NUDE183: Monaco

Share

Monaco’s dynamic warehouse aesthetic blends production styles from the UK to Detroit techno. Holding down a residency on Rinse FM, the Irish producer / DJ pushes the needle with groove-driven rhythms.

His releases have garnered support from the likes of Chloè Caillet, Skream, Groove Armada and TSHA. Alongside BBC Radio1’s Sarah Story and Jaguar propelling the sound across the airwaves and voicing their iconic co-signs.

Monaco stays active on the label front with releases on Cocoon Recordings, Southern Fried Records and his latest EP ‘Techno Romance ’landing on Hot Haus Recs earlier this year. Tourdates with Fatboy Slim, and Pete Tong and a presence in both London and Paris have begun etching Monaco’s stamp swiftly onto the circuit.

Today, he joins the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
One for the heads with pure groove and sprinkles of acid.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
I’m rating the new record from DJ Tennis & Luke Alessi ‘Dale Dale’ so highly! Honestly, it sets the tone for a rave when the sun has gone down and the freaks come out, my kinda timing.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
‘Parecé’ for sure marks a switch up in the vibe, hang tight for a bit of reggaeton with a dash of grime ;)))

Tell us about your latest EP?
‘Techno Romance’ EP on Hot Haus Recs is a reflection of the melodic styles which I’ve always wanted to bring forward as an artist. I’m massively inspired by the hypnotic leads you’ll hear in early Detroit techno records. It was also a brilliant opportunity to work with the team at UTTU, their output for high quality underground sounds is truly mind blowing!

What have you got coming up?
Right now I’m finishing the next releases, I’ve pushed hard to be more collaborative with artists and vocalists in the next phase of Monaco productions which is very challenging but when you find a special connection with another artist. The energy starts to form, you find your music can take on a whole new life of its own. The other night I was in the studio with a US artist and UK rap producer and the vibe in the room was so uplifting and helps broaden your creative process so much.

On the show front, I’m heading back to Ireland to play Electric Picnic on Aug 17th. I’ve been getting my head in the game for it, and the podcast for DT/NUDE is a little warmup for kick off. I’m playing a rave in the woods on Saturday night at 2am, expecting wild scenes with the Irish crowd as always.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Find your groove, evolve your art and keep pushing yourself!

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
