for ‘Move My Body’ also a very old track… I thought I would never release it but George liked it so much and now we are more than happy that it’s out.

‘Haunted’ which is the only liquid track on the EP is really special to me as it formed out of a sad mood I had that day.

The title track ‘Fallen’ was really hard to finish for me, I remember I tried to get the snare right for 2 weeks and then ended up just changing up the whole drums and from that point, it flowed and I finished it within a few days.

I am really happy with the outcome of the EP and the support has been mad so far.

Big thanks to everyone at Empathy Audio for putting in the work to help me get this project out.

BIG SHOUTOUT to George Decaz, Nico Apollo and Konsi K SONIC!!!

What have you got coming up?

I am constantly working on new music to put out, my next release will be on the Empathy Audio VA which I can not tell too much about right now.

And my next EP will drop sometime in early 2024 I think.

When was the last time you actually raved?

I think it was back in March this year at the 1985 Music Labelnight in the Grelle Forelle Vienna

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Explore music! There are so many small artists and labels around in underground DnB right now. Check out labels like Empathy Audio, Transparent Audio, Yamatai Recordings, Deep Within Recordings…. there is quality everywhere!
