This week’s mix comes from the one and only Simon Field, who’s bringing the Oslo underground straight to your ears with a set inspired by his latest album, Panda. Known for his deep, techy vocal house vibes, Field has long been a fixture in the electronic music scene, amassing over 350 million streams and making waves on labels like Armada, Universal Music, and his own Basement Records.
With Panda dropping on August 16, Field invites us into a sonic world where classic Chicago house grooves blend seamlessly with the edgy pulse of Oslo’s club scene. Each track on the album has been meticulously tested in the underground venues Field loves, ensuring that every beat resonates on the dancefloor. The nine-track album, including collaborations with artists like Delphi Drive and Blichfeldt, captures Field’s knack for creating music that’s as immersive as it is danceable.
In this exclusive mix, Field dives into Panda’s core – the raw, unfiltered energy of house music. This set channels the ethos of Oslo’s legendary clubs like Skagum, Jæger, and Natt, where Field regularly holds down residencies. So, turn it up and let Simon Field’s mix take you on a journey through Oslo’s finest underground beats.
Today, he joins us on the podcast for the first time. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here.
Describe this mix in 10 words…
Deep pre-party – live with friends in the studio mix.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Tough one – I have to go with One More Time (for the Panda). It has this perfect balance of deep, driving energy and a melody that sticks with you long after the set. Every time I play it, it creates this special moment, and it really captures the vibe I was aiming for.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I had a few friends over at the studio on the weekend. I knew I had to do this mix for Datatransmission to get it done in time. So I basically gave them the option to go home or stay and I would play and record the mix live with them there. So they went for the last option. So my friends are my main ingredients. To be honest, that is what they always are. As the mix is live and after a few drinks, it has its charm.
Tell us about your next release
I have a bunch of candidates, to be honest. I really dig into what I did with “F With the Energy” on the album. I will be travelling a lot moving forward to do collaborations which is really rewarding working with other producers but also rappers, singers and more. Expect some unexpected releases!
What have you got coming up?
Besides new music releases, I’m planning more Basement Sessions with my partner Blichfeldt. We are planning sessions in other cities around the world. The club concept seems to resonate really well across the globe having a strong presence on YouTube.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Been a big fan of Data Transmission for many years. Keep supporting this amazing ecosystem and you will in turn support yourself.
