GruuvElement’s – Essential [Clarisse Records]

Share

For the last 100+ releases, Clarisse has always brought essential new dance music to the world stage, and their latest release is no exception as, from a London base, GruuvElement’s & Cotoraci bring another vital two-tracker.

The work of the UK’s GruuvElement’s has been recognised as the real deal by Joseph Capriati, Steve Lawler, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna and Derrick May, further dropping dancefloor knowledge on an abundance of in-demand labels including Solid Groove Raw, Deeperfect, Viva Music and Bamboleo to name a few.

Bucharest-to-London mover Cotoraci, a star name on his local scene and co-founder of Romania’s Opak Records, is nice on the mic as well on the decks, recently sharing billing with Clean Bandit, Don Diablo, Sigala and Tiesto at Bucharest’s recent Saga Festival.

When GruuvElement’s says ‘Essential’, he means the basics for getting you from the club’s A to B. Clipped horns and a female stammer with the funk on the tip of her tongue, are the key players to a very rhythmic march playing a game of dancefloor cat and mouse. With minimal deviation but with plenty to get muscles twitching – the tumbling bass loop and push-n-pull percussion see to that – ‘Essential’ keeps its cool when a flatulent synth note sporadically emerges as a joker in the pack.

GruuvElement’s and Cotoraci get together for the distinctive chill of ‘Albajam’, an ambient drifter placed on a calming bongo-palmed beach groove, and filled with acid squiggles and sonar signals blinking in and out of the mix. All perfectly weighted and waiting for the dancefloor-aimed kick drum to come in, it maintains an air of peace, calm and good nature, welcoming everyone to rave by campfire with a weightless bounce vibing from outer space.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
