NUDE174: Larry Cadge

Share

Hailing from London, the veteran Larry Cadge began his career as a DJ in 1989 and expeditiously evolved into a multi-faceted rhythmic architect taking influence from his musically entrenched family which includes his mother, the pianist.

His techy edge, addictive ballads, and immensely funk induced cadence are designed for the dance floor.

Larry’s old-skool disco-house feel can be attributed to authoritative figures in the world of music who he looks to for guidance such as Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Manuel Göttsching in addition to his mother and musically gifted family.

In 2010 Larry founded Smiley Fingers, an independent House and Techno records label, based in London but operating on a global level. Larry’s fine taste for A&R has contributed to build the label reputation realising with talented artists like KlangKuenstler, Ray Okpara, Basti Grub, Gunnar Stiller, Rick Sanders, Tapesh, Pezzner, Hauswerks and many others, delivering more than 250 releases.

He’s no newbie to this game and is a popular selection for those in the know. Ingrained in Techno, but free from limitations in influences from across the board, his sound is distinctive, fresh and does the job on the dance floor every time.

Today, he joins the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
The techno music I usually play in clubs, driving, groovy, modular!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
“March Spirit” by Uvall, this Georgian producer is a part of Tiblisi’s flourishing underground scene… Be careful, you can’t easy get his synth loop out of your brain ;-D

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The mixing. All set was recorded live in the studio, so as not to lose creativity, the progression between tracks and the danceability.

Tell us about your next release?
I’ve almost finished my second album, that combines Detroit classics and modular elements, to express my personal vision of techno. I tried to be integral without caring what others think.

What have you got coming up?
To promote the album, I’ll be doing a short tour around Latin America then head towards Europe and Asia.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Thanks for listening to this mix and remember: “If it’s going to make you happy, then go for it, fife is short  and time just flies by”.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
