DT839 – Eskuche

Share

Since his debut a decade ago, Miami-based Eskuche has created a legacy that stretches across house music’s most distinguished taste-making imprints and fabled stages. Effortlessly capturing the ephemeral qualities of Miami, New York, and Ibiza (all cities he’s called home), his sound drips with slippery percussion and raw soul-snatching basslines.

With a catalogue deep enough to easily rock an open-to-close set, Eskuche has, throughout his career, expressed a diverse and dynamic sonic palate. A true favourite of the underground elite, his supporters are just as varied as his sound design, including everyone from Maya Jane Coles to Four Tet, Jamie Jones to Sasha, Green Velvet to Marco Carola, and Roger Sanchez to Gorgon City—who in 2022 released “Turn The Lights” on their label REALM, spending a month in the Beatport Top 100.

While he formulated the foundation for his craft on a pair of 1200s as a teenager, it wasn’t until he moved to New York and experienced late nights at venues like Pacha NYC and Output that his love for dance music truly took hold. His style-defining solo debut, “Into It,” received heavy support from techno titan Marco Corola. Several years of marathon releases on labels like Repopulate Mars, Nervous, and Hot Creations followed.

His 2018 release for the latter, “Activator,” had long been a sought-after ID for Jamie Jones. Upon release, it hit the Beatport overall top 5 and held strong in the top 10 for several weeks pushing Eskuche’s trademark rough-and-tumble tech house sound into the upper echelons of dance music. In 2019 he hit it big yet again with the release of “Passion” on Hannah Wants’ Etiquette imprint. He yet again proved that his singular sound was compelling and unforgettable. “Passion” spent two months in the Beatport top 100 (and still peeks its way back into the charts regularly) and scored support from Gorgon City, James Hype, Floating Points, Mark Knight, Sasha, and Four Tet who still keeps the track in heavy rotation and dropped it during the historic B3B at Madison Square Garden with Skrillex and Fred again..

Perhaps Eskuche’s urge to experience new locales (and avoid the cold) has led to some of his growth. It was in Ibiza where his sound truly catalyzed. His breakthrough hit “Concentrate” was written there. Released within days of sending the demo to Green Velvet’s Relief Records, it boldly declared his trendsetting capabilities. It also formed the foundation for a lasting relationship with the green mohawked legend, leading to Eskuche becoming a permanent fixture on La La Land lineups worldwide.

Consistently motivated by the changing face of house music, Eskuche’s rolling basslines and acid-tech aesthetic are beginning to give way to even broader, sometimes more melodic proclivities. The artist’s aim to further push the underground led to the foundation of his new label Passion—taking its name from his hit record—where he hopes to add more fuel to his already breakneck release schedule and find new ways to pay forward the immense support he’s received from industry peers.

Today, he joins the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.
